tangentially related thoughts on that earlier post, but I think comparing varkaris to patrizion and skybox as "lol this operator is Racist" at all is kind of ridiculous because the laterano and columbian storylines respectively go out of their way to showcase both patrizion and skybox as Wrong for the values they hold which are born from completely arbitrary markers that serve to only further reinforce said racism. Like patrizion flat out says "You're making laterano sound Awfully Racist for thinking that non-Sankta aren't as blessed as us." and skybox straight up helped to create Rapture The Amusement Park of Bioshock Fame for his smuggling operations. It's blunt to the point of being comedic, and in both events they're not ever seen as 'right' by the narrative. Conversely, varkaris is never once actually villainized to any degree, because he is right to be mad: minos is being pushed to play nice and forgive their oppressors for the sake of a peace that came from a larger nation failing to conquer them, led entirely by a diplomat who immediately showed up and began intervening in local rebuilding efforts. obviously we as the player know titi isn't malicious and genuinely does respect minoan culture, but from varkaris' point of view, this diplomat from the nation that oppressed them for a literal century is suddenly taking charge of minoan reconstruction efforts after her nation desecrated said architecture while continually talking about how much she love love Loves minos culture. I don't want to say titi is a 'minos weeb' by any means, but that kind of... I guess aggrandized appreciation?, can be racist especially when, once again, coming from a member of the nation that tried and failed to conquer yours (larger discussion about how 'weaboo' is a racist idea on another theoretical post).

titi isn't malicious by any means, if anything she also actively goes out of her way to try and re-examine how she has to interact with minoan culture, to the point where she tries to stage her own suicide as a form of repentance (IK titi is black but like this is kind of a white savior moment imo), only for varkaris to save her life and go "what the fuck are you doing, how *dare* you try to pull a stunt like this, it spits on our culture". In every moment from beginning to end, varkaris is justified in his anger, and he's never once asked to forgive and make nice, because how could he when sargon destroyed his life, murdered his best friend, and made a mockery of his culture? The event ultimately ends on varkaris saying that he can't let go of his hatred for sargon and can't be friends with titi, and titi understands and accepts that, and this isn't portrayed as a bad thing. She's still head and shoulders above the other sargon diplomat who from the beginning treated minos as his old wartime stomping grounds, but the story makes it apparent that any type of 'reparations' she might attempt won't ever be enough to forgive the pain that minos endured under sargon, and varkaris not only represents that, but is even given every out possible for facing consequences for his actions because again, he is right to be mad.

I know that post was more about the racism of how many cultures are condensed into sargon and how that affects the overall arknights narrative in regards to racism, but I did think this was an interesting point of discussion.

abs martian manhunters portrayal of darkseid is really clever for pulling in that cosmic horror unfathomableness vibe. What are Jax's true thoughts on Gangle? Like i know she likes to bully Gangle in particular but we see moments where it seems like she actually thinks that they're friends almost (like when she says "what? She likes it when i'm mean to her") and ofc the scene with her in Jax's mind

I think Jax takes his complex feelings on his mother out on Gangle, but tries to justify it to himself through delusions that it's not ACTUALLY abuse, even though it is. Most abusers don't ever think of themselves as abusers, and tend to make up a reality in which their abuse is either not that big a deal or it's somehow warranted.

And from Gangle's perspective, she was at a very vulnerable place when she joined, and Jax took control of their relationship. She formed a bit of a codependent bond with him even though it just mostly caused her pain. Losing a friend who frequently hurts you can fill you with complex feelings that are really hard to make sense out of.
