idk if i can ever top this piece tbh. i need this on a tshirt.
i want to stress, so much, that there's a difference between good media, and media that's well-suited to transformative fandom.
sometimes, the canon is so good on its own that you don't feel the need to add anything to it. you could, and people do (and should!) but the writers/creators really knew what they were doing and the experience of consuming said piece of media is entirely satisfying on its own.
then, there's the objectively mediocre stuff that has just enough hints at depth/character backstory potential/little plot idiosyncrasies to make it a perfect sandbox. i'm talking big movie franchises and long-running, middling procedurals that won't win any awards. there's so much potential there, and the writers either lack the skill or time to explore it all fully, and that's where fandom jumps in.
sometimes, that's the best kind of show to be in fandom for, because what else are we all going to do but be creative and fix what canon can't get right?
“Every Pokemon is someone’s favourite” I’m making a spreadsheet to see if this is true. Reblog with your favourite Pokemon in the tags.
Here’s the spreadsheet in-progress
Ok, mother of GOD that's a lot of responses and I am but one man with Excel. I'll update these ASAP but also some rules:
A Pokemon only counts for itself, not its evolution line.
A Pokemon with multiple forms (like Zygarde) will only be counted for the specified form. A Pokemon with multiple appearances (like Spinda, Vivillon, Sylvally, etc.) count for all their appearances.
I'm literally doing this as a testament to my own depression that not everyone is lovable, so add that to the weight of this post's meaning.
Here’s some sketches exploring one of my ideas for the creature from “The Terror” by Dan Simmons, and how I imagined it could work as a supernatural element while still able to be mistaken for a polar bear at a glance or in the distance.
All the variants of this classic meme have always made me laugh, and then I had this "Chamberlain variant" idea...and I just couldn't not draw it.
How did you like this one? I hope it got a good laugh out of you, too! Share it around shamelessly if you know other Dark Crystal fans who might be in need of a hearthy laugh!

BG3 - The Emperor - Notes on a character
We’ve 'finished' working on a document about The Emperor from Baldur's gate 3, covering pretty much all aspects of the character. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1L7YLGcvu8FmoRFzfpRqaG3nEWz6PYoJP/view?usp=sharing
We focused on patterns, cross-checking what the Emperor says with what he actually does across the entire game, not just in isolated moments. (+ Interviews and lore) So this not a real analysis that argues scene by scene, and this approach comes with its own interpretation, but what emerges from it is a sense of coherence that holds up across all the branching, from the opening of the game to its conclusions. No "The Emperor is evil", no "Larian didn’t know what they were doing," no "the romance is unfinished," and no "he’s just a blank mirror for the player."
This document exists because we couldn’t find anything like it, so we ended up writing it ourself. Hopefully you’ll find some interest in this. ++ St
