I maintain that the best summation of my feminist beliefs are that men and women are not fundamentally different. There are a few quantifiable differences if you average out every woman and every man, but they are not qualitative. And most of them are socially constructed, and would be fixed if we started treating men and women the same. Neither is inherently smarter, neither is inherently kinder, neither is inherently more stoic or stronger or angrier or softer. Everyone is obsessed with the differences between women and men, with finding them and creating them and distancing themselves from the "other half". It's fucked up

#i went to a museum exhibit today for a class that focused on boys (late high school age) and what masculinity meant to them #in the context of their friends. peers. school. greater society to an extent #i dont know if it was the interview questions themselves or if it was truly how they were trying to approach it #but (almost) every answer was trying to justify masculinity in its good qualities #ignoring the weight of all the misogyny and other bad shit that defines masculinity #obviously being defined by your gender can mean a lot to people so the want to justify yourself as a man (and therefore masculine)#you want to drop the baggage that comes with it #and its just frustrating that the idea that the good qualities of masculinity cant just become genderless #thats something that needs to be instilled more in the youth #literally only one kid answered by saying they thought being a carer was neither masculine or feminine #shout out to that one kid #sorry for the big yap #:P
