if you don't mind me asking, what is an utaite?? I tried looking it up and it was kind of confusing

(I won’t make this as lengthy as the -P one I swear.)

To put it simply, utaite (歌い手) is a term for cover artists on Nico Nico Douga, a video sharing platform in Japan similar to Youtube. What makes utaites different from other types of singer is that they mainly cover VOCALOID songs (they do cover anime and J-pop songs, too though not as often). They title and tag their covers with the phrase utattemita (歌ってみた, lit. tried to sing). There are lots and lots of utaites, ranging from amateurs to semi-pros e.g. Amatsuki, 96Neko, Soraru. Some stopped being utaite to pursue a professional career in singing e.g. Valshe and Nano. The equivalent term of utaite on Youtube is youtaite.
