My opinion on TADC ending (no spoilers)
I've heard some people complain that some things needed closure, I think we had closure but because it's not on YouTube, we can't stop and analyze it with detail yet. And the things that were left in the open were very much intentional.
I know this is the first show Gooseworx wrote, and she did it alone which led to some inconsistencies here and there, but when I see the final product I really don't mind. I think the message was so beautiful it took over any complaint I could have.
Like the creator said, this show is about finding meaning in a stagnant life. Something you can see throughout all the episodes that's why on episode 8 they all grieve, they have to give up the idea of running away -regardless of whether they achieve it in the final episode or not, the pain is relatable-.
I cried for a quarter of the show. Ugly cry, sobbing, all of it. It was a sensitive day but the ending hit right where I needed it and gave me some sense of hope. When I end shows or a good movie I'm left with a sense of emptiness, but I felt the opposite with this one. A hopefulness we need now more than ever.
We're nearing an economic reset, we're living war and genocides, our ecosystems are being destroyed and living is just plain painful and difficult. But, we are fighting back, longing and trying to find a sense of community back, we're discovering new things about our planet and finding ways to help live thrive with us.
Where so focused on the bad that we don't realize we're already taking baby steps towards something better. Dark times bring chaos, but because we're looking for peace, we're fighting against what makes us unhappy.
This is what I felt watching this show. It was terrifying, it made me feel awful at times (as psychological horror does), yet I think the conclusion made it so beautiful.
On a different note, I can also see why Goose felt so deeply when people within the fandom weren't nice. The story is quite personal, I could see a bit of her in it, and I liked it. She's got a sensitivity much needed that brought many together. Yeah, fandoms are toxic as heck nowadays, that's a result of massive globalization all at once and the lack of control of certain media -and something else I'll mention later-, it surely made the group experience of the show more troublesome, but it did not ruin it for me, because in this story I saw more Goose than the fandom. Takes some guts to share something so personal, something you've spent so much time and effort into. And it paid off, because the reason the fandom went crazy was because we all could relate to some degree.
The story, the characters, the designs... A bit crazy and sometimes abstract, but that made it easier for us to see a part of ourselves in it. For example, watching the show, I used to dislike Ragatha a lot until she lashed out at Jax, why? I saw what I hated about myself in her, seeing how she expressed herself and felt personally liberating. When some of the fandom complained about her, I could also see a parallelism in some of my real life events and helped me process and understand certain events. But that's just one thing, I could relate to every character to some degree because they weren't just archetypes but actual humans. All of this helped me on a therapeutic level, something that I haven't experienced to this extent since Steven Universe.
If Gooseworx ever reads this:
You have a beautiful gift that the world needs, even if you don't see it now or don't want to share it anymore. Absolutely valid, who can handle so much attention in such a short span of time? I will not complain if you decide to not share your stories again, but please do not stop creating. I hope you can take time for yourself, to rest and see what a beautiful thing you've done. I am very thankful I found your show, it brought me more hope and joy than I could've expected. Thank you.
With all of this said, I can't wait for more people to watch the ending c:
