I'm glad I watched it, but also now have to live with the particular ache of coming-of-age ensemble cast stories that inevitably have open endings. I can feel in my heart of hearts they'll all be ok, Nick & Charlie will 1000% get married, etc etc. But there's always a sadness, a hole left behind that your time on their journey ends here

Overall I'd say the reputation the series has makes sense and is reasonable for the first season but Not the series as a whole. It really matures, touches on real, difficult topics and doesn't just glaze over them or resolve them quickly. The number of times season 3 and the finale movie made me cry.... But it's always with an intent of hope, of showing you can go through all of that and still be ok. Even if ok doesn't look how you wanted or expected it to. That life is hard and messy, but having a support system and being willing to be open about your feelings will make a world of difference
