VIDEO FROM THE SURFACE OF A COMET
This is truly incredible.
Details:
Remember Rosetta? That comet-chasing European Space Agency (ESA) probe that deployed (and accidentally bounced) its lander Philae on the surface of Comet 67P? This GIF is made up of images Rosetta beamed back to Earth, which have been freely available online for a while. But it took Twitter user landru79 processing and assembling them into this short, looped clip to reveal the drama they contained.
while the stuff in the foreground is dust/ice on the surface of the comet itself, the background is actually stars. i saw a stabilized video where you can really make it out, and it blew my mind.
hereās the stabilized clip, if anyoneās interested

If we are not happy, if we are not peaceful, we cannot share peace and happiness with others, even those we love, those who live under the same roof. If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace.

āIām tired of the news. Iām tired of the way it makes things spectacular that arenāt, and deals so simplistically with whatās truly appalling. Iām tired of the vitriol. Iām tired of the anger. Iām tired of the meanness. Iām tired of the selfishness. Iām tired of how weāre doing nothing to stop it. Iām tired of how weāre encouraging it. Iām tired of the violence there is and Iām tired of the violence thatās on its way, thatās coming, that hasnāt happened yet. Iām tired of liars. Iām tired of sanctified liars. Iām tired of how those liars have let this happen. Iām tired of having to wonder whether they did it out of stupidity or did it on purpose. Iām tired of lying governments. Iām tired of people not caring whether theyāre being lied to any more.ā

Meditation takes discipline, just like learning how to play piano. If you want to learn how to play the piano, it takes more than a few minutes a day, once a while, here and there. If you really want to learn any important skill, whether it is playing piano or meditation, it grows with perseverance, patience, and systematic training.

Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can.

āWe suffer because we want life to be different from what it is. We suffer because we try to make pleasurable what is painful, to make solid what is fluid, to make permanent what is always changing.ā

tips for when you are in a period of high stress
set priorities and reduce your overall activity
Whenever youāre facing more stress than usual, try to reduce your activities, set priorities, and focus on short-term goals. However, try to not avoid activity all together. This is difficult, because the way you think about tasks changes dramatically when you are stressed. Try your best to stop during times of high stress and ask yourself āWhat really needs to be done now? What can I let go until some other time?āĀ
Also, try to recognise that you only have a limited amount of energy - you canāt push yourself too hard - and remember to take time to rest and take care. Stress drains your energy more, so try to be mindful of that.Ā
spend extra time with decisions
Stress interferes with your ability to think. The greater the stress, the more likely it is that you will make poor decisions. Wherever possible, avoid making major decisions during times of stress. But, when a decision does have to be made, try to take more time with it, and talk to people about it who are objective - they may see problems or options you didnāt think off because of your reduced ability to do so while being stressed.Ā
plan ahead and take actions during times when stress is low
A lot of the time, you know when a period of stress is coming. When that is the case, try to take some time to plan ahead, make decisions, and take action in advance while youāre feeling better - this reduces the amount of thinking youāll need to worry about during a period of high stress. Having a plan helps you to focus and prioritise tasks.Ā
For those times when a period of high stress may come suddenly, try to take some time out to relax and collect yourself, so youāre able to plan ahead and prioritise. This can be difficult, so itās okay if you canāt. Just being mindful of how your body and mind can be affected by stress can help you through.Ā
some gentle reminders for if you are stressed
take a moment to breathe; close your eyes, put whatever you are doing down, and count slowly to ten
take a break if youāve been working for a long time on something
write a list of what you need to do, and then slowly put the tasks into order of priority
take some time out of your day to relax and unwind to the best of your ability
try your best to not push yourself past your limits
reach out for help if you need to
you can do this
i believe in you
itāll be okay
