Please do not make fun of texas for not handling this winter storm. One thing so, so many people overlook is humidity - we have a higher humidity compared to the north, and let me tell you - it makes the cold much more painful and dangerous. A dry cold is easier to cope with than a heavily humid cold.
We aren't prepared for this, as a region. Our homes aren't built for this - we don't have enough clothes, if any, for this purpose. We don't have the conditioning for this, don't have the resources for this.
Some of y'all may roll your eyes, but this storm is unprecedented for most of us - its actually unprecedented in general. Our entire state is under a winter storm warning. Texas is fucking huge. And every single county is in danger of this front.
Its scary for us, and its fucking abominable that people want to make fun of us for it.
It is really weird to slowly lose your sense of taste and smell, like man, vanilla coke is now starting to taste like watery vanilla. Weird.
We have covid.
Its mild symptoms, like a cold, but they're slowly worsening. Im gonna try and blast it best i can
The only energy drink i actually like and it's a limited winter edition 😑
Did i ever say that i was finally promoted to assistant manager?
Back in the summer, they moved all of our area's managers around because one manager made some really, really big screw ups. I ended up getting that manager. I cried when i found out that my favorite manager was getting moved and i was getting the bad egg one. Boss lady (favorite) was trying to get me promoted to assistant manager, but she got transferred before my promotion could go through.
The Bad Egg Manager kept telling me he would promote me, but lied. He brought his assistant with him to my store, but he still could have promoted me, cause the gas station company wants each store to have 2 assistants now. But he didn't want go hurt his assistant's feelings and kept making excuses as to why he couldn't promote me, and then turn around and tell me he would do so as soon as he could. I got sick of his lies and excuses, so i talked to my area manager (Key Man - he has like 5 Keychain, all loaded down with keys lol) and told him everything that was going on. Key Man promoted me, and Bad Egg was pissed. But he's too passive to express it much.
I tried so hard to take care of that little store, cause Bad Egg and his assistant didn't do much, and Bad Egg pretty much refused to let us (assistants) take on some of the managerial workload. He also refused to train us. His assistant didn't really care - she was okay being a glorified cashier. But i wasn't. I am capable of taking on more responsibility and i learn quickly.
Things came to a head when Bad Egg decided that neither I or my uncle should be allowed to habe our own store key set - but his assistant could. I was done. So, my uncle quit and i transferred to the store down the street. I was okay working with my new store's manager - i've known him for about 4 years. I know he's kinda behind on current store procedures, but he has a pretty strong work ethic and he was more than happy to train me and let me take on more managerial tasks.
But the company decided to move all the managers around again. And my new manager was excited cause he's been wanting to take on a bigger store.
So the manager that got transferred to my current store happened to be my favorite manager. You wouldn't believe how ecstatic i was. Boss Lady is an absolute Hard Ass, but she and I mesh so well. Key Man was so, so amused cause he thinks that she is mean.
So these last couple months have been interesting. I've learned A Lot, and i can pretty much do everything that Boss Lady can. And she lets me. Not to toot my own horn, but im an awesome assistant. Key Man says im one of his best assistants in the area; he's pretty astonished at how much i get done, even with my cane.
Bad Egg ended up getting another assistant and she is so frusfrated with him. She's started asking me to kinda train her, since Bad Egg pretty much won't.
It's been a whirlwind. I really like taking care of this new little store.
Lesbian anthology came out today via Kickstarter!!(it’s also available as an ebook on Amazon)
Oh my god im gonna cry i got the silk and steel anthology today and im freaking out. I've been looking forward to this all year and oh my god i can read it nooooow
Im in a chatty mood i guess.
A regular customer - he's homeless and barely 21 - is so polite and respectful to me usually. The other day he stole food off of our grill and ran out. I tried to tell him that its okay and that i would pay for it, but he didnt hear me. I did pay for it though - kid's got a hard enough time as it is and i am not going to punish him for needing to eat.
Couple days later, he came in, pretty nervous. Right before he left i stopped him and said that next time he's hungry, just ask. I don't mind paying for him to eat. I am capable of doing that. I wasn't mad at him, or wanting to kick him out.
He cried - it broke my heart. He said that he's tried before with other cashiers, and they've thrown him out. I believe that. But i let him know that i won't do that and that i'll glady make sure he has something to eat next time.
I do stuff like this regularly. There are a lot of homeless in our area, especially at this 24 hour store i transferred to some months ago. I made sure, from the get go, to establish boundaries of course, but to also establish a welcoming environment. No, i will not buy your beer. Sure i can get you a protein bar or Sandwhich. Please don't steal - if you need something, ask first.
This one older guy was trying to hold down a job, but lost his work pants on the bus. I gave him 20 bucks and he was able to get another pair. Next day he came in and gave me 5 oranges as a thank you. He, thankfully, wasn't fired. He's had a hard time maintaining it, but he now has a place to stay and he's doing better.
Helping people out is so important to me and its nice to see some of the homeless people start to do better, even during these hard times.
Okay. So a Lot has happened over these last six months. But i'll talk about that later.
Right now i'm doing some online classes for assistant managers, and boy are these classes wacked out. Right now, this class im taking is about food safety. Which, yeah duh, thats important. But like, this course talks way, way too much about lawsuits. It places lawsuits above customers getting hurt. There are more pages on lawsuits than there are on the issue of potential illnesses.
Which, uh, sounds sketchy as all fuck to me. The older food safety program i took was more concerned about the "safety" part. The difference is so stark.
Yes hi hello
Tis i. Been a while.
I just needed somewhere to squeal about this, i'm so dumbfounded.
Ronthil in the volkihar clan, in skyrim, sleeps on the floor. I did not know this. Why didn't i know this. I squealed when i found him.
Seriously - i freakin went so squeaky i sounded like my huskies' squeak toys
I knew it was inevitable.
I finally got into Kpop.
I mean, i listen to a lot of non-english songs on the regular anyways - french, spanish, jpop, some german - but i kinda avoided kpop because of the, uh, frankly intimidating fanbase.
Fanbases definitely have an effect on my interest in a thing - my interest in star wars severely deteriorated because of the fans, my interest in Elder Scrolls skyrocketed because of the fan community, etc. And kpop fans... well, they don't quite impress me, at least the louder side of it.
But i watch a LOT of youtube, and as i started watching more fashion and Stationary youtubers, i noticed them talking about kpop and they were pretty positive about expressing themselves as opposed to catty, overly obsessive, etc. Its good to see a non-toxic side to a fanbase, its quite encouraging.
I can't particularly say that im into BTS's music all that much, but i like AleXa's music. And she's a super fit dancer - its so freaking cool to watch her choreography, i spend a lot of time watching dancers on youtube (cause im lowkey jealous i cant dance anymore).
So its been interesting to take a dive into kpop. I've avoided looking at all the comments for the most part - a few glimpses were more than enough.
I knew it was inevitable.
I finally got into Kpop.
Okay i change my mind on the aesthetic i want for my eventual first apartment.
As I've been doing research, i found myself super drawn to the neons, led lights and graphic. And pastels.
I think i'm going to do something based on vaporwave and outrun with cutesy pastel thrown in.
There's a lot more options, especially on online thrift stores for this style, so i dont have to feel constricted or limited. Or frustrated - its very hard to find all the stuff i wanted for a pastel industrial look.
Plus, it'll be easier to diy a lot of vaporwave stuff.
I'll think about it more, but I think i am gonna go with this aesthetic. It fits my personality better i think.
Incredibly frustrated over the fact that people don't actually make organizers that actually sit on the bed.
I dont want one that hangs off the side of the bed, i dont want a headboard organizer, and im not particular to rummaging around a nightstand everytime i need something.
I have a lot of space on my queen size bed (i move around a lot and love the bed space, buy im definitely gonna go downgrade to a full the next time i get a mattress) but the area next to my pillow doesn't actually get used, except to hold all of my junk. But they always fall off cause they're all sitting on a pillow. I need an organizer that wont wobble around and will actually hold all the stuff i use. Like an on-bed nightstand/tray thing, if you will.
I don't have the energy to diy something 🙃
oh i dig this so much. the plain words of “heal for the sake of others” is so blunt and to the point and something everyone should read (and reflect on) tbh
I made the executive decision to invest in a more expensive pair of sneakers. I keep going through shoes like crazy and im sick of it. I started off with 10 dollar shoes, then 30, then 40, and i don't want to constantly waste more money every few months.
So i got 70 dollar shoes on the recommendation from a coworker that these are the only ones she's tried that have actaully held up. We'll see. At least they're pink.
I can't honestly say i have ever spent that much on a single pair of shoes, or even a single piece of clothing. Its unnerving. If they last half a year though, it'll be a fucking miracle.
