having a socratic dialogue with myself about whether the concept that being able to speak with divine/cosmic entities and have them respond rather than just engaging in traditional unidirectional prayer is a skill that can be developed with practice because the human brain needs to be able to receive certain stimulus that it normally isn’t open to is inherently fascist because it implies a spiritual meritocracy that is closed off to the most disadvantaged because meditation requires the privilege of free time for most people or if it’s actually an indictment against organized religion and capitalism since anthropological data does seem to suggest that humans spoke to supernatural beings with much greater ease and regularity in the pre-agricultural era and then a third perspective came in and started arguing against the validity of the debate in general on the grounds that spirituality is an illusion and then the first two people kind of joined forces to respond from the esoteric standpoint that even if what we perceive as gods are actually just our own inner selves providing guidance we couldn’t otherwise access it’s still proven that engaging with whatever “voice from beyond” comes from our unconscious is almost always beneficial for emotional wellbeing barring cases of religious trauma or psychosis and it’s like oh my goddddd you guys please I just want to wash my face it’s been twenty minutes
