WHY ARE YOU RUNNING
i got 99 projects and now this is one of them
Big post of all my stuff for the homage assignment - Mostly a homage to the pixel art aesthetic and my hero Academia, but also just as an exercise in reanimating stuff. Would have liked to done the complete intro in a true pixel art style (as opposed to what I’ve done) but I found that the use of 3d camera movements in a few shots made it a bit difficult. There was a shot between Midoriya and All Might chilling on the bench and Endeavour, but it had 16 unique characters running around so it was something I found I didn’t have much time for.
A lot of this is kind of me testing the waters and working out how I would like to go about doing future stuff, especially the sprites. I’m currently really interested in sprite art and hoping to continue it as a potential honours piece with a little RPG.
My video project for pattern and rhythm.
3d Animation Studio: Animal Logic III
While working on the Lego movie and Lego batman movie, Animal Logic took inspiration from Finnish photographer Vesa Lehtimäki (also known as Avanaut) who creates realistic scenes using LEGO.
Grant Freckelton, a production designer on the film said “Douglas Trumbull influenced his work by creating smoke tanks or much much smaller environments filled with much much more atmosphere than you would normally have. That was the same approach we took.”
The Lego movie also took heavy influence from brickfilms, a style of stop motion animation using Lego as the focus. Brickfilms were popular on YouTube for a long time as a source of entertainment, and the studio decided to imitate that style in the creation of the film.
3d Animation Studio: Animal Logic II
Animal Logic has many different styles for their animations, changing what is needed based on the project.
Their work on both the Lego movie, and Lego batman movie share similar aesthetics and through the work of Chris McKay, the animation supervisor for the film, could incorporate strong comedy elements. The design for these films was to imitate the actual appearance of Lego toys, albeit in a slightly cartoony way.
Animal Logic has a tendency on working on more kid aged works when dealing with 3d animation, notably including the Lego movies and films like Happy Feet. Their VFX work however, has large amounts of variation, including working on many of the recent Marvel Movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Captain America Civil War
