Yet Another World of Warcraft Prediction

So, I told this to @catpuccinos a while back, but I don’t think I ever made a public record of it.

It’s been stated officially by Blizzard that Gul'dan will be back in Legion, and it has been strongly implied that he will be going after Illidan in some capacity.

What has NOT been stated is WHY Gul'dan would seek out Illidan, and I have a theory about that. My theory is largely informed by the fate of the original Ner'zhul, who, having failed the Burning Legion, was captured by Kil'jaeden, his soul torn from his body, tortured for years, and finally bound into a suit of armor and thrown into Icecrown Glacier, where it was frozen in a block of ice forming the Frozen Thrown and Ner'zhul becoming the Lich King.

That seems like a pretty severe punishment if you ask me.

Now, why this is relevant is that, at the end of the Hellfire Citadel raid, when Archimonde is defeated (again), Archimonde’s final act is to invoke Gul'dan’s pact with him, banishing him beyond the Black Gate to one of the worlds controlled by the Legion (possibly Argus, but it could be any of the many worlds the Legion has conquered). This would put Gul'dan right into Kil'jaeden’s hands, and Kil'jaeden, as I pointed out earlier, is not someone who suffers failures lightly.

And this is a Gul'dan who failed TWICE: first when he promised to make the clan Chiefs drink from Mannoroth’s blood AND at his last stand at the Black Gate. To put it mildly, I would not want to be Gul'dan right now.

So, how does this relate to Illidan? Because Illidan is the only being in the known universe to openly betray the Legion and live. Gul'dan isn’t seeking Illidan to bring him back into the fold of the Legion or to enact the Legion’s final vengeance upon him; Gul'dan is seeking Illidan because he believes Illidan is the only being in the universe who can save him from Kil'jaeden.
