How DAV went wrong with the old god lore
If there's one thing that continues to infuriate me about DAV it's the lore related to the old gods and dragons in the game. Significant chunks of it make no sense and make the setting worse all around. A lot of it seems to stem from some kind of desire to streamline the lore. So here's a list of all the issues I have with the Old God lore in DAV:
1. The Old Gods are high dragons
So this is the first mistake they made. Turning the Old Gods into high dragons. In the comic books we were introduced to the concept of great dragons and how they were extra powerful and connected to dreamer magic. In the previous games there were several codex entries that hinted that the Old Gods were supposed to be great dragons rather than high dragons.
The Old Gods were like unto dragons, as the first human kings were like unto ordinary men. So it is written in the Tome of Koslun. -Sten, Those Who Speak
Codex entries: The Old Gods; Dumat, the Dragon of Silence; Dragon Cults, Drake's fall
I want to complain about the fact that there's Solas's slavery liberation project going on in the tunnels of Minrathous and about the damn elven statues/ruins beneath Minrathous at all. Not only did they take the whole "Tevinter was built on elven civilization" too literally (have they never heard of metaphors?), but it makes no damn sense given the lore. These ruins were never mentioned before just that there were tunnels under the city.
Minrathous was according to WoT books a rocky island that the early humans arrived to while the elven civilization was still going on. So, how did these humans take over the elven city? It made much more sense for it to be an uninhabited island.
And did everyone just ignore Solas's operation? Like did the humans and the elven establishment just go all "ignore the baldy and the missing slaves and the shady shit he's doing"?

(huge thanks to @corseque for uploading the Veilguard script!)
guys i'm sorry but that just depressing
how did we this from THIS amount of skin details to this flat ass, disproportional, blurred nothingness with ugly eyebrows
armor got too exaggerated (look at the amount and size of pouches)
and the metal shine looks oddly cheap like it was made by low budget cosplayer
how the hell do you make materials in a game look cheap???
daggers look way too big and clunky and usually don't have a proper metallic shine
also look at what they did to warden helmet omggg
even tarot cards look like shit come on
Awakening did it all before it was cool
This is a compilation of elements that are in DAV that Awakening did before Veilguard.

According to the artbook the devs tried to make Cory and the Architect look like imitations of Ghil and Elgar'nan, but that didn't really work on a character level because Cory's dialogue is peak while Elgar'nan's dialogue comes across as "I'm 14 and this is deep" and simplified with less complicated vocabulary and grammar.
I tried to find some examples where Cory and Elgar'nan are supposed to be saying similar things to showcase this:
Elgar'nan: I am Elgar'nan: First of the Firstborn, Last of the Evanuris. Come to reign over you with fine and gentle hand.
Cory: I am Corypheus. I shall deliver you from this lie in which you linger.
A short example of the simplification imo:
Elgar'nan: This is my moment of triumph.
Cory: Now is the hour of our victory.

The idea for this piece has been simmering in the back of my head and in some sketchbooks for YEARS, so I finally bit the bullet and actually painted it. It's also influenced by Paramore's song Misguided Ghosts, which has always been one of the main songs I associate with Mahariel. It fits the Dalish Warden Origin so well. 💙
