People most of the time tend to drift away from me when I tell them I’m mentally ill.

But why? It’s not like I can transfer my illness to you. That’s not how it works.

People most of the time tend to get mad or get upset or say “Get over it/Why can’t you just try to get better?”

Like why? It’s not something in my control or a phase or something I can cure fully with some presricption or a medical procedure. That’s not how it works.

People most of the time start treating me differently, more awkwardly.

Why? I’m still me. My mental illness is a part of me, not all of me. It doesn’t define me. I am still me. Because of my mental state, I might act differently but those actions do not define me.

That’s not how it works.
