I am so fucking excited to share this chapter with you all. Like, you don't understand lol. I did the first draft of this chapter over 6 months ago, it was the first thing I ever wrote down for this story. I have been constantly refining and improving it the whole time. And, I really really hope you all like it <3

Fractals shift at the corners of your eyes, dancing as a muted, living green begins to swirl through the fog. Jagged, rippling tentacles of lifestream energy reach out to you, hovering just above your skin. They snap and shudder, recoiling sharply when you try to touch them as they continue to beckon you closer. You don’t want to be here and you definitely don’t want to be here alone.
To start with, let's all have a laugh at how I thought I'd be able to fit:
Altar shenanigans, The Vision, Vincent breaking open the door, The Ribbon reveal, Him freaking out, Smut, Adventuring, and meeting the Turks, all in just one chapter lmaooooo. It took me 13k words and you'd think I would know better by now.
Anyway, the smut and everything else.
Firstly, Galian is still going to appear in the fic, don't ya'll worry about that. He did show up in the last chapter in my initial outline but I've changed it for various story reasons, essentially we swapped Galian for smut lol. There wasn't smut in the actual temple in my outline, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to show the 'quieting monsters' mechanic lol, and just show Vincent having a terrible time.
Initially while writing the sequence of him fighting back the transformation, I wanted to show hints of all of his monsters. Galian has fire, Gigas has electricity and Chaos is just Chaos but Hellmasker has poison/debuffs as an element, and I couldn't work out how to subtly get that working. In universe, he has more a of a sex pollen type affect lmao, but I couldn't work out how to show it. But, then I thought, hey Vincent unlocks his new limits through use/trauma and we're about at the time that Gigas could start showing up. So went with that instead.
Yes, Vincent would have become Gigas if he'd been allowed to transform, but there's also a reason why he becomes Galian later in the story, not Gigas. I want to stick with Re-trilogy canon for this story, so the other monsters won't actually appear until we get a design for them unfortunately. I'm sad about it too dw. Anyway, that would have been extra extra traumatic for him, especially while he's not actually in a battle so I'm glad that didn't happen.
So, onto the smut.
Our Reader quiets Vincent's monsters, this is something that has always been in the story, and comes up more in Vincent's pov but hasn't like, explicitly been acknowledged in the story I guess. My Vincent POV story is still early on, so Vincent is working out that they quiet from a smile, or proper character interaction. Obviously, because I'm a degenerate, the affect carries on with sex too. Now, Vincent says something like, "they quiet when you spill against me." That statement is not 100% correct but for all intents and purposes, it'll do lmao. The exact mechanism for this one won't be revealed in Infinite Abyss unfortunately, but it's fun and likely not what you're expecting it to be.
I always wanted to get a sex scene in at the Temple, but was never sure how to do it because Vincent is responsible and would never be so reckless lol. Except that he hates transforming, and i think the fact that he was even willing to do something so inappropriate and ridiculous in an unsafe place shows how much he really doesn't want to. Some character development and lore dumping there. It's funny to me because him saying "I don't care why you affect me and I don't care if I never find out," actually, technically quietened the monsters more than the sex, but dw about that lol.
Anyway. Ya'll next chapter is the big one and I am so excited to share it with you. Get hypeddddddd
Images flash before your eyes, out of focus like you’re flipping too quickly through a photobook. Moments and memories from your life race through your head, faded photographs that slowly change from sepia to colour. Sluggishly filling your vision they eventually flicker into full dimensionality. Your vision spikes at the edges, fuzzy and wrong as your head locks in place. Forced into stillness, you can’t move. Trapped, you’re compelled to watch whatever the planet insists on.
Praying that when DoC eventually gets a remaster or…remake..🥰 that they include DoC lost episode, just squish it riiighttt in between the dirge of Cerberus chapters where it would be, i adore the scene of him dancing and i need to see it in better quality
Nobody appreciates dirge of Cerberus as much as they should, but maybe my Vincent fan brain is a bit bias. I understand the criticisms against the game as a whole but for me personally none have ever stopped me from enjoying the game, i honestly find the combat rather fun, the different guns, the customisation aspect, the hand to hand portion of combat.
Not to mention i just love the voice acting, for a game that came out only what- eight? nine? years after the original final fantasy 7 it is absolutely delicious, vincent’s voice sounds great but i more so want to talk about lucrecias voice acting, I’ve had some disagreements with people over this but to me i feel like she harnesses so much emotion, the guilt lucrecia feels is definitely intense, and with the lines we got it really shows. I think my favourite instance of her voice acting being, amazing in my opinion is when she, vincent, and hojo are arguing about the je nova projects moral dilemmas, i actually eat it up everytime i replay Dirge and get to hear her yell that she’s sure about going ahead with it. I get genuine shivers.
Oh lucrecia… I yearn for her on the same level as Vincent, that’s another thing i want to get too actually, the way whenever things are going wrong Vincent zones out and remembers his turk days?? oh buddy the waterworks are going off 😭 I’m not sure if this was just me but i genuinely got a bit teary playing dirge because Vincent is so unbelievably sweet and was just used, horribly, it hurts my soul. And then seeing him absolutely yearn, die and be reborn still missing, wanting Lucrecia is heart breaking to me, as much as i love Lucrecia, oh she was a mess. Absolutely dragged Vincent into it all but my god he was willing, he loved that woman and let it kill him, even when he came back with four different creatures caged inside of his body he never stopped loving her.
I have such mixed emotions about lucrecia. I love and yearn for her as a character, she went through alot and had felt guilt for years after, but at the same time she has done so many horrible things, but i could never actually hate her.
