audrey and laura are 100% character foils but in such an interesting way. they are inverted images of each other. audrey is a sheltered little girl who is trying to paint the image of a wordly, sensual grown-up woman. laura is street-wise and wild and hyper-sexual and moves through that forbidden adult world like a shadow while keeping up the public image of the girl next door. audrey changes to heels in school and laura only wears them to a night out. laura holds audrey’s father’s heart in the palm of her hand with seemingly no effort. johnny loves laura. laura’s a mystery and audrey is an investigator. question to answer. they both want to be free of a town that has grown its roots around them without their consent. audrey wants nothing more than cooper’s attention and cooper only sees laura. cooper is unable to save laura palmer. cooper saves audrey horne. even their physical appearances contrast. they are everything the other craves to be but can never be. i’m not going anywhere in particular with this i just think it’s neat.
