Okay I didn't lurk around here tbh so idk everyone's opinion on THAT Vaas scene at the end of the game, but am I the only one who's genuinely sad about it ? I freaking loved it ffs, but I hated it. It's so bittersweet.

During all these years (10 years dang it) I was hoping for Vaas to be alive. Because we all know he "didn't deserve" this fate, we know he's a victim and not really an antagonist as the game depics him. We've talked on and on on the why's and how's for years in the fandom.

So seeing him alive gave me such a strong feeling. It was unbelievable. It was like a victory to me. TO US LMAO ! Yeah I thought about you guys lol.

BUT this scene really got me thinking... Vaas being alive only drove him deeper into madness. What hit me the most was that tennis ball representing Jason. It's like he needs him in the end. His last ties to humanity and sanity is Jason. And I'm not shipping right, I'm just saying... the irony. His enemy kind of became his only friend.

In the end, now that I've seen him alive, and it sounds so dumb but even if I'd been craving 10 years for this, I would have prefered him to just rest in peace. Because through his insanity he's suffering. Even if he's so far off from realising it anymore.

Anyway, that's just my opinion on it !

I was really sad about it as well. He manages to 'escape' someone who abused him only to cling to the other person who was abusing him in his mind? I didn't really see the progress.

But then I realized something : the tennis ball isn't jason, it's himself. Jason doesn't have a scar above his eye as far as I know. And if you change that, the ending takes a whole other meaning. We've seen through the DLC how much Vaas hates himself, through the vision in the greenhouse and that audio in the volcano. He was incapable of having a non-violent, healthy inner monologue. Whenever he was interacting with "himself", it was to beat, scream, insult, kick himself. The part in the greenhouse where he asks the addict version of him to say "I love me", which he only replied "fuck you" to just drives further home the point that this man is full of self-loathing.

But then you have the tennis ball. The tennis ball he says "I love you" to that 'answers' "I love you more". If this ball represents Vaas himself, then it represents tremedous healing for the character. It shows he indeed finally escaped the vicious circle of self-loathing and inner violence that came from the abuse, drugs and fucked up environment he grew up in. It shows he can finally have healthy a conversation with 'himself' which would be some incredible character growth. It doesn't mean he's a good person, he's clearly not. He's a criminal and a sadist who hurt/kill countless people. But there is something incredibly soothing with character growth, even if the characters are morally terrible.

Thank you for your analysis! The meaning is indeed completely different if the ball represents himself. I went back to check the scene again and I actually noticed the scar this time (idk how I managed to not see it lol).

I was also wondering if the ball references the ball named Wilson in Cast Away with Tom Hanks since he also played in Forrest Gump, and we know Vaas is a movie buff in his own way. He'd been quoting various movie lines several time in FC3 and in the FC experience so I extrapolate here but part of his characterisation is also to do just that. I just thought it was a nice little touch. He's still fxcked up, """healed""" from his self-hatred (ty for poiting this out), but in the continuity of his character growth he also coped with his suffering and insanity thanks to his liking and inspiration for movies. I mean these are assumptions at this point but the possibility of it is still interesting.

Hey a bit off topic but I’m so glad a couple of us are still active on here after all this time. It was SO worth it. Sometimes I’d be in total despair for new FC3 content, but finally, we got what we wanted. We even have a new animation coming on Netflix ! 2021, what a year. Sorry I’ve been a little too emotional there 😂❤
