Being a BoJack Horseman fan is so hard because the show explores themes of trauma, addiction, mental illness, the dark side of fame, suicidal ideation, cycles of harm, and redemption in honest and nuanced ways better than much other media I've seen. But if you get really into it and want to talk about that, you have to have serious discussions about characters with names like Mr. Peanutbutter and Cutie Cutie Cupcake

Angela is a Nepo Baby in the same way Ben Platt is a Nepo Baby, talented? Yes! Deserving of success? Yes! Hard worker? Oh absolutely, but girl you were in a movie with Queen Latifah and Dennis Quaid that flopped BADLY and your dad WAS the director- if Anything The Tiger Rising was to Angela what Dear Evan Hansen was to Ben Platt (and Be fr, she's not a nepo baby to the extreme that we use that term anyway, like, what you think her Mom got her into starkid? Her dad sweet talked ian into having Angela working at Smosh? You think they secretly own dropout? Come on.)

I have so much to say about Nepo babies, namely- they exist in EVERY INDUSTRY. People are influenced by their parents careers!! Not everyone is, of course, but some people are and there are inevitably going to be those people who pursue the same career paths/have the connections that their parents do, but no one complains about it as much until it becomes a conversation of Nepo Babies within the Entertainment Industry. Of course, there is going to be the few that come along who are talentless and running off the back of connections/a family name but. It's so hard to break into an actual career in the industry if you don't work HARD.

Nepo Babies within the industry (Including Angela in this case) for the most part have a step up from other people because they have watched and learned. Angela mentioned in an interview for a film a year or so ago that she wanted to become a producer because she watched her mother do it from their kitchen table. She knows how to make connections, she knows how to fund a project, she knows how create a project effectively because these are skills that she, and Most other Nepo Babies, develop simply from being in that environment growing up. This then stops being a conversation about Nepo babies and then starts being a conversation about how Inaccessible the entertainment industry is. How much hard work it takes. How difficult it is to break in when the only skills you have under your belt are the ones you learned in your college degree/high school diploma.

It irks me when people use the Term "Nepo Baby" as an insult, or as a way to devalue the successes of someone. A Career is not a race. Starting one step ahead is not going to guarantee your win. If a Doctor tells you that their parents were also Doctors, I think you'd be a little relieved to know that they were raised in an environment conducive to being medical personnel. If an artist says, oh my parents were artists, you'd think oh! How sweet! You saw your parents love for the craft and wanted to be a part of that! But the moment we get to the Entertainment industry, where career milestones are outward things for people to talk about and debate over, where your successes in your field are perceived by (in Angela's case) Millions of People, then it becomes a problem.

This then opens the conversation a little more, to the way that the Entertainment industry is Pedestaled. How it's often a career set apart from other careers. Because of the money and the fame, there's the idea that it's not a "job" when, it is. I'm not going to open the conversation there though because I think you'd know where I'm going and i'd never stop.

omg idk why this set to a week but that works i’ve bought it two more times 🙂‍↕️

honestly i could talk about it for hours, and that’s my favourite part of it. i’ve watched starkid for so many years and i have always loved discovering so many layers within each musical, from the acting directions and personal flairs, the music with its motifs, reprises and melodies, and just the writing styles with storylines, jokes and characters.

i’m not going to get into heavy spoilers but there were so many parts that i would repeatedly rewind and rewatch. the puppetry is immaculate and the vocals are so perfectly matched to the characters, songs and purpose they serve. it is a truly amazing take on the story of Cinderella and it’s wonderful to see starkid, and all my favourite cast members grow and hone their craft!

nick and matt are brilliant writers, and jeff continues to create wicked music, and every bit of the production and costumes truly blew me away!!!!

and of course, without getting into spoilers, angela as the stepmother was not only perfect casting (for the third time with lex and grace), she was also soooooooooooooo sexy in that role. she had men oinking and everyone agreed that we all would.
