i am begging some of yall to learn what "syncretism" is. this constant argument over whether christmas is a christian or pagan holiday is very redundant after the 30th post. things can coexist and blend together over time. it's not always an "us vs. them" argument.

it’s less about whether our holidays and traditions as pagans being ‘stolen’ from us, and more about most of us having deeply ingrained religious trauma. On the whole, the vast majority of the christian community does not know or care that the traditions were once ours, belonging to our ancestors who were on the whole forcibly converted to christianity.

I’ve seen such vitriol from christians toward pagans/witches for being evil then turn around and pretend that their holidays/folklore are completely original and the ‘right’ religion. It’s completely okay for religions to have borrowed elements, but there needs to be a respect for where they came from originally. The mythology of a virgin giving birth to a god/savior predates christianity by centuries, but most refuse to acknowledge this and instead believe that jesus was an actual person who was actually born of a virgin and actually did everything in the bible.

So no, I don’t really give a shit if a christian celebrates christmas or easter. I’ll be here, peacefully celebrating yule and ostara and beltane. But if a christian wants to come for me for celebrating that (which christians are wont to do), I will absolutely put them in their place. I refuse to take any more bullshit or oppression from a religious group that systematically colonized, forcibly converted, and killed in the name of their rip-off religion.

But I bet it’s nice up there on your no-nuance high horse!
