the first half and the second half of Backrooms (2026) felt like different movies to me. they wanted to be in conversation and they loosely were, but it felt like we missed a middle piece connecting them fully. and I think a big part of that is Clark going from a character who constantly hurts people despite saying he doesn't want to or mean to, but in the sense of becoming insulting or angry or violent, to someone who keeps his assistant manager's head in his fridge and seems mostly unmoved by it. sure the potential for violence was there, the anger, the cycle of hurting people, but I feel like we didn't see ENOUGH of that in the beginning to buy into the Clark who will scalp someone with a knife just because "they can't feel it". it felt like an escalation that wasn't set up properly

and I think a big piece of this is because we never get to actually see Clark with his wife.
