This gag is most common in ocean settings, especially when the participants are in dire straits, such as stranded on a raft/life boat or on a desert island after a shipwreck. The gag is bowdlerized reference to the historical practice of cannibalism by desperate sailors, (the so called "custom of the sea").

The above is a joke, inverting the common, recognizable trope. Instead of being so hungry that they are imagining one's fellow sailor as a "giant roast chicken" (a very common depiction in cartoons in this trope), they are so satiated they are imagining their giant roast chicken as a fellow survivor.

People in the early twenty-first century of a certain age would recognize this reference. But it has become less ubiquitous, so younger individuals may not be familiar with the cartoons that made the gag so common.

What a very funny joke that definitely did not happen because Nintendo definitely did not buy up almost a third of the shares of the top five TV manufacturers in the time between the announcement and release of the Wii, shares which definitely didn't skyrocket in value over the next two years due to an increase in flatscreen sales, nearly half of which independent analysts attributed to people replacing damaged TVs with newer, more expensive models from electronics stores that relied on high-pressure sales tactics to upsell people and get them to buy more expensive models on credit which they couldn't actually afford.
