Hidden Figures and Cedric C. Clark's Stages of Representation
The story of Hidden Figures starts in 1961 when Katherine Goble and her two friends Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan work for NASA on their West Campus as "computers" doing mathematical calculations. These women were never told what they were doing their calculations for as it was most likely deemed that the information wasn't important enough for them to know. This is inferred from not only the time period the movie is set in but also from the fact that the whole mathematics unit is separated by race and sex. The only people that are in Kathrine's Group are black women. Kathrine is assigned to Al Harrison's Space Task Group by her white supervisor due to her high skills in analytic geometry.
One day during her work, she is questioned by her Harrison, her current supervisor about where she disappears to for 40 minutes a day in front of the rest of her coworkers. She explains to him that she has to walk half a mile to use the bathroom as there were no colored restrooms within the current building. This scene contains the following famous scene "I work like a dog day and night, living off of coffee from a pot none of you want to touch!" comes from. Immediately following the end of their discussion, Harrison goes to destroy the colored restroom sign, and abolishes bathroom segregation.
This scene represents Clark's fourth stage of representation, respect. Not only does one of the characters in this scene gain more respect and understanding of the hardships black people go through, the whole movie shows this theme off too. The hidden story of how the first rocket ship got off the ground was mostly attributed to the white male scientists at NASA, while this movie showcased how integral black women were behind the scenes. This movie, and many other movies like it, show the hardships, racism, and discrimination that black people faced back in the 1960s. It doesn't make fun of them or present the real life people the characters are supposed to represent in an inappropriate or harmful way.
Affordance and Social Media
What is Affordance and How Does it Relate to Social Media?
Affordance is the property of an object or thing that suggests to it's possible users how to interact with it. Every single item within our world has affordances but it's so ingrained into us as humans that we just don't notice it anymore.
So how does social media use affordances? All platforms have inherent affordances that are almost the same across every platform such as posting, commenting, liking, and sharing. Although the way to do these things might look different on every platform, they all have the same functionality. Individually though, each platform has it's own usage. You wouldn't say that YouTube, Snapchat, Discord, and Tumblr are used for the same things right? Lets compare.
YouTube
YouTube is mostly used for long form video content but it also has the ability to have short form video content as well. You're also able to watch live content in the form of live streams too. The reach of videos is much more wide spread than the other platforms mentioned throughout this post thanks to YouTube's algorithm and the Recommended section on their homepage.
Snapchat
Snapchat is a short form media platform where whatever you create and send to someone isn't permanent unless you specifically save it. You're able to send photos or videos captioned to directly to friends or to be posted on your story for everyone to see. You're also able to privately message those you're friends with or make a group chat for others to participate in. There's also a map that allows you to see other's locations if they have given permissions for it.
Discord
Discord is primarily a messaging system that allows for private messages between friends, small group chats, or massive servers for big communities. You're able to call, share your screen, and also have video of your face too. Servers are able to have many different chats to keep the cluster of talk down as well has having different spots for calls with others in the server.
Tumblr
Tumblr has long form text content rather than video content. There's no limit on the amount of characters are allowed in a post, unlike Twitter, as demonstrated by this post. It also allows the creation of multiple pages under one account to keep all content organized and within the correct tags. Tumblr is very fandom centered and thus the content of it is. Unlike the other platforms mentioned within this post, Tumblr is very centered on keeping to a handful of communities rather than having new content pushed at you. It's for keeping within your lane of your community both in posting and in consuming content.
I just read through some of my old QSMP posts and I actually miss it sm it’s crazy. Like as much as I was in a really bad mental space when I was in the community, I miss all of the content and the crazy lore and all of the CCs that were a part of it. For the first time in almost a year, I decided to hop back into one of Bad’s streams cause I’m finally back home from college for the summer and I’m starting to feel the drain of no social life again. I miss it so much. I miss being in the loop of lore, all the ships, and everything that’s happening. It’s actually making me tear up. Gah I miss it sm

Despite its flaws, the qsmp had really good representation, especially for communities often under or misrepresented in popular media.
There were a decent amount of genderfluid/genderqueer/nonbinary characters, mostly through the Eggs/Federation Employees/Other NPCs, but there were players like Maxo and Mike who use mutliple sets of pronouns. Pepito had no pronouns in English but preferred masculine pronouns/terms in Spanish. Most people referred to Richas with masculine terms, yet Pac and Mike affectionately referred to Richas as their daughter multiple times. Leo and JuanaFlippa openly had name and pronoun changes to reflect their gender identities. There was even discussion of preferred names with Lullah, who, as far as canon goes, is a cis character. There were openly accepted instances of cross dressing, that weren't even made into a big deal. Famously Mariana and Foolish, both masculine characters, are referred to with feminine terms. Mariana is referred to as Charlie Slimecicle's wife, and Foolish is referred to as grandma by both Richas and Pepito.
There were multiple aspec characters and multiple instances of queerplatonic/ambiguous relationships. Jaiden was very openly aroace. Her and Roier said they were partners. Cellbit came out as ace because he was worried that Roier wouldn't find their relationships fulfilling without sex. Roier responded that sex didn't matter to him in their marriage. Pac and Mike, who canonically share a soul, never defined their relationship and went with whatever people called them even if that defining word was boyfriends, despite Mike being aroace. Also, Mike had a nontraditional relationship in his relationship with Mine. Their relationship being that of goddess and devotee. Maxo openly had sex with Pierre while being an ace character. Empanada was an openly ace child character, and that was very accepted. Not to mention all the characters who could be interpreted as some form as aspec.
Qsmp also showed off many different forms of families. Platonic co-parenting basically defined the qsmp as we know it. Single fatherhood defined both Bad and Fit as characters and showed them having healthy relationships with their children. The rocky relationships of Charlie Slimecicle and Mariana and Maxo and Pierre were treated as serious parts of their stories despite the silliness also present in their relationships.
Sorry for the rambling, I just think that the qsmp is praised for its representation of queer relationships without mentioning its other forms of representation.

Thinking about that time that Q!Phil was trying to fly again and jumped off the wall, he said something along the lines of “you’ve done it before, you can do it again”.
Thinking about how in MaepleTea’s animatic (which is official as it was commissioned by Phil) we see Phil do basically the same thing.
Both times Phil didn’t know if he was actually going to be able to fly, but he threw himself off a ledge regardless because he has such a strong desire to fly.

This was kinda a poem to vent my frustrations. I think this feeling will probably haunt me forever. I also don’t want any more info about CC!Forever unless it’s something super major. It just makes me feel like shit.

like canonically ik he’s dead but in my head he managed to get unpossesed and escaped the federation and left the island and he’s living somewhere alone and he built the moon house and richas hatched into a dragon and flies out to visit him sometimes and maybe pac goes with him and reunited with forever and he’s just. happy living somewhere the federation can’t get him and his son visits him and he grows his hair out again and he almost cries with joy when it’s finally long enough to braid again. u see the vision
