Pagan Prayer to Odin

Hail Odin, All-Father, Lord of Men,

And come sit at my fire and tell me your wise stories,

And hear me as I offer up my praise unto you, O God of Runes and Wishes!

The wisdom of your words and mind is unparalleled,

For you have traveled far and sought out knowledge,

Which has made you a god most great indeed!

Trickster and guide, warrior and poet, 

You revel in the arts of magic and runes, 

At once confounding men and blessing us with your guidance,

And for this we shall be eternally grateful!

Thou art the guide of men, father of the slain,

You who chooses the valiant dead to join your in your hall,

A most generous host, a most loving father,

May I praise you until my mouth rots away after death,

When you may take me into the sky with you to fight and be merry,

O mighty god, swinger of gungnir!

Hail Odin, All-Father, and may your name be praised forever!

Odin

Odin transgresses social norms and embraces seiðr - a form of magic that was often regarded as unmanly. He pays little attention to how others perceive him because he is willing to exceed conventional expectations in order to follow his own path.

To gain wisdom from Mimir's well, he sacrifices one of his eyes. To obtain knowledge of the runes, he offers himself as a sacrifice, hanging from the World Tree and piercing himself with a spear - a symbol of certain death. He is willing to suffer in order to attain knowledge.

For Odin, flirting with pain and death is a price worth paying to expand his awareness and deepen his understanding of the world. Through this relentless pursuit of wisdom, he becomes the ruler of the Norse gods.

Even though he knows the fate that awaits him at Ragnarök, he continues to act. He knows he cannot ultimately change destiny, yet he still opposes it. Odin embodies not only wisdom, but also perseverance, strength of will, and courage.

He is the patron of those who are willing to engage in acts of transgression in order to reach beyond the limits of human civilization, culture, and understanding.

Monthly Cycle of praise

Each day, depending on the number of the month, you may praise a god, goddess, or minor theoi associated with the number. This cycle allows for the learning of Greek myths daily and a deep connection with all of the pantheon. The cycle is based on Hesiod's works.

Notes:

Days which are associated with Horkos may be difficult

Hekate is praised at the end of the month. In short months, simply praise her on a new moon

Praising the gods listed in this list is not necessary, but as these days are sacred, it builds bonds. It's great to praise every God in this religion. It is polytheism, after all!

🌊 Subtle Poseidon Worship 🐬

Picking up trash at a beach, lake, or river

Collecting ocean water or making salt water (please do not drink either)

Collect seashells, shark teeth, seaglass, and ocean-related fossils/precious gems

Have a candle that reminds you of him (no altar needed)

Keep a picture of him in your wallet

Wear jewelry that reminds you of him

Wear cologne with a musky or breezy scent

Learn about local fish and underwater species

Have a stuffed animal horse or dolphin; have a stuffed animal of any water creature

Try eating seaweed or fish (be careful with shellfish; many people are allergic!!!)

Have imagery of the ocean, sea dwelling creatures, tridents, or pegasi around

Support ocean-focused organizations

Learn to go more with the flow of things; practice grounding regularly

Fall asleep/meditate to ocean sounds

Sunbathe on a beach, if able

Go swimming/diving; learn to swim/dive

Practice standing up for yourself; assert your boundaries; you have power

Make a list of your personal strengths and things you're proud of

Own a fish (please research the fish first)

Visit an aquarium

Learn how to ride a horse; volunteer at local horse stables, if able

Take care of your mental health; learn to be patient and forgiving with yourself

Learn about constellations; learn how to navigate using the stars

Take a walk under the full moon (only if it is safe to do so in your area)

Drink water; stay hydrated

Take a self-care shower/bath

Use hydrating lotion on your skin; take good care of yourself physically

Focus on the personal power and strength you have; maybe meditate on this

Practice mindfulness

Try fishing

Learn how to sail, kayak, or paddleboard

Try to learn divination of water; rivers, the ocean, lakes, ponds, etc. all work

Draw in the sand; build sand castles; create colored sand art (best in a pretty vase, imo)

Stand in water; ground yourself around bodies of water; meditate standing in or near them
