it's because she's scared of losing you just like you're scared of losing her, and if she was going to lose you i think she'd rather just get it over with quick like ripping off a band-aid.
MIKE AND WILL VAN SCENE
This whole dialogue from Will (in the van scene of Stranger Things S4) was actually so layered and smart.
Through EL He says he's scared of losing Mike, and if he's going to lose him, he'd rather rip off the band aid quickly instead of dragging out the pain. On the surface, this is Will comforting Mike.
But He's projecting his feelings onto El to mask the fact that he's really talking about himself. The rip off the band aid metaphor is him indirectly voicing his own heartbreak. that it would be less painful to just face the loss quickly than to live in constant fear of it.
Ripping a band-aid off quickly = hurts a lot in the moment, but it's over fast
Taking it off slowly drags out the pain (which is the duffer brother actually doing ). If they want they can give Will another partner in season 3 even in season 4 but they didn't cause they don't want to.
If someone is going to lose someone they love (like Will losing Mike), it's less painful to face it all at once instead of living in constant fear of it happening.
WILL Better choose to get hurt quickly than to suffer slowly. he accepting the fact that he can't have mike.
It shows how Will views love and loss he's so scared of rejection that he'd almost prefer to just be hurt immediately, rather than hold onto hope and prolong the heartbreak.
(Yeah prolong the heartbreak that what duffer brothers actually did they dragged will feelings to season 4 instead of ripping off the bandage and we all know that only means one thing)
MIKE AND WILL MONOLOGUE SCENE SEASON 2
Do you remember the first day that we met?
I sked you to be my friend You said yes, You said yes. It was the best thing that I ever did.
This is one of the most emotional moment between Mike and Will for me atleast.
He's literally saying: Our friendship is the most important thing in my life. You're my best friend. Please come back to me.
It's not just about reminding Will of their bond it's Mike's way of telling Will how much he means to him.
It also mirrors Season 4 heart to heart talk between him and will.
I Don't know' maybe I feel like i lost you or something.
than later again he said the same line again through EL in monologue (which actually meant to be for will)
His fear of losing Will again is haunting him again.
Season 4 monologue foreshadows the van scene and season 2 monologue scene somehow. It was mike way of indirectly replying to will van conversation.
(sorry it just a long rant about me being wierd also not a native English speaker so sorry for any grammatical mistakes 💔)
