“A long-term study of children raised by lesbians found that these children were less likely to suffer from physical and sexual abuse than were their peers who were raised by heterosexuals. This is thought to be due to the absence of adult heterosexual men in the households (Gartrell, Bos, & Goldberg, 2010). Girls raised by lesbians tend to have higher self-esteem, show more maturity and tolerance than their peers, and are older when they have their first heterosexual contact (Gartrell et al., 2005, 2010). Children raised by same-sex parents seem to be less constrained by traditional gender roles; boys are less aggressive, and girls are more inclined to consider nontraditional careers, such as doctor, lawyer, or engineer (Gartrell et al., 2005; Stacey & Biblarz, 2001). Over the course of more than 20 years, scientists studied the psychological adjustment of 78 teenagers who were raised by lesbian mothers. Compared to age-matched counterparts raised by heterosexual parents, these adolescents were rated higher in social, academic, and total competence, and lower in social problems, rule-breaking, aggression, and externalizing problem behavior (Gartrell & Bos, 2010). There are fewer studies of children raised by two men, but gay fathers are more likely than straight fathers to put their children before their career, to make big changes in their lives to accommodate a child, and to strengthen bonds with their extended families after becoming fathers (Bergman, Rubio, Green, & Padrone, 2010).” ~ Martha Rosenthal, Human Sexuality: From Cells to Society, p.247.

Hi there, my name is Gemma and I’m in desperate need of help. A few weeks ago, due to a reassessment of my mental health under the benefit cuts that are widespread in the UK, I lost my Universal Credit benefit which basically helps me get through the month with rent, bills and food as my mental health prevents me from finding work. It was supposed to get sorted, but as of September 22nd 2017 I am still not in receipt of my U.C benefit due to my reassessment being an ongoing case, which I have been now been told can take a further 3 - 4 weeks to be processed.
This leaves me with absolutely nothing to pay my rent, my bills or even buy groceries with and until it’s reinstated I honestly don’t know how I’m going to get through this. I have absolutely no one to turn to for help and have already exhausted all resources through my local government, food banks and even the local church.
I know times are hard for everyone, but I really have nowhere else to turn. This is also very time sensitive as my rent is due at the end of this month and a failed payment will result in an eviction notice.
If you can help, please consider donating to my paypal so that I can buy food and hopefully pay some utility bills: https://www.paypal.me/Gemzy
Or donate to my youcaring page where I’ve set the goal of £400 to try and see me through the next few weeks. If you can’t donate please signal boost. It would mean a lot to me. Thank you 🙏❤❤
I only have a few days left now to pay my rent and I’m so scared that I won’t make it. If anyone can help out please consider it, even if it’s just a reblog!! ❤

Fun fact
Native Americans weren’t allowed US citizenship until 1924.
Let that sink in. We lived here first…for thousands of years. And less than a hundred years ago we were finally given citizenship.
We also fought in WWI despite not being US citizens.
In Arizona, natives weren’t granted the right to vote until 1948. Think how that type of neglect ties into resource colonization as infrastructure was developed within years prior.
In addition: the indigenous peoples of Canada were not recognized as Human Beings until the year 1960. Now let that shit sink in.
In the US it wasn’t until 1968 that the Indian Civil Rights Act was passed and allowed for the right to freedom of speech / assembly / press, a jury trial, the right to an attorney etc. It’s so fucking frustrating.
and it wasn’t until 1978 that we were legally allowed to practice our own religions. in a nation founded on religious freedoms, it was illegal to practice our own religions. in our own country. how fucked up is that?
Aaaand Native Americans weren’t entitled to their own languages (had no legal rights to teach them in their schools, use them in business) until the Native American Language Act of 1990.
I teach this to my students, because NONE of it is in a single textbook. This is and act of indoctrination
Boosting because I didn’t know any of this.
These facts should be known by all.
Didn’t know half of this.
^^^ Your not SUPPOSED to know any of it. That’s how institutional racism works.
Girl power!
Earlier this year, Milla Star Bizzotto, a 9-year-old from Miami, finished BattleFrog’s 24-hour Xtreme race. Designed by a Navy SEAL, it consists of a 36 mile run, an 8 kilometer swim, and 25 obstacles that include a rope climb, crawling under barbed wire and climbing a 12-foot wall – each of which she had to do six times, over six laps.
She trained with her dad, a fitness coach, for nine months. She signed up for the BattleFrog to inspire kids of her age – she was doing it especially for kids who, like her, had been bullied.
“She literally murdered it. I was so convinced the race was going to crush her. I wanted to prove to her that it’s tougher than she thought. But when we finished it, all she wanted to do was another lap.”
This is beautiful and heart breaking

Meaning that relationships formed by choice are stronger than those formed by birth.
Let’s not forget that “Jack of all trades, master of none” ends with “But better than a master of one.”
It means that being equally good/average at everything is much better than being perfect at one thing and sucking at everything else. So don’t worry if you’re not perfect at something you do! Being okay is better!
These made me feel better
Also, “great minds think alike” ends with “but fools rarely differ”
It goes to show that conformity isn’t always a good thing. And that just because more than one person has the same idea, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good idea.
what the fuck why haven’t i heard the full version to any of these
“Birds of a feather flock together” ends with “until the cat comes.”
It’s actually a warning about fair-weather friends, not an assessment of how complementary people are.
I’ve always felt like these were cut down on purpose.
I really like these phrases and plan on spreading this knowledge.

I want to make designs out of these.
Funny how all the half-finished ones encourage uniformity and upholding the status-quo, while the complete proverbs encourage like…living exciting, eclectic lives driven by choice and personal passion.
