“Well, aren’t you little miss bossy.” It was a joke, but he cast her a look that said otherwise, like he had a problem with being told what to do. And usually he did, a huge problem, but not in this case. She was simply pointing out what would be best for the both of them. Now, if she were actually trying to take the lead, then they would be having a completely different conversation.
He closed the damn door, even going as far as locking it. “For your information, I already thought of closing it so I’m not really listening to you.” He moved aside to draw the curtains and assess their situation through the window, immediately regretting his decision when a pair of palms slammed against the glass. Letting the curtains fall back into place to temporarily conceal their problems, Cohen turned his attention to his new sidekick.
“So let’s hear it, boss. What’s the plan?”
“S-sorry,” she stuttered. The adrenaline from running to avoid the horde had all but disappeared, along with the temporary confidence boost that came with it. They were both quickly replaced with her usual anxiety and even fear- not just from the walkers outside but from the man she was inside with now. He was going to beat the shit out of her for talking to him like that- no. She had to stop thinking that way. Not everyone was like that, she was just unfortunate enough to have lived with someone that did. At least that’s what she tried to keep telling herself anyway.
Val just watched in silence now as he moved over to the curtains- not a great idea but she didn’t say anything, she just let him carry on. When he turned and spoke to her, that too was initially met with silence. However after a few seconds, she did actually say something. “Uh- try and get out through the back door?” A pretty obvious and unoriginal suggestion- it probably wasn’t the best either but it was all she had at this moment in time.
