I don't know what other people are saying so I'm not actually sure this is unpopular, but Anakin is a canonical fascist sympathizer turned fascist. Yes, he's eventually reformed, and Yes his extreme beliefs are born from trauma and being abandoned to slavery on the outer rim and mistrust towards the government that allowed it, but that doesn't make it any less canon. You can be anti-government and anti-institution in many ways and Anakin approaches this mindset from a pro-fascist lens, TEXTUALLY.
He's not like "give the power back to the people" he's like "give the power to someone who can control the people." His history of powerlessness manifests as a desire to wield power, not to challenge or interrogate power structures. Buddy boy falls for the biggest fascist dictator propaganda campaign ever and becomes Palpatine's rabid lap dog. He murders civilians disenfranchised and neglected by the same government on the same planet where he was disenfranchised and neglected as a child. Anakin is a space right-wing extremist. He becomes the literal figurehead of power for the fucking EMPIRE, NOT ON ACCIDENT. He's one of those little boys who gets radicalized online by Jordan Peterson. Many of those little boys are victims of the system, too. Doesn't make them any less right wing or extreme!!

There’s that indescribable thing about watching the fight scene in Revenge of the Sith, where it feels so tense but so dramatically desperate. I don’t know how to describe it except I never got the feeling that the two characters were desperate to kill each other or even win the fight.
It always felt more like Obi Wan was fighting to stop Anakin from taking one more step into the Dark Side and Anakin was fighting Obi Wan to let out all the pent-up frustration he’s been feeling since he was a Padawan.
It’s more like two brothers who can’t figure out how to communicate, and everything’s come to a head, so they just start whaling on each other, as much out of confused love as it is resentment. I feel like I’m not putting it into words right, but there’s definitely something desperate in there that I can’t articulate, which no other movie scene does.
(I mean obviously at the end of the fight one of them is going to have to face killing the other, but that almost feels like…the pretense for the fight? not what each of them is truly fighting for?)

in defense of padawan haircuts: do ewan and hayden both have lovely hair that is part of what makes them ever so beautiful? yes. but padawans are monks in training so they're not supposed to be fuckable treats for the eye. they have funky hair that marks them as members of their order!! awkward, uncool, unlovely haircuts that make them look like dork ass home-schooled losers. their silly braids advertise the length of time they've studied as a proxy for their deepening commitment to the order and mastery of the jedi arts!! they have a stubby lil nerf tail because it's traditional and tradition is sometimes awkward (and idk some cultures actually enjoy hair in that style!! they're not supposed to look like usamericans maybe) and like.. the order also maybe doesn't want its baby jedi to be fashionable trend setters with glossy flowing locks for good reason!! look what happened when anakin was too pretty!! he was so fuckable it broke the system and ruined his life and the entire fuckin galaxy, maybe the council should have made his haircut worse. his hair should have been so deeply tragic it distracted padmé from his sharp jaw and pouty lips. obi-wan should have completely nuked his charisma stat from orbit before shipping him away to naboo (his game was already terrible, so he was halfway there!! just make him terrible to look at too!!) sexy hair needs to be earned with knighthood, once they know you're truly committed to the jedi way. curls and mullets are a privilege not a right!! the padawan haircut is like training wheels for non-attachment, like.. leave them alone!! their brains aren't done cooking yet. their hair is so bad it's good, just like the prequels ok. i'm bleeding out on this hill but you. Cannot make me leave
