Just thinking about how Dylan’s feelings and everything he’s been through tends to get overlooked by those around him because his flat affect and expresses things differently.
Do You Know This (canon) Autistic Character?
Dylan Keogh from Casualty (British TV)
Yes, I know him and see them as autistic
Yes, I know him, but I don't see them as autistic
I've heard of him
I don't know him, but they seem autistic
I don't know him, but they don't seem autistic
I don't know him
Propaganda:
surprised that there is at least a vote on ‘yes i know him but i don’t see them as Autistic/they don’t seem autistic’ - I genuinely didn’t think anyone read Dylan as neurotypical haha
Anyway just to add some things I’ve noticed to this : )
Direct/doesn’t really engage in things like small talk
doesn’t thrive socially/can feel very uncomfortable
Seen him hyper fixate on things
not the biggest fan of eye contact
mentioned numerous times how he doesn’t like noise
blunted affect
Speech patterns
often misses jokes/ takes things literally /can miss social cues
His dad was abusive to him growing up because he wasn’t ‘normal’ and he was bullied by his peers
Will Beck is such a phenomenal actor. He manages to capture Dylan’s vulnerability and depth so achingly well 😭
Dylan & Jodie storyline is going to get SO messy isn’t it
Jodie is self destructing & Dylan’s probably not far behind..
I’m missing Dylan keogh
Genuinely don’t even think Dylan knows whether he has feelings for sophia or not, think he’s just utterly confused by her behaviour towards him. It’s okay Dylan, I don’t even know what’s going on either.
I wasn’t sure whether to post this or not, but it’s been sitting in my drafts for weeks so why not? I know I said on my last post I probably won’t post again but this will be the last time unless they kill Dervla then I’ll see you all again..
I’ve liked the way they’ve done Dylan’s autism story, I mean this is my take on it.
Firstly Dylan being like “If I were” and “what If that’s” makes complete sense, he was never going to admit he probably knew he was autistic when it was brought up the way it was. This is the first time Dylan’s had to deal with being told he couldn’t do his job because he’s autistic and made to think he’s unsafe because of it - he was pretty much gaslighted into getting a assessment. And it explains why he brought it up to Stevie the way he did. It was heartbreaking to see someone being made to feel so uncertain of themselves and who they are. And I’m glad they showed that people like Patrick exist, they zone in on these things and use it as an attack.
Then the “and now I know” scene, I mean giving how it was so focused on Patrick wanting Dylan to get a diagnosis. I like to think of it as a “and now I know… a diagnosis doesn’t change the fact I’m a great Doctor and safe” - He realised weeks before that being autistic didn’t impact his abilities as a Doctor or make him unsafe, before or now, like Patrick tried so desperately hard to make him believe and this just 100% confirmed that for him. He didn’t need to tell Stevie because it changed nothing… but you know who might be interested in hearing about it all is Patrick’s new workplace...
Just seen the spoilers about Dervla.

Forgot all the details to my old account but just wanted to say Dylan Keogh is autistic and I’ve waited years for them to explore this with his character.
