“i mean, i agree with you,” eve said with a shrug of her narrow shoulders, “but i also don’t really drink, so i’m not sure i can drink to it.” she offered a little, vaguely nervous, smile.

“she said to me forget what you thought ‘cause good girls are bad girls that haven’t been caught!” charlotte sang as she hopped on the table with her glass in hand; no party was ever complete without a drunk charlotte, dancing on tabletops and singing whatever was playing, it was sort of a tradition at these kinds of things. “come on, sing with me!”

eve almost said she wasn’t much of a singer, a thing she had done when she was uncomfortable back before everyone knew that she was a signer. now, she just looked awkward. “oh, i... it’s okay.”

to say that the tiny italian felt awkward would be an understatement, gia felt like an ant in a room full of elephants and that at any moment they’d realise they were there and crush the small child beneath their feet. tiptoeing through the event so gracefully that it seemed as if her feet never touched the ground only feeling comfortable when she found a table full of sweets. picking up a plate and piling it high with cupcakes, popcorn, gummy worms and their favorite bright pink cotton candy before their eyes scanned for a place to sit. awkwardly placing their food on the table they picked at the worms and silently played games on their phone only looking up when they felt the table be bumped. “ o-oh did you want to um sit ? or did you just need the extra chair ? you can um, take it, nobody’s sitting there. ”

eve was hardly a girl who was good in social situations. she was more likely to feel uncomfortable and unwanted, an imposter. she loved to act and she loved to sing, but being ‘famous’ was not something she had ever been, or perhaps ever would be, equipped for. she often wondered when people would notice she wasn’t meant to be here. when the other person offered eve a chair, she nodded. “thank you.”

       HIS CHOSEN POISON ? a whiskey sour & the company of a golden retriever. the twenty-five year old gingerly sipped at his drink as his other hand ran over the thick mane of the dog, the latter who made it OBVIOUS that she wanted to have a taste of the liquor.   “   no, natasha ! your mom’s gonna be unhappy with me if i give you some.   ”   much to the actor’s dismay, the dog whined in disapproval before trotting away.   “   BLOODY hell,   ”  the briton muttered, swiveling on his feet to begin following the pet, but instead, met the gaze of another standing a few feet away.   “   i didn’t give any alcohol to the dog, i SWEAR !   ” 

eve wasn’t much for alcohol and never really had been. she was young, it was true, but it wasn’t hard for someone in her position to get her hands on it, regardless. eve was a strange thing, a person who loved to sing and act but refused to watch her own show. “i believe you,” she said slowly, “is that why the dog left?”

“happy fake twenty-second birthday to me!” parker said from her spot atop the coffee table, raising her red solo cup in the air – though it had long been emptied. the party was in full swing and she was in desperate need of a refill; unfortunately she wasn’t as steady on her feet after knocking back a few. attempting to step off the coffee table, parker’s foot twisted and sent her toppling over. she let out a yelp, bracing for a hard landing but finding herself in someone’s arms instead. “you’d think i’d learn that coffee tables and stilettos don’t mix,” she slurred, her head falling against the shoulder of her savior. “thanks for the save, pal.”

“it’s, um... it’s okay. i’m really not sure how i caught you, but... guess it’s a good thing i did, huh?” she offered the girl a nervous half smile.

once, twice –   Evan gave violent tugs at the door handle of what LOOKED like an empty store; but any attempts at opening the darn thing resulted in nothingness, ( honestly! who locked doors nowadays? it made things difficult for the people trying to get in and take things; completely  annoying in Evan’s book. ) Either, noone had ever attempted to get inside ( slim, but if that was the case it meant it was full of treasures,) or there was something inside that someone didn’t want getting out; but there was only one way to ACTUALLY figure it out; dangerous or not.

‘’Come on!‘’ a low irritated whine erupted from the brunette, as her fist came down against the glass, peering inside with frustration, ‘’How am I supposed to–? This is stupid –’’she had fallen silent long enough to hear the faint sound of feet scuffing against pavement; spinning around at the sound ( hoping to GOD that it wasn’t a dead something; which luckily, it wasn’t. ) automatically stuttering out words in defense. ‘’I was only looking! It’s locked anyway so I didn't touch anything!’’

Cameron had been hunting. it was what he did. It was what he always did. Cameron might have been making an effort to be a better person for someone who had sort of insisted they were friends, but he was still him, which meant he would still be consistently disappearing out of nowhere for the sake of his own freedom. Perhaps it would’ve been strange to anyone else, but Cameron couldn’t help himself. He needed to be out, away from his group, alone.

When the girl turned to look at him, seemingly concerned that it was his place, that he was annoyed she was trying to get in, Cameron just snorted, “I don’t really care, to be honest with you. I’m not staying another night.” He told her with a shrug, “I was only staying there for a night. Be my guest and break in. Place was picked clean before I even got there.”

Watching with almost bated breath as she slid the knife home into the patch she’d made for it, she sighed in relief when it fit right. It was perfect, and she’d never been happier or felt quite so accomplished. At least.. not since the world had ended. Shrugging as his hand came down on her shoulder, she nodded her head. “You’re welcome.” Looking down at the little wind up watch on her wrist, she smiled a bit to herself and glanced toward the small window high up on the wall along the ceiling and above her bed. “Unless you’re eager to go.. I think there’s something else you might like. Don’t worry… it’s actually something peaceful.” Her smile turning to a grin she actually managed to reach over and give his shoulder a playful little shove. “You might actually get the rare opportunity of watching me be genuinely quiet.”

Cameron listened with raised eyebrows when she said she wanted to show him something peaceful. He wasn’t sure that he actually wanted to go and do this, but he was happy to go if it was what she really wanted -- after all, he doubted it would take long. And she’d promised to be quiet. Hopefully she would hold to that. He nodded, “Alright. I guess.”

His reaction was even better than she’d imagined, an actual smile.. or almost as much of one as she’d ever seen, graced his face and Charlie was so happy he liked it. What he did next, though, shocked her. He hugged her. At first she stiffened in surprise, before sort of melting into the hug as her own arms went around him to hug him back. Her face practically painted red as he let her go, Charlie gave a sort of twittering giggle as she nodded her head, though she didn’t really mention it out loud.. “It’s nothing, really. I just… I’m really glad you like it. Just promise you’ll put it to good use. Besides, it’s unique, like you, so.. you deserved to have the first one. I’ll probably start mine tonight. Maybe I found my true calling, re-purposing things. I did it with the coffee press I made, too. You should.. you should see if your knife fits, I can adjust it if it doesn’t.”

Cameron smiled a little when he saw her face as they pulled away, not really knowing how to react to her blush and electing to ignore it. He felt like perhaps that was the kinder thing to do. He nodded when she mentioned putting his knife in the bag and took it from her properly now, putting his knife in the patch she had mentioned to him. When it fit, he patted her on the shoulder. “Thank you.” He half smiled, “It’s really good. Thank you.”

“You literally started this by talking about how annoyed you were. What crawled up my ass?”

“Having an episode? What era are you from?” Grinning over her shoulder at him, Charlie laughed brightly and shook her head. “It’s nothing, really. Like I said, I’ve been cooped up for a while and I needed something to do anyway. It sort of started off as an experiment and once I realised it was going to work, I decided that  you’d probably like it, and get a lot of use out of it.” Letting go of his hand as they stepped into the kitchen, she lead him through to the large office in the back that she had converted into her room. Waving at him to sit on her cot, or in the chair at the desk, she moved to the trunk at the foot of her bed and reached inside.

What she pulled out was a patchwork shoulder bag made of carefully stitched together leather. It was practically covered in pockets inside and out. Setting it down in his lap, she sat on her bed and watched him with excited expectation. “The strap is an old belt, so you can adjust it, and.. and it has about fifteen pockets of all different sizes. I tried to make a sheath for your knife on the side, but I’m not sure if it’ll be the right size, but it’s in the perfect place for quick access.. and that on the other side is a holster. I don’t actually know if you carry a gun, but I figured one day you might if you don’t now. It’s strong… and waterproof.. and…” Blushing hard she reached forward and flipped the flap on the large front pocket, there, carefully embroidered with tiny, intricate stitches was his name in thread that went from blue to brown in nearly the same pattern as his eye. “Turns out I’m better at embroidery than I thought.”

“Are you really making fun of me for saying ‘having an episode’?” The blonde man asked her with raised brows. She was obviously getting more confident with him and honestly, he probably preferred it. He preferred her not treating him like she needed to walk on eggshells. He was still pretty irritable, that was the truth of it, but he was better with her. She had probably stuck out the worst of his personality to get to the better part of it.

When she gave him the bag, Cameron looked down at it with a half smile, unable to help himself. It was such an oddly thoughtful gift, something it was obvious she’d actually put a lot of time, thought and effort into. And Cameron couldn’t help it, he was shocked. What he did next was rather out of character. He leaned forward to hug the small girl, something he almost never did. Cameron wasn’t often a hugger, but when he did, he did it properly, pulling her in tightly, his arms locked around her like vices, the blonde half smiled, “Thank you. Really.”

Her gaze lifted from her gun, to the man standing in front of her as he asked what about her. Sitting perched on the hood of her red car, beneath the beating suffocating sun, her brows rose. “.. Take over the world? Nah.” She stated lazily, flashing him a half grin. “Too much of a hassle, I prefer the little victories myself.”

Cameron nodded at her response, “I suppose you could say the same for me.” Although he didn’t think he was anywhere near as cocky as the redhead was, as a general rule. He was confident, sure, but he couldn’t imagine saying he wasn’t going to take over the world because it was a hassle.

“My pleasure.” Reaching into the cooler next to her chair, she waved him towards one of the others that were set out around a well used fire pit. The small grassed lot she’d set her trailer in was rather comfortable now. Her chairs and even a picnic table under the pulled out awning that came out off the side of the extended out trailer. Handing him a beer as he held his hand out, she studied him for a moment, though she let the quiet sit for a moment as she enjoyed her beer. “Grace.” Her name, it was enough, for now.

She was being quiet and Cameron was rather glad. He could respect quiet people, they tended to be the sort of people he didn’t want to walk away from. He could stand this kind of company. When she told him her name, Cameron nodded politely and responded with a single word, “Cameron.”

Charlie was touched that he was trying, and very obviously so, because for once, it was him seeking out her and not the other way around. Though usually it was more like her stumbling across him. Her smile, already bright as it was, lit up further at the sight of one of him and she nodded her head as she reached for his hand, her excitement making her forgot to keep a bit of distance between them. She just wanted to get him inside to show him. “I’m actually really proud of it, and I might make one for myself now, but I hand stitched then entire thing. You’re going to love it, but I’m not going to tell you what it is, you’ll have to wait until we get inside and I can give it to you.”

Things Cameron were not prepared for could probably be narrowed down into a very small and very specific list. someone grabbing his hand to show him a gift, that had to be number one, right next to his sister returning from the dead. People were usually quite afraid of Cam and if he was being honest, he preferred it that way. So when tiny, nervous Charlie who had blushed after admitting she liked him grabbed his hand, it would be more than fair to say Cameron was... freaked out. “You... hand stitched me a present? Am I having some sort of episode here?” He asked, though he had to consciously remind himself not to recoil from the touch.

“Yeah well…take a load off. This area has been clear for almost a week.” Motioning around them with the hand that held her glass of wine, a brow slightly raised as she studied him. Sexy, sure, but she knew a brick wall when she saw one. “I like to call it the sanctuary. Care for a beer? They’re cold.”

He licked his lips, stopping to think about whether he wanted to stop and talk to someone. Could he have the beer and get away with not actually talking to her? That would be the preferred option for someone like Cam, who didn’t openly enjoy spending time with... well, just about anyone. “Thanks.” He nodded, holding out a hand.

“Cameron.” If she was honest, Charlie was a little surprised to see him. She no doubt that if they ran into each other he’d be friendly, but she hadn’t expected him to come to her. Breaking into a bright and surprised smile, the tiny brunette nodded her head, forgetting to put a damper on her happiness to see him. “Yes! I actually have something for you. I’ve had a lot of free time the last week or so and I needed something to keep my hands busy.. so.. I made you something.”

Cameron was making an attempt. It felt weird and he wasn’t entirely sure he was doing it right, but he was making an attempt and he felt certain that that had to count for something. Right? He looked down at the brunette, with her excitement written all over her face and accidentally smiled. He wondered whether she’d ever felt a thing that hadn’t shown on her face. “You... made me something?” He asked, a little surprised, despite himself.
