The smell of wet ink and fresh parchment lingered in your nose. Eyes trained painted edge wood table, admiring how the design curves and spirals around it. That's when you hear the rustling of fabric in front of you. Eyes darting to the noise to find Li Huaian sitting across from you, arms crossed as he patiently waited for you to pick up the brush.
Now that you think about it, you were the one who asked him to be here. Yet here you are, staring at the table instead of actually doing what you wanted. What did you want? Just to stare at Lord Li while you mess up your writing? Maybe talk his ears off until he decides he’s had enough? Maybe you just wanted to be in the same room as him.
You blinked, seeing his mouth move but not hearing what he said.
“Im sorry, I didn't hear what you said.”
Good start…
“You are free to start writing whenever. Unless you had questions before you started?”
He slightly cocked his head to the side, eyebrows raised a bit as he waited. Gosh, you lifted your arms, left hand going for the brush while the right grabbed at your orange sleeve keeping it from messing anything up.
“Oh no questions, my Lord. I was just distracted.” You wet the brush, placing your hand just like you remember and start writing the Hànzì. Your fingers pull the brush in the correct strokes, spacing them perfectly. It almost looked like it was written by a scholar.
Dapping the tip into the ink you paused, watching as the man in front of you wrote something of his own. Delicate fingers dragging and swaying the push in a fashion you’d only seen your own father have. The light blue sleeve being held back, the white and black underneath showing him, his pale skin disappearing within the fabric. You trailed up to his shoulder, the black and white collar laid perfectly and unmoved. His hair was perfectly tied back, not even a fray poking out. Then to the way he tried not to crease his eyebrows, everything was perfect. Polished and poised, it made you think of your own appearance. Looking down at your smudged ink on the tip of your finger, to the way your hair seemed to fall in just a way to tickle your neck, your silks felt disheveled. You’d been sitting here for far too long, and it’s definitely showing.
“Is something wrong?”
You jumped a bit, fingers loosing on the brush as it falls on the table and then rolls onto you. Frantically picking it, in hopes of not ruining the fine silk. He stood up fast, hands reaching in his pocket to pull out a handkerchief, before you knew it he was kneeled next to you, his own hands grabbing at the fabric and trying to dab it up. Moving to grab your own handkerchief caused him to accidently smear the black ink.
“Oh-”
“My-”
Speaking at the same time. ‘
“It’s okay. This was my least favorite 直裾袍.”
He looked up at you, almost distraught that you told him it was the least of your favorites. One he might have even secretly gifted you on a special occasion.
“That doesn’t matter. It still holds value, I'm sorry for ruining it.”
His hands were still lightly trying to get the wet ink that was closer to your chest. Soft and quick dabs that got higher and higher until he just stopped. A light blush on his cheeks as he looked away. His hands present you with the now ink spotted cloth. Your fingers grazed his as you slowly took it. Looking down and trying to fix it. He leaned back some, close enough where your knees still touched but he wasn't within a foot of your face, well your chest actually.
You just sighed, shoulders slumping as you looked up at him.
“I promise I didn’t bring you here to help clean up ink!”
He laughed a bit, shaking his head as he reached for your hand.
“Even if that was the case, I’d still show up.”
His touch felt like the heat from a fire. Warm but so inviting you were failing to fight the need to hold it back.
His eyes read over what was your letter of admiration for someone, but it now was splattered. You grab back at his hand, hoping it would take him away from the first sentence, but it doesn’t. If anything it makes him feel bolder to continue. Onyx eyes taking in every single word, how bold of you to write such a letter to him when he is right in front of you.
He turned back to you, only to find you already looking at him, almost embarrassily. He smiles, placing his other hand over yours in reassurance.
“Such things do not need to be written to be expressed, My prized Carnelian.”
You don’t say anything, too taken aback by the nickname. Grip tightening on his hand, while the other bunch the fabric of your dress into a fist.
“For once I wish to write something for you, not the other way around.”
You try to look away in a pout, but he grabs your chin and pulls you back to look at him. You watch as his smile changes to a smirk and his eyes flicker from your eyes down to your lips and then back. The wind must have been strong in the room, before you know it you're both leaning in, lips connecting in a passionate kiss. Not a peck or touch, not a full kiss. One that you two are only allowed to share in private. It lingers longer than any other, almost like he was starved of you for far too long.
His hand soon finds its way to the crook of your neck, pulling you further into him. You grab at his shoulder, as if he was gonna disappear any second now.
It was abrupt, the call of his name from his bodyguard and the russel of the fabric covering the doorway. You both pulled back, hands never leaving each other.
“My Lord-”
“Yes?”
He bowed, an attempt to not stare or see what was happening.
“There is a visitor waiting for you outside… I will tell them you are busy. My apolo-”
He sighed.
“No need, I’ll see to them now.”
“Yes, My Lord.”
The frightened man quickly left the room. Li looked at you, pulling your back into him. Your chin rests on his shoulder, the fabric fine and silk-like under you.
“I will send the tailor to you, to replace your dress. Do not worry about anything else.”
“Its just a-”
He pulled away, giving a ‘what did i just say’ look before smiling and squeezing your hand one last time. He stood, moving a stray hair out your face and behind your ear.

SFW BELOW THE CUT ->
Your heart thrums with the nervous excitement of doing something wrong. Each article of clothing you turn over within the dresser drawer seems to increase the intensity of your frenzy as you give up and turn to the wicker hamper in the corner. There is nothing inherently wrong with your actions—you know Matt would let you rifle through any of his belongings if you asked, but not without asking the perfect questions to unravel any of your plans.
There it is. That glorious red fabric you had spent an entire Christmas party practically seething at for clinging to his broad chest so perfectly was in your grasp now. You had mourned it just as quickly as you decided you loathed it once you reckoned how it would waste away until next year—if he even chose to wear the silly slogan again. This was without a doubt not something you could not leave up to fate. You would find the brand, order a dozen colors of plainer prints, and for any opportunity that presented itself—give them to your devilishly handsome boyfriend. His birthday, a work trip, a case gone well—anything, as long as you saw that knit stretching across his skin deliciously again.
"Find anything interesting?" Devilishly handsome—and far too stealthy boyfriend.
You whip around, face immediately hot with the shame of being caught red-handed.
"O-oh, hi Matt." You smile, releasing the sweater to fall back to the hamper.
He looks good in everything he wears, and today was no different. After closing the drawer you had dug through, he leans against it—no doubt preening a bit under your gaze by the way he tilts his head and smirks down at you.
"Hi, sweetheart," he says simply, baritone filled with amusement.
You feel your face flush more, as if it were possible.
"Just doing some laundry," you say sweetly to cover your embarrassment as you place your hands on his muscled shoulders and kiss his jaw.
"I didn't realize that was such a stressful task." His brows furrowed with concern, but his voice maintained its playfulness.
"Are you listening for my heart again?" You smack his arm lightly, stepping back to grab the hamper and leave. Before you can, wide palms find your hips and pull you right back in front of him.
"I can't exactly turn it off, you know." The vigilante kissed your forehead before cupping your face in one of his rough but warm hands. "Now, what was in that hamper that has you so bothered?"
You sputter. "Nothing."
"Not exactly convincing, my dear." He mused affectionately.
Sorry, I just couldn't help myself from drooling over your arms, your chest, your back, your everything in that absurd Christmas sweater so I need to see you in it again—is that what you were supposed to say? Not a chance.
"Was it my sweater?"
"I-how? No." You blank.
His smirk only widened. "I told you, I can't turn it off."
"Oh." The entire holiday party then—you feel lightheaded.
"I admit, I do focus on your heart a little more than anyone else's." Your boyfriend kisses your open mouth gently, thumb tenderly tracing your cheekbone. "Especially when it's under that little outfit you had on." He pulls away with a smirk, his thick arm sliding around your waist. "Though, I think I might prefer feeling it beat under my fingers…"
Warning: mention of nudes, and sligt spicy at the end

Your fingers skimmed through the large stsck of papers, reading of names in your head. You'll find something interesting in Gustave's office weither it be top secret or just regular files on patients. You knew you weren't supposed to be snooping, but with all the chores and everyday task being completed, you figured a little looking wouldn't hurt anyone. Not even the Dr. Kateb. You've been through every single drawer, cabinet and even minalla file. Nothing of to much interest, but there was one last place to look, a locked drawer on the bottom of the black filing cabinet.
You bent over two fingers latching onto the cold metal handle and giving a soft but strong enough tug. Not even a budge, you sighed. Standing straight up and looking for where ever Kateb could hind this key. Feet carrying you towards the plush leather office chair, you ploped down. giving the chair a spin in your wake before pulling yourself towards the large desk. Opening the small keyboard spot you were met with a calender, a month behind, paper clips, cards, spare plastic medicine cups and rubber bands. You hummed, shifting through the piles beforehearing the jingle of something familar. A rig of keys. The WolfGuard insignia shinning back at you with three keys.
Your soft eyes darting up to find the unopened medicine cabinet, uninterested you looked else where, a laerge metal rack holding his uniform and gear, then the last key on the ring. The bottom drawer that remainded locked. Unopened to prying eyes and well your nosy little ones. You swiftly moved, finding yourself on the floor with one leg folded under you while the other stretched out. your fingers tugged the key up, pushig the rest and he insignia to dangle from the ring. Sliding the key in you smiled, the cold metal causing a light clicking noise that could be heard over the a/c uit above. It turned, allowing your two fingers to lock and pull the silver handle towards you. Your eyes laid on the objects hiden away. A minallla folder, metal lunch box and a few random folded pieces of paper that looked awfully familair.
You started with the smaller items first. The folded papers slotted towards the back. A dull red lipstick stain pressed onto the white paper. Your's from your first ever 'love letter' you'd given him the next was another letter, a picture hidden between the folds. Your manicured nails grabed at it, pulling it from its confinds. It was of you two, a poloroid you'd taken right after your first time with him. The date and place written on the bottom, with the words "My very first taste of the Dr. Kateb."
You smiled, sliding the picture back into it letter and placed them back where you found them. your fingers migrated over towards the minalla file. Your name written in his beautiful hand writting smack dab in the middle. your opened it, medical files, mission recods and basically everything he would need to know if something was to happen to you. That is if he doesn't already know everything. The papers were extentsive, documnting the reason, time and date, place and who all went with you. It was almost suprising.
But not suprising… You placed it back, finaly gretting to the metal box. Yiu pushed the drawer shut, placing the box in your lap chris cross. Your nails raking at the latchs until it opned. A pile of small pictures printed out, they were all of you, naked, half clothed, in this very office. but one thing was always present. A look of pur bliss and Kateb's large hand on your hip. Your face flushed remembering him saying something about not keeping the photos he waws taking of you. You tummy got warm and your core tightened. How coud a man of class such as him keep such lewd pictures.
"Ahem!"
You head snpped looking towards the man of the hour in the doorway. Button up slevees rolled up his arms and blue latex gloves on. He was perfect, mouth wateringly perfect.
"Having fun snooping around?"
You cleared your throat, blinking twice before standing up with the box.
"I thought you got rid of these, sir."
"Originally, yes. but after a while i started keeping them. It gets so lonely with out you here sometimes."
His voice dropping as he approched you. Your senses heightening as a large and found its way to your waist. You just hummed, putting the box on the desk before fully giving him whatever attention you had left.
"And what is it you do with these photos, Dr. Kateb?"

NSFW BELOW THE CUT ->
The heat swatched across your cheeks only worsened like a stoked flame as Varka’s hand—the one not wrapped around your middle to keep your arms tucked to your side—dipped below your waistband. A flutter turned your stomach, and all you could do was keep your lips tight so as not to sputter.
“I’ve been thinking about this all day.” Varka chuckled to himself. “Thinking about you.”
His body, tall and muscled, curled around yours as your legs fumbled. The tips of his fingers were over your panties now. With a gentle pace, he began tracing circles over the sensitive flesh while you gaped with a burning face. In your blazing shame, you looked down. His boots bracketed your smaller feet on the hardwood floor of his office, but any interest you could have feigned in his choice of footwear quickly faded once your gaze fell to witness what was certainly a violation of the Favonius code of conduct between your thighs. Your eyes briefly focused on his uncharacteristically barren desk. Poor Jean must have had all his work dumped at her desk.
His chin, once on the top of your head in what would have been a near infantilizing position if you could think of or feel anything but him, moved to the crook of your neck. His voice dropped, husky with each word spoken only for you. “Tell me you’ve been thinking of me, too.”
You made the mistake of glancing at him. His pale eyes had gone dark, the icy blue obscured by blown pupils and his lips curled into a grin the moment your gaze fell upon him. He took the opportunity to kiss you.
Varka could be trusted with so much—the nation, the knights, and handling any and all conflicts that consumed the former. What he could not be trusted with was to keep his hands off of you and his affections for you to himself.
As his lips found yours in a feverish motion of a man starved, his deft fingers slipped under the final layer separating the two of you. Gasping into his mouth and writhing against him in your stimulation you achieved nothing but giving him an excuse to curl his larger body around you further and offer him something to chuckle at when you broke for air.
“I guess I least know you are happy to see me, aren’t you?” He smirked, handsome face far too close for your unraveling sanity. His arm loosened around your middle, allowing your hands to move freely as he adjusted your rear to press against the growing warmth below his belt. Your right hand immediately found his similarly-handed wrist—torn between pulling his warm hand out of your pants and grasping it tight enough in an impossible attempt of physically overpowering the warrior to keep him against your heat. Your other hand found his left forearm, and with the nails digging into his leather bracer as leverage you pushed yourself back to lean your head against the Grandmaster’s broad shoulder and kiss his jaw as he reached to palm your chest.
“Please don’t stop,” you breathlessly and near desperately whispered, never pulling away enough to stop your lips from brushing against his jaw with each syllable. You met his gaze with purpose this time, grinding your hips back into his.
Varka’s smirk faltered for a moment as he groaned, glinting eyes never leaving yours. “As long as you keep looking at me like that, I won’t even dream of it.” He promised with a pleased hum in his throat that vibrated through his chest against your back, his thumb swiping across your clit as his mouth captured yours in another kiss. You shivered, but the hand roughly groping at your chest only pulled you in tighter. His own excitement was more than evident, resting against your backside. You whined.
Was it for his intolerably irresistible ministrations against your heat? Was it because you wanted all of him? You did not know and were not of the mind to care–too close to your climax to do anything but babble his name and buck into his hand with eyes fluttering shut. Until the source of your pleasure retreated from your pants.
“Wha..?” You breathlessly protested.
Varka huffed a laugh. “You’re so cute like this. It only makes me want to give you more.”
You looked away ruefully, face painfully hot and legs twitching. “I could’ve been cute and satisfied if you would’ve kept going.”
“What kind of husband would I be if I didn't stay true to my word? Or worse, if I didn’t please you the best way I know how?” Varka smiled against your ear, releasing your chest to grab your face. His other hand pulled on your hip to turn your body to him.
"Do you want it?" He asked, voice low.
"Of course, I do." You swallowed, trying to shake the thoughts of what was to come for the sake of the ache between your legs as you faced him.
He gently kissed you once you oriented yourself, no hunger or lust evident despite the obvious pressure against the soft flesh of your lower stomach as he pulled you close. Your hands cupped his cheeks before entwining behind his neck to deepen the embrace. He took the nearness as an invitation and leaned in to lift your thighs to his hips before placing you on the edge of his desk.
“Here?” You shifted, the seam of your pants offering little relief.
“I can’t leave you unsatisfied, can I?” Varka winked, hands making quick work of his belt.
“Ugh…” you groaned, hands covering your face as you leaned into his chest to hide.
“Don’t be shy now,” he grinned. “This is a duty I’ll fulfill any day.”
You lifted your head and looked up at Varka through your fingers, “and presumably any time you can dump your work on Jean?”
Varka blanched at that. “...Ha.”
“You’re lucky you’re our nation’s hero.” You giggled.
"I think I'm more lucky you married me." He smiled, pressing his forehead to yours.

You wake to the smell of breakfast and the sound of someone breathing steadily into your ear.
Lacie’s wrapped around you like a koala bear, legs and arms circling you like she’s afraid you’ll roll out of bed. She’s always been a clingy sleeper, ever since she was a child. As a kid, you’d open your eyes to see her hand clasping yours so tightly, you were surprised she didn’t break any bones. You’d simply smile and drift back off to your dreams, happily content that she was always seeking you out, even subconsciously.
“That smells so fucking good.”
It’s murmured into the bare skin of your shoulder, making both of you laugh. The sound of your shared amusement is slow and syrupy, both of your voices coated with sleep.
“Morning,” you whisper, leaning in to rest your head on top of Lacie’s. “How did you sleep?”
“Like a baby,” she murmurs back, trying to keep the volume low so as not to disturb the peace. “This bed is so comfortable. Always has been.”
“I miss it now I have my own place. My new bed is okay, but nothing compares to this one.”
“Maybe it’s all the memories it holds. Makes it softer.”
You chuckle, shaking your head gently.
“Oh, yeah. That’ll be what it is.”
“Knew it.”
She stretches like a cat next to you while you rub the tiredness from your eyes, both of you adjusting to the morning light.
“What time is it?”
“Ten thirty.”
“I definitely thought you were about to say two in the afternoon or something,” she chuckles. “Also thought I’d be hungover as hell when I woke up.”
“Maybe it was the tea that we drank before bed. Or all the crying. Counterbalanced the alcohol.”
She snorts, squeezing you tightly as she remembers your conversation from last night.
“For sure. There’ll be science behind that.”
“Oh, yeah. Definitely.”
You’re both shaking with laughter when there’s a knock on the door, both of you sitting up in bed.
“Come in!”
“Good morning my girls,” your Mom half sings as she walks in and opens the curtains to let the day in.
The melody of her voice, the words she’s saying, her waking the two of you up after going to bed too late at a sleepover… it’s like being twelve again.
“There’s breakfast on the table, thought you might be hungry after your exciting night last night. You know, drinking tea on the porch at one in the morning, all that crazy stuff you got up to.”
She can’t help but chuckle to herself as both of you do the same, amused by the familiarity of it all.
“There’s pancakes, fruit, toast and cereal. And pineapple juice for you, Lacie.”
“My favourite,” she coos. “You remembered.”
“Won’t ever forget it,” your Mom responds, pinching your best friend’s cheek like she did when you were first graders. “Now come and eat before it goes cold.”

Breakfast is divine - which is absolutely no surprise to anyone.
“You wanna stick around here today, Lace?”
“Wish I could. I’ve got a couple of afternoon clients, but the first isn’t until one thirty, thankfully.”
“You sure you can’t stay?” you ask, hating how your voice makes you sound like you’re six years old again.
“Sorry babe. But you know where I am if you need me. Pop by the salon anytime, okay? I could use an assistant.”
You laugh, both of you knowing you’d most likely be terrible at that job role.
“Thanks for being here last night,” you say as you grab her hand atop the table. “I needed it.”
“So did I,” she replies as she squeezes your fingers. “More than I even realised.”
“You girls want to join me today?”
Your Mom pokes her head around the door frame, looking at you both with a gentle smile.
“I can’t, but thanks for the offer, Lori. I’ve got clients later. But she will,” Lacie nudges you with her foot probably a bit harder than intended, giggling as she does it.
“I will, Mama.”
“Okay sweet girls. Have a good day at work, Lacie. Don’t be a stranger, alright? We’ve missed you around here.”
“I’ve missed you guys too. You’ll regret saying that - I’m about to be here twenty four seven.”
Your Mom chuckles as she leaves, the sound of it clinking off the glasses of pineapple juice that you’re both still drinking.
“Seriously babe. You need anything, just ask. I’ll be here, no matter what.”
“Thank you. You’re the best, and I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“You never have to know.”
Lacie leaves in a cloud of expensive perfume and vanilla scented body butter, off to go make peoples hair related dreams come true all day.
“I’ve got some errands to run,” your Mom says as you’re standing at the front door, waving to your best friend as she walks down the street. “Be my passenger? I’ll pay you in coffee.”
“Let’s do it.”

All five of your senses are catered for as you walk around the market, soaking in all of the sensations. There’s mothers pushing their babies in strollers, elderly couples strolling leisurely, children running around buzzing with excitement. It’s alive, with sounds and smells and new sights wherever you turn.
The sun beats down, cooled slightly by the gentle breeze that whips around between the stalls. It’s a glorious day, not a cloud in the sky. It’s making you feel hopeful, more joyous than yesterday.
“Sweetheart, will you grab me some fruit from the guy in the corner while I get some bread? Pick whatever looks good.”
“Sure Mama.”
You part in different directions, making the journey towards the most colourful stand at the market. The fruits are vibrant tones of pink and orange and yellow, bright and fresh and completely irresistible.
“What do you have that’s in season?” you ask the guy behind the boxes, a redhead probably about the same age as you are.
He’s objectively handsome - freckles, cheeky smile, tall and muscular. He looks at you for a moment before holding out a peach.
“Right now is the peak time for peaches. I promise these will be the best ones you’ve ever had in your life.”
“In my entire life?” you question, hint of mischief in your voice.
“Want me to prove it?”
“Go ahead.”
He picks up a knife and carefully cuts around the pit, before tearing into the peach and handing one half to you.
“You’re not ready for it,” he teases.
“I’ll be the judge of that.”
You bite into it, juice running readily down your wrist as you do. And as much as you hate to admit it - it’s divine.
“Say it.”
“Hmm?”
“Tell me it’s the best peach you’ve ever had.”
“Well then I’d be lying.”
His face falls for a fraction of a second before he regains his confidence like nothing ever happened.
“Confess. Come on.”
“Fine, fine. It’s the best peach I’ve ever had. In my entire life.”
“I knew it!” he grins, satisfied. “Knew a pretty girl like you wouldn’t lie to me.”
“I thought about it.”
“Oh, I know.”
He stares at you for a moment too long, taking in your features with his green eyes.
“Do you have a soulmate, peach?”
You’re processing the new nickname for a second when your Mom appears behind you, answering the question.
“Yes, she does. A complicated one.”
“Ah,” he laughs. “The best kind, no?”
“Depends on the day,” you smile, shaking your head. “Mama, we have to buy a dozen of these peaches. They’ll be the best you’ve ever had.”
The man winks at you before throwing some into a paper bag for you, along with raspberries, strawberries and oranges at your request.
“Thank you for these,” you say as you’re paying.
“Anytime. See you around, peach!”
“Oh he likes you,” your Mom all but sings as you both walk away. “You’re Tethered and you’re still attracting all the boys.”
“One guy at the fruit stall, not all the boys.”
“Sure, sweetheart. Sure.”
Your Mom hasn’t talked about your Tethering before. Neither of your parents have. It hasn’t been spoken about since that day your Dad was in the hospital. She’s mentioning it so easily, so casually, anyone would think that you’d all had a comprehensive conversation about it.
“Coffee now?” she asks, breaking you out of your thoughts.
“How about matcha? For a change?”
“Ooo, yes! I’ve heard that place on the corner does all different flavours. Clara at work had a blueberry one the other day.”
“Think I might stick to vanilla. You’re more adventurous than me.”
“Always have been,” she winks, bashing into you with her shoulder cheekily.
You can’t argue with that.

The coffee shop has a beautiful deck with an ocean view out back, perfect for sitting and gossiping with your Mom in the sunshine. The two of you catch up like no time has passed, patching over the disconnect that has crept into your relationship recently. You both know it’s no one’s fault - life just gets in the way sometimes.
There’s a pause in conversation, and you decide it’s now or never to ask the question that’s been on your mind for a while.
“Mama?”
“Sweetheart?”
“Why haven’t you guys tried to talk to me about the whole soulmate situation sooner?”
She thinks for a moment, carefully considering what she wants to say.
“Did you want us to?”
“No. Yes. Maybe? Honestly, I don’t know. But the three of us have always talked about everything, and now all of a sudden we’re silent when it comes to anything to do with my Tethering. It’s just unusual is all.”
“When your Dad and I first figured it out, I wanted to speak to you straight away. I thought we’d tackle the topic immediately, right? I think maybe I was a little upset that you hadn’t mentioned it - it’s such a huge milestone, arguably the biggest one in your entire life. And then Jack slowed me down, and helped me think a little more rationally.”
“He’s good at that,” you whisper.
“The best,” she smiles. “He figured that there must have been a reason that you didn’t say anything to us - that you were probably working things out for yourselves. So we kept quiet. It’s not that I didn’t want to talk to you, it’s that we felt like it was best that we didn’t until you were ready.”
“So you weren’t just… ignoring the problem until it went away?”
“There’s no problem in my eyes, sweet girl. Just two people going through something they’ve never experienced before.”
You take a deep breath, willing the weight you’ve been carrying around to be lifted from your shoulders.
“I’m sorry I didn’t talk to you sooner,” you murmur. “It’s not because I didn’t want to.”
“I know, baby. I know.”
She grabs your hand across the table, just like Lacie did this morning. How lucky you feel to be surrounded by such gentle, golden hearted women. What a gift.
“Can I ask you a question, sweetheart?”
You nod, urging her to go ahead.
“Did something happen? The last couple of days, you’ve seemed a little… down. And Bucky hasn’t been around, and it all feels… unusual? Like something’s changed, maybe.”
It feels like she can see into your soul when she looks at you, staring right through any kind of facade you try to put up. You’re begging yourself not to start crying again, sick of the sensation of tears falling down your face.
“We, uh - it’s a long story and it’s complicated but uh… where to begin-”
“Hey, you’re okay. If you don’t want to talk about it, you don’t have to. If you’re not ready, then-”
“It’s not that I’m not ready, it’s that I don’t even know where to start. I’m so confused about everything and I don’t even know how to even begin to put it into words that are somewhat comprehensible and I just… I don’t even know.”
The birds chirp above your heads, a million and one conversations happening around you on the deck as the two of you exist in your own little bubble for the moment.
“Give me the facts. Just the bare basics of it.”
“I don’t know if I know him, Mama.”
“Hmm?”
She looks completely puzzled, but she’s trying to stay focused on getting some cohesive answers out of you.
“There’s so much I don’t know about him. It hit me all at once the other day, and now I just… don’t know where we stand.”
She thinks for a second, measured and careful.
“What do you feel like you don’t know?”
“So many things. He never told me he had a sister, and then you and Dad mentioned her and-”
“Oh honey, I’m sorry. If I’d known you didn’t know-”
“No no, it’s fine. You didn’t do anything wrong, I promise. That was just the catalyst to me realising that I think we might have done this whole thing in the completely wrong order.”
“You know, there isn’t necessarily a right order.”
“I know that, but still. We’re all twisted and backwards now. Feels like we’re facing in the wrong direction.”
Your Mom rubs circles into the back of your hand with her thumb, keeping you grounded.
“You’re allowed to have a honeymoon phase, you know. Most soulmates have them. Some last longer than others, yes, but they’re not unusual. You’re wrapped up in your little bubble of love and excitement and sometimes confusion - it’s hard to see outside of that.”
“But surely there’s a difference between a honeymoon phase and obliviousness.”
She exhales her deep breath, sighing as she does it.
“You’re right.”
“I am?”
“Yes. You often are. Trust yourself more.”
“I do, I just… This is the one area of my life where I really do feel completely clueless.”
“And you hate it.”
“And I hate it.”
You take a long sip of your drink, looking out over the ocean and letting the repetition of the waves crashing against the rocks calm your racing heart.
“You wanna know what I think the solution is?”
“Tell me, Mama.”
“I think you need to go right back to the beginning, and work on everything you skipped over. Date each other again. You’ve gone too deep too fast and now you’re struggling to swim. So take yourselves back to the shallow end, put your floaties on, and start afresh. Not completely afresh obviously, but as much as you possibly can.”
“I like your water metaphors. Very fitting.”
She laughs all silvery and melodic as she kicks your foot under the table in retaliation.
“You know what I mean,” she teases.
“I do.”
“Good. The two of you need to get to know each other again - this time without worrying about getting caught or keeping the entire thing a secret. You can just be, now. Be completely as you are. No pressure, no worrying. Just you and your soulmate.”
You digest every single one of her words, knowing instantly that she’s right. There may not be a magic solution to your situation, but she’s found one that’s damn close.
“I like that idea,” you say eventually. “And if we both go into it with open hearts, promising to be completely honest, then we can’t go wrong, right?”
“Exactly. It’s all about keeping open hearts and minds. Both of you.”
“I’ll talk to him about it later. Or maybe tomorrow. Whenever I’m ready.”
“There’s no rush, sweet girl. Take your time.”
You inhale a lungful of the salty seaside air and take a moment to breathe. You’re going to be just fine. Both of you.
Your Mom stands up suddenly, grabbing her bag as she does it.
“I’m in the mood to wander around that street full of little boutiques around the corner. They all have new window displays in and you know I can’t resist.”
“Then let’s do it,” you encourage as you trail after her, almost running to keep up. “Retail therapy might be just what I need.”
“That’s the spirit!” she laughs as she grabs your hand to pull you along. “You are your mother’s daughter.”
“Always,” you grin. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Your Mom manages to distract you for the rest of the afternoon with hours of shopping and leisurely browsing, neither of you in a rush to be anywhere. It’s exactly what you needed - rare, precious time with your favourite woman in the world. Just the two of you.
It’s when you’re sitting in your apartment later on that evening that you realise the days activities haven’t cured your sadness - only masked it temporarily.
Suddenly, the walls feel like they’re too close, the colours surrounding you too vibrant, the lights too bright. You take a deep breath and dig your fingers into the couch cushion, willing yourself to stay grounded. There’s a ball of anxiety in your chest, swirling around and slamming itself into your ribcage, your heart thrumming nervously underneath it, fighting to be heard.
You need to get out.
You need air. You need the wind whipping across your face, you need the sea salt on your lips, you need the birds squawking above your head.
You shove your feet into some shoes and grab a hoodie, throwing it on and grabbing your keys simultaneously. Practically sprinting down the stairs, you push the front door open with far more force than necessary, striding down the sidewalk with more momentum than you thought you could muster. Your legs are carrying you where they know you need to go - even if your mind can’t comprehend where that may be.
You turn the corner, and feel the sidewalk change to sand beneath you.
Inhaling deeply, you revel in the ocean breeze rattling through your bones and the chill it brings. It’s a welcome feeling. You’re right where you need to be.
You realise that you can’t even remember the journey to get here. It’s as if the Universe grabbed your hand and pulled, dragging you exactly where it wanted you to be. You venture onto the beach, heading towards the cove that’s tucked away, sinking familiarly with every step.
You turn your head, and realise suddenly why the Universe wanted you to be right here, right now.
Sitting on the sand, knees tucked into his body, barefoot and windswept.
Bucky.
He feels your presence before he sees you, even from across the beach. His head whips around to find you perfectly on the first try, eyes locked on you standing too far away for his liking. But he doesn’t move. He wants you to determine this interaction. If you walk away, still asking for space, he’ll give it to you. If you run into his arms and never let him go, he’ll hold onto you. It’s your choice. Not his.
“Hi,” you whisper, sound stolen by the wind. He hears it clear as day.
“Hi, honey girl.”
You’re a hundred feet apart and speaking in hushed tones as if you’re right next to each other, the Universe doing all the heavy lifting in your communication.
“Can I join you?”
“Always,” he says without hesitating. “You don’t ever have to ask.”
You make your way over slowly, trepidation weighing down every step. You’re not scared to see him. You’re scared of what you’re going to feel. You’re scared your heart will betray you and you’ll crumble into him, that you’ll let him kiss you stupid like nothing ever happened.
Sitting on the sand a few feet away, you try not to get lost in the deep, sky blue pools of his eyes that are watching every single minuscule movement you make. You get comfortable, tucking your knees into your chest and holding onto them for stability. Mirroring each other absentmindedly, as always.
Both of you sit and listen to the repetitive crash of the ocean waves against the shore, soothing and grounding. It’s been the soundtrack to so many of your milestones, so many of your important moments.
Bucky’s the first to break the silence. You’re not entirely sure what to say.
“How’d you know I was here?”
“I didn’t. I got a little overwhelmed in my apartment and decided I needed to take a walk. Ended up here.”
“The damn Universe.”
“Yeah. Damn her.”
There’s an inkling of a smile threatening to break across his face, but he tampers it down, stoic again in an instant.
“Are you okay?”
You take a deep breath, considering your answer carefully.
“No. But I will be. Time heals all wounds, right?”
“Is that what this is? A wound?”
“I don’t know,” you exhale. “It feels like one.”
“And I caused it.”
“Not necessarily. We have joint responsibility here. I just…”
You’re trying to find the right words to explain yourself without making the rift in between you worse. You realise quickly that you need to be entirely honest - and if the distance gets wider, then that’s a necessary pain.
“You’ve upset me, Buck. And I can’t sit here and lie and pretend you haven’t.”
“I don’t want you to lie to me. I never do. No matter how bad you think it is, or how much you think it’ll hurt me.”
You nod, half in agreement and half to stop yourself from bursting into tears.
“I’ve spent the last few days debating everything,” you say with a shake in your voice. “I want you to know that no matter what… it’s always going to be you, Buck. You are my soulmate for a reason. I love you with every single fibre of my being.”
“I love you so much,” he chokes out, eyes welling up with emotion. “I wouldn’t want to be Tethered to any other person in this entire world. Only you.”
You nod again, chewing on your lip to try and keep yourself together. You feel like you’re falling apart at the seams, held together only by the clothes on your body.
Taking another breath as deep into your lungs as you can, you exhale it shakily before hugging your legs as tightly as you can.
“I think I need to take a step back from this.”
The words leave your mouth before you can stop them, but you know that they’ve come from your heart. You mean it - but that doesn’t lessen the hurting.
“From us,” you continue. “You are the only person I will ever want. You are my entire life, James Buchanan Barnes. That is exactly the point. We will be together for the rest of our lives - and I cannot wait for that. That guarantee of us, forever, means that we don’t have to rush. We can take our time. And right now, I really need to take my time.”
He nods, encouraging you to continue. There are tears silently falling down his face, and you can feel the sadness and the longing rolling off of him in waves. You want to squeeze him as tightly as you can and never let go, but you know you have to stand your ground here.
“I need space, Buck. Space and time. I’m just completely overwhelmed. I need to get my priorities in check, too. I need to start really putting focus into the bakery franchise to make it the best it can be. Stella asked me if I was alright when we were on the phone a few days ago, and it made me realise that if she can tell - from the other side of the country, and just by my voice - that somethings wrong, then I need to just… take a breath.”
“I’m sorry you’re feeling overwhelmed,” he says, voice cracking with the emotion of it all. “I know that a Tethering can be all consuming and intense on the best of days. And I think that I was aware that it was a lot for you, and so I tried to keep everything as chilled and low pressure as possible - which in turn, has come back to bite me.”
“Is… that what happened here? Why we seemed to have gone from zero to a hundred really fast, but I somehow feel like I don’t know you at the same time?”
“I think so. I’ve been giving it a lot of thought these past few days, after that morning on the boat. I hated seeing you upset and I hated that I couldn’t fix it there and then.”
You give in to your instincts and reach for his hand, intertwining your fingers and resting them on the sand in between you.
“I know,” you whisper. “I could feel it in my chest. All the sadness and regret and confusion.”
“I could feel it too - the betrayal and the upset and the anger that you were feeling.”
“I wasn’t angry at you, Buck-”
“You were, honey. And that’s okay. You were allowed to be angry at me. You are allowed to be angry at me.”
You nod gently - the slightest of movements, almost imperceptible to anyone but your soulmate.
“I think I was so worried about it all being too much for you that I started holding stuff back. Not in a bad way, but just so that I didn’t overwhelm you. Stories from my childhood and about my mother and sister aren’t exactly light entertainment most of the time. We were figuring stuff out, and I didn’t want it to get too heavy. I didn’t withhold anything on purpose, sweet girl. I promise. It just happened. I’ll tell you anything you want to know.”
“That’s not the point,” you find yourself saying. “I don’t want to sit here and quiz you about your family tree and growing up in New York, Buck. It’s supposed to come up naturally, not because I’ve asked you twenty questions at once.”
“I know.”
“I’m sorry,” you say at the same time. “I didn’t mean to snap. I think I’m still a little angry. Which I shouldn’t be, because you’ve explained yourself.”
“You’re allowed to feel what you feel.”
You hum, squeezing his fingers in between yours. You’re not sure who you’re trying to comfort, yourself or your soulmate.
The wind picks up, as if she’s telling you that it’s time to go home. You shiver, the icy ocean breeze whipping around you and settling into your bones.
“Come on, it’s getting dark.”
Bucky rises and pulls you with him, brushing the sand off your pants for you in gentle sweeping motions. He does it without thinking, so accustomed to the little gestures.
“Can I walk you home?”
You should say no, tell him that the space begins now and that you can’t automatically fall back into old routines. Instead, you say,
“Please.”
He hasn’t let go of your hand yet, very aware that he doesn’t know when the next time he’ll get to hold it is.

No one speaks the entire way home.
Neither of you mention that you can both feel the big blue waves of sadness coursing through your chests, unsure if it’s coming from yourself or the other person.
Neither of you mention that Bucky walks you the long way, adding a good twenty extra minutes to your journey.
Neither of you mention that when he hugs you goodbye, he holds you so tight that you can’t breathe for a second.
You’re not sure why, but this feels like the end of something.
Bucky feels it too.

You don't know how long you’ve been stuck in this god-for-saken hotel, but you can’t count the amount of times you’ve tried to escape. He wants to give you special privileges, the ability to walk around, enjoy yourself without being watched by his eyes. You’ve proven you are not worthy of that for the past 20 times he’s tried. You always end up falling through those magical doors. Every. Single. Time. It wasn’t until he left you in the room for so long you thought you’d go crazy. Your nails chipped and cracked from trying to claw the window and door open. You’ve picked up a chair and thrown it at the widow so many times but it's like you are in a rubber room. Nothing breaks but you on mental, and that's exactly what he wants. He can feel your hopelessness when he's out doing those rituals. Gone but never truly leaving you by yourself. You’re finally getting where he wants you, lost and fearful of being left to rot in this room. So when he returns, there's a spark of hope in your eyes. A spark that lights his "Fledgling God" soul on fire. You're no longer alone, he’s returned and this time he had a bag with him. That same smile he wore and those glowing blue eyes. He turned to lock the door behind him, the jingle of his keys kept you waiting for his next move. Which was simple, he walked to hand out a bag of food. The grease started to darken the brown bag at the bottom.
“My apologies, the rituals have taken more of my time than I expected.”
He said, standing a bit away from you. An arm around his back and then the other straight down at his side. You slowly move to open the bag, revealing the food. Grumbles coming from your stomach, this is your first time seeing food in a long time. You guessed he just now remembering you have to eat to live, and dying doesn't seem to be the outcome he wants. Your hands pull the food out of the bag, starting to take in the greasy, almost cold food. The door of your room closing and being locked was the last “interaction” you and the Doorman had for a long time.
Yes, the hotel room is boring. No, the TV doesn't work, but at least there is running water. Fresh towels in the bathroom and enough stuff for you to at least relax and unstiffen your muscles. You were worried about closing but that's nothing you could fix with some water and a thin amount of soap. You stood in front of the sink, the large fancy boarded mirror showing your sleep deprived face, your skin was turning a bit pale looking, and your hair was almost as greasy as the food you ate. You felt and looked like shit, your appearance looked like you’ve been here for months, and it truly feels like it's only been a few weeks to a month.
Your hand reached to turn the bath on, warm water splashing into the porcelain white tub. You pulled your underwear off and filled the sink with the hottest water you could get your hands on. Put a little bit of liquid soap in there and let it sit. Hopefully this is the start of clean underwear. Maybe you could ask him to bring you a few things so living is a bit easier. You shook your head, that would mean actually talking and being nice to the “thing” that got you trapped here. Your hands worked the soap into the cloth, eyes staring into the suds and water. The shine of bright blue eyes caught out the corner of your eye. Your head snaps to the right, but they are gone. The only thing there was the ugly wallpaper of the hotel room. Your own heartbeat takes over in your ears. You pull your hands out of the water. Grabbing the heavy door and pushing it too. It doesn’t fully close, just enough to let out the hot air but closed to where you weren’t seeing out. This puts you at ease, slipping off your shirt and going left foot into the warm water. All of a sudden you are calling yourself crazy for thinking someone was there, let alone He was there.
The warm feeling of water all around your body took over your eyes closing and a sigh coming from you. The steam wafting your face in just the right way drains all the tension out. Shoulder slumping and your poster going further down. You almost fell asleep, eyes slowly opening as an unsettling feeling replaces your pleasant mood. You stared at the door, it's still in the same potion it was in when you got in. Nothing was out of the ordinary, you chalked it up to craziness, just like before. Eyes closing again, but then you saw it, in the mirror. Through the crack of the door, he stood. Eye wide as he watched your reflection of the larger mirror. You jumped, no you screamed. Pulling your knees to your chest, causing water to splash up and out of the tub. He slammed the door shut, leaving you terrified about the event. Your hands quickly pull the plug on the tub, getting up and wrapping a towel around yourself. You opened the door slowly on your own, standing in the same position he once was, but not trying to be a creep. You wanted to make sure he wasn’t there waiting for you, and from what you could see, he was gone. No where in sight.
The door opens with a soft creak. The air conditioning blasting at the coldest setting as you walk out of the hot bathroom. You stood in the doorway, towel wrapped tightly around you, feet still wet and water dripping from your elbows. The fear of going further into the room made your stomach do flips. Your head turned to see the door was unlocked, he was still in here. Which means he can be hiding around the corner waiting to attack you. You slowly and quietly took steps back, eyes watching further into the room for the unsettling man. Your hand reached the doorknob, turning it and pulling the door open quickly. As soon as you got the space you ran out. Wet hair sticking to you, and feet hitting the cold floor as you run away. You didn’t care that you were just in a towel. The same towel that one of your hands has to hold onto while you run. Not once slipping from your grasp.
You ran for so long, not once did you ever see him behind you. Maybe he gave up, allowing you to finally escape him. That's only if you can get out of this maze-like hotel. You came to walk after a while. Legs tired and feet hurting as you walked the empty long halls. Everything looked the same, you felt like you were going in circles. There was always three of the same turns, and they never connected. You were confused, head jumbled and hurting from all the sudden movement. Your eyes landed on an open door, you could see it was a different room. Without thinking your feet carried you towards it. The door has a metal plaque that read, “employees only” Your brain screaming at you that the Doorman would be here or around the area, that it wasn’t safe. You didn't care, it's something different, finally no longer endless hallways and constant colors. Maybe this was a way out. Your hand reached to push the door further open but was grabbed by a glove on.
Panic sets in, you attempt to yank your hand out of his grasp. It doesn't work, his grip gets tighter and tighter until he now has you up against the wall.
“Ah ah ah! Nice try… There is nothing in the room for you my dear.”
The pet name sends a chill down your spine, his voice is monotone, sly smile on his face and bright glowing blue eyes. He was only a few inches from your face. The closeness was making you uncomfortable. Your hand was still gripping your towel tightly, trying to prevent it from dropping and leaving your body fully exposed to this man. The same man you have no fucking clue how or what he’d do if that happened. You turned your head, closing your eyes tightly, all this did was expose your neck to him. He leaned in, stopping before he made contact with your skin.
“You seem to have put up quite the fight. I’ve never had to chase someone down so many times.”
His words were taunting, almost like he wants you to know, you’ll never be getting out of here… ever. He seems to already know what he's gonna do to you, your brain hoping and praying he is just going to swiftly end your life. Anything else would actually kill you. HIs lips touch your neck and he lets go of your free hand. Your hand goes to start pushing him away. Elbowing him with your arm and almost crying. He's now trailing a kiss and licks up and down your neck, a pristine white glove grabs at your side. Gripping the towel and tugging down, your tears started to pour. The realization of what is happening.
“Please..”
Your beg, still trying to push and elbow him away, he pulls away from you, body pressed up against you and a knee between your legs keeping you in place.
“Don’t cry… don’t cry”
Gloved hand coming to cup your face, making you look at him as he wipes a tear away.
“Youre going to experience such great pleasure here at the Baroness with me…”
His smile doesn't falter, eyes almost glowing in anticipation. He pushes his knee further up into your core, he gains a gasp out of you. He leans in to kiss you, you turn your head in relaxation, but you're forced to look at him, lips touching, he's kissing you but you're not kissing him. Your hand is pushing at his chest, you're trying everything to get him away from you. You even let go of your towel, both hands pushing at him. Your towel falls on your side. Still being held up between you and him. Covering your most intimate parts, but it's not like it matters, he was stalking you in the bath. He eases up on pushing you into the wall, his chest leaving and the towel falls. Your tears are still falling now wetting his perfect white gloves.
“My, I couldn’t dream of someone with a more perfect body.”
You let out a sob, hands moving to cover you bits from his glowing gaze.
“Don’t hide.”
Gloved hands grabbing at your hands and pulling them away from you. He lets out a longing sigh, head tilting as he takes your naked body in. This time not being hidden from him. He lets go of your arms, hands moving to turn you around.
“I have to make this quick, the patrons are in need of my time.”
You sobbed, putting your check against the wall. His hands pull your hips, giving him a better angle. You hear the russell of fabric, then movement down at the entrance of your pussy. Your tears run hotter as you squeeze your eyes shut as he pushes into you. He's slow with it, almost like he doesn't want to hurt you, you can feel your heart cringe at the thought of that. If he didn’t want to hurt you he wouldn’t be doing this right now. He continues his assault, movements picking up and the occasional moan and whimper leaving him. You’re fighting everything in you to not moan as he's inside you. His movements pick up and your core starts to tighten. Your mind telling you this isn’t how this goes, but your body is simply following its natural call…Pleasure. He rutts into you a little too hard and you moan, bodying recoiling off him and sending vibrations straight to your clit. Now you're both moaning together, he's getting louder and faster. He pulls you back into him, reaching an arm around you and rubbing your clit. He knows you're almost ready to come. You just wish he would have finished and let you go, but he doesn't. Your moaning picks up and body doing all the work for you as he rubs brisk circles into you. Your hands braced you against the wall, tear stained face wrinkled up from all the pleasure. You were trying to get there, your own attempt at making sure this goes by fast, but it's not working. Your body is fighting against it, him, everything.
“Fuck fuck fuck. Just hurry up please. Let it be over.”
Your plea with the man behind you, his thrust is not insanely fast. The wall in front of you is taking all the pressure from him. You hear one last whimper moan behind you before he pulls out. His arm no longer reaches around to you. You can feel his warm hot cum on your back. Your once clean and fresh feeling skin is not tarnished. He lets go of you, watching as your body slumps against the wall in front of you. You fall down to your knees. Haad in your hands and cry. He picks up the towel and gently wipes your back, cleaning it of any last drop of him. He wants to pull you into him, but he stops himself. Remembering the time and his regiment for the day. He wraps the dirty towel around you and pulls you up off the ground. You watch him open a door into the hotel room he keeps you in.
“After you.”
He says watching you step into the door and just stand there.
“I will see you soon.”
He says the door is closing behind you and your sobs are ringing out into the room. You really need to find a way out of here, even if it's the last thing you do.

Your feet carried you swiftly to the nearest dry spot. The Baroness Hotel. The door overhang was just in reach as your umbrella was starting to give way to the heavy rainstorm above you. The yellow fancy lighting welcomed you, glass doors being the last step from the freezing cold. Pulling open the heavy glass door caused a bell to ring. The sound of dress shoes on carpet was all that could be heard, besides the loud thunder overhead.
“Welcome to The Baroness Hotel!”
A tall slender man greeted you, an arm behind his back while the other ushered you in. You smiled, grateful to be greeted and finally be in the presence of someone else. Moving to close the umbrella and shed your raincoat, when a white glove was held out for your items.
“Allow me..”
His smooth voice catches you off guard. This is when you finally looked up at the man, Ginger hair and bright almost glowing blue eyes stared down at you. He was smiling, still attempting to take your wet rain soaked items from you.
“Oh, well thank you!”
Your voice rang out, almost echoing in the lobby of the hotel. You honestly didn't see anyone else around just him. No receptionists or other patrons. Now that you thought about it, it is eerily quiet, the storm can no longer be heard, The Doorman was gone when you turned to speak to him. Your coat and umbrella were left on the rack… Still, like it's been there for hours. You turned to see outside of the Hotel, the street no longer there, instead an empty abyss, broken rocks and no ground. A broken hallway. Another glowing door on the other side of a rock like obstacle.
“Where the hell am I?”
You mumbled under your breath. Your hand reaches for the door.
“You're here to enjoy your stay…”
His voice spooked you, jumping physically as you turned around and were met with the Doorman now towering over you. You slowly looked up, meeting now glowing blue eyes… He smiled down at you, a gloved hand reaching for you.
You are quick enough to dodge the hand, darting around him and attempting to make a run for it. Your eyes set on the hallway that can get you deeper into the hotel, farther away from this crazed man. Who can now be heard chuckling.
Your feet carry you further and further into the hotel, taking lefts and rights and flights of stairs until you feel you've lost all sense of direction. You take a second and slow down, putting your back against a wall and sliding down it. Your body is trying to catch up to itself from all that running. You think about how you even got here. Was it two right and three lefts? No no I had to have three rights and four lefts! You couldn't remember your route, you couldn't tell north from south and east from west. You were lost, so lost it was getting to your head. Your survival instinct slows down and your brain gets even foggier. What is this place? And how the hell do you get out of it? It looked like there was a way out from the door you saw in the lobby. But if anything would the Doorman just be sitting there waiting? Your thoughts were interrupted by the sound of walking, the same sound you heard when entering the hotel.
“I fear you are creating a little spat as of now. It would be easier to just surrender yourself now then to hide the entire time.”
He paused, stopped walking and just stood there for a while.
“Alas, I know where you are.”
His voice sounded right around the corner. You look up to see him leaning around the corner staring at you. Your body wastes no time getting up and running down the hall. He fully moved from the corner. Just standing there watching you escape, well that's at least what you think is happening. You’re too busy looking over your shoulder at him to realize you were running into the opened door. Your last step causes you to fall suddenly into the black abyss. Your eyes looking back at the door to see the Doorman just standing there.
“Enjoy your stay.”
His voice was eerie, this was it. Locked in an endless hotel and now falling into an endless abyss. He got smaller and smaller before you slowly closed your eyes accepting your fate. You never felt your body hit the floor, but you guessed it wouldn't ever.
Your head hurts, eyes slowly opening to see you now in one of the rooms tied up. The beside lamp lights up the room enough for you to see. You were even stripped of your outside clothes, now simply wearing just an over sized t-shirt. Your hair was down and your legs bare. It was close in the room, the wallpaper engranded into your eyes, setting strips on the ugly colored carpet of the floor. There was only one bed, the comforter was not mixing well in the rest of the room and it almost made you feel sick. You attempted to move your arms, which were tied directly to the chair you sat in. rope burn already setting into your wrist. How long have you been here? Who was keeping you here? There was no way it was the Doorman, but you weren’t ready to put that idea past you.
The sound of keys jingling on the other side of the door caused your head to shoot up. In walked the very man you were hoping not to see. The door clicked behind him and he stood in front of you now. The same smile plastered on his face and glowing blue eyes staring into your soul. You kept quiet, hopefully he’d spare you of whatever torture hes about to inflict.
“I quite like you. You're making my time here in New York unforgettable with that chase.”
You watched as a smaller door opened and he dropped his gun and keys into it. You two just stared at each other. Your brow furrowed as you stared deadly daggers at the tall man.
“Of all the patrons I've run into you are by far the most invigorating. No one has given me a chase such as that, so I hope you’ll show me more of what you can do.”
You didn’t know what he was getting at, you wanted him to just kill you, finish the job and get it over with but he doesn’t. He moved to grab your face, your chin between his thumb and index fingers. He runs his thumb across your bottom lip and smiles just a tiny bit wider. He pulls your head up a bit more and leans in to kiss you. You yank your head away from him, causing his smile to fade for a second but return.
“I am honored I will be at your pleasure and help.”
Notes: im not proofreading it... its like 2k+ words
The careless breeze moved the orange fabric of your dress, bending it along with the tall grass around you. The sun shined brightly, producing a thin film of sweat on your forehead. The day was perfect, the patch of meadow hidden in the middle of a forest, far away from prying eyes and bounty hunters. All except for one, Tarhos, The tall armor clad man sat in the middle of the meadow, a blanket laid out for when you’d join him. He looked scary, intimidating, he had his back turned to you. It looked like he was picking flowers, his right arm occasionally moving to pluck something from the grass next to him… you moved closer trying your hardest to stay quiet and get the jump on him, but even in that large steel helmet he heard you. Hand swiftly moving to grab his sword.
“Tarhos. It’s just me..”
He relaxed, no words said, he turned to attempt to look over his shoulder at you. He normally did this when he wanted you in line of sight. You found that even though he was non-verbal, his actions spoke very clearly. Your feet carried you just in sight of him, standing on the edge of the blanket waiting for your invitation. Which soon followed, he raised his free hand to offer it to you, a request you thought said “Please sit with me”, you took it delightfully, lifting your feet placing them on the thick blanket. His hand lowered with you, preventing you from falling too harshly to your knees. Once you were seated he went back to whatever he was doing. You went to pick the small fleas of grass off your dress, unsure if you should talk to him or just let him take in the peacefuliness of the meadow. The silence takes over you, for once there is no gang of robbers or evil templars trying to get their hands on you. It’s just you and your faithful Knight.
Faithful Knight… those words stick in your mind, eye unfocusing as you think about how you two came to form your duo. A small frail lady with this bloody knight alongside him. At least you thought he was protecting you, for all you know he could be trying to bring you back to someone. Either way, he never let you stray too far, and he kept you safe so if he is working for someone else at least you have a friend for now.
He turned to you, hand offering you something, a small bouquet for picked flowers. Small pink, blue and purple flowers were held tightly in his armored gloves hand. You smiled, smaller hands grabbing at the bouquet carefully. You took a few out of the bouquet and put them in the holes of his helmet, at least the ones you didn't think he needed to see out of. You took two more and put them in your own hair. Smiling wider as your knight has now been beautified by nothing but a few flowers.
Once they were secure in your hands he stood up. Your head following his moments, he offers his hand once more. Allowing you to get up from your spot on the blanket with ease. He picked up his backpack, rolling up the blanket and moving onwards to the forest.
“Where are we going?”
You ask, knowing you will receive no answer. But still you instinctively follow the large metal man. Black hair blowing softly in the wind as you followed him out of the meadow. Now being shrouded by tall and thick trees. The sun was no longer shining down on you, now it cast dark shadows of limbs and sticks. It is a stark contrast to where you just were. Eyes squinty because of the sun and now you walk uncomfortably behind Tarhos. Aware of every stick bread, bird chirp, or other animal noises. Although you know Tarhos wouldn’t allow anything to happen to you, there was still a lingering feeling of uneasiness as you walked. You fought back everything in your body from grabbing his hands and making him walk besides you.
The forest soon came to another clearing, the sound of horses, sheep and people talking took over that spooky forest you just emerged from. The farm walking his donkey double glanced, 5 o’clock shadowed face smiling at you sinisterly. Tarhos didn’t stop walking. Your feet picked up in pace, moving to now only be two steps behind the large man. He walked you through the town, unphased by the stares and cat calls that were shunned your way. Your feet became increasingly wet, a filthy feeling, you lifted your dress to prevent it from getting any muddier. Tarhos stopped completely, causing you to faceplant into the back of him, you peeked around him. The sight of three men stopping you two from continuing to walk.
“Hand over that pretty lady you got there and we’ll let you pass, ya!”
The other men laughed agreeing with the man in the middle. Your fingers gripped the small amount of flowers tightly, this will end two ways. You’re handed over to these dirty poor looking men, or Tarhos does what he always does. You didn’t want him to give these men the time of day. Your hand grabbed at his arm.
“Let's just go back, we can find another way.”
You said, turning around to see two more men standing behind you. You watched as Tarhos got into his “Be warned!” stance, feet shoulder length apart, and a hand on his already large and dirtied sword. Your eyes looked up at the back of his helmet one more time. The black hair spilling out from the bottom. The men started to move, further surrounding you and the Knight. It was quiet, the sounds of wagons sloshing mud and your own heartbeat could be heard. You turned your back to Tarhos, backing full up so you can at least watch the two men behind you. The moment you heard movement from Tarhos you just squeezed your eyes shut, crouching down and butting your hands over your head.
Tarhos swung that sword like it was a stick, slicing them down one by one. He was handling it until he heard you scream. A shriek that sounded in his ears, and broke his tunnel vision on the man in front of him. He pushed the man in front of him into another, with haste he spun around, grabbing at the man who held you in his grasp. His sword went towards him in a stabbing motion. You flinched as blood splatter on your face, Tarhos sword now drenched in the blood of yet another man as he protects you. He lets out a loud grunt as he pushes the man off the metal, falling backwards with a squelching noise and that gargle of death. You stared in awe, this wasn't the first dead man you've seen, but it was the first one that was ever this close enough to you. Staining your satiny orange dress with a crimson that you knew wasn't going to come out easily.
Loud ringing sounds from behind you, the last man willing to fight Tarhos had attempted to back stab him. The dagger making a clinking noise, Tarho's free hand moved to grab the man by the throat, holding him up off the ground. His dagger fell to the ground as both his hands went to grab the armored glove, one choking him. He was struggling to breathe, Tarhos was going to choke him to death. Your eyes looked past the man to see his buddy scurrying backwards away from you two. Are you going to be forever protected or finally take things into your own hands? Tarhos has never seen you move so fast, your smaller hands grabbing at the dagger and swinging it at the man in front of you. You swing missed, Tarhos had thrown the man before you even registered what happened. That same hand moving to now grab at yours, taking the dagger from you before throwing it away. His helmet just stared down at you. Unbothered by the two last men running away. You watched, their feet kicking up mud and screaming about how crazy Tarhos was.
You went to yank your hand out of his grip, but it tightened. Unmoved or bothered by you putting almost your entire body weight into getting out of it. All you could do was stare daggers at him. This is the first time he’s done something like this, stopping everything just to prevent you from doing something. He let go, still staring at you. You simply grabbed the travel pack and started walking. Unafraid of what the villagers would do knowing they’d all seen Tarhos almost kill five men in one go. Now all you could think about was the fact that you were dirty, stinking like mud and sweat, and wanting to get out of this god-for-saken town. So you did, walked until there was no more village to walk, Tarhos followed closely enough distance for incase something else happens but not far enough to where he couldn’t save or protect you.
The village ended at a river, a rigged old bridge was built as a path over it. You came to a stop, unsure what to do now. Tarhos came to a stop next to you, staring down at the river below you two. He pointed one way, down stream. He didn't even wait for acknowledgement, just started walking. You followed precisely like he knew you would. It was a nice walk, the sound of the river was relaxing, something you needed after what happened in the village earlier. You were hoping the river would at least lead you to some sort of body of water. You would like to clean yourself up and attempt to get this bloody off your dress. It's not lady-like. There was a lot on your mind, still thinking about the incident and even why he stuck around you. That was the main one. What does he gain from being around you?
Tarhos grunted, and pointed at the large lake in front of you. He found a spot with a good clearing and grabbed the travel pack from you. He rolled out the blanket and put his sword down before walking away into the words. You took this time to look at the water, making sure nothing looked unusual. You took the time to walk to the edge of the lake, carefully washing the mud out of the bottom hem of your dress. Occasionally switch between that and washing off your feet. A sigh left you, the water was nice and the events from today were finally weighing on you. You wanted to get all the way in the water, fully submerge yourself in it and just float away. Tarhos hasn’t returned, so might as well take this time to undress before he gets back. You return to your small camp, hands undoing the ties of your dress and allowing it to fall around your ankles. Wasting no time you return to the water, walking all the way down until it stopped around your waist. Not too far but just enough the most intimate parts of you, You slowly start to wash off the day's grime from your body. Cupping your hand, bringing water up your arm and scrubbing down.
Once that was all clean you’d wash your hair, at least get the dirt out. You crouched and leaned back, putting all of your body in the water and allowing your hair to move freely. That's when you saw Tarhos, an armored frame standing on the shore with a dead animal in his hand. He raised it up to show you, before setting it down and moving to join you in the water. You panicked, diving under the water and poking just your head out. He was soon waist deep standing next to you. He dipped his hand in and pulled it out, rigging out the piece of cloth he had in his hand. He wiped at your face, removing the soot and mud from it. His hands are gentle, far different then how he was handling those men. How can he go from being so angry and harmful to soft and gentle with you. He was an enigma, large and rough Knight to let me make sure you're a clean Knight. Why is he so different, he never removes his armor, he doesn't even talk. Yet you feel like you know every single word he’s told you.
He soon turns you around, hands grabbing at your shoulders and pulling you up in the water. He gently moved your hair to the side and continued washing you. No words, no breathing, the sound of the lake and animals nearby.
“Tarhos…”
He didn't stop his movements.
“Why don’t you speak? Why did you stop me from killing that man? And why are you protecting me?”
Your questions were left with no answers, just the sound of water sloshing and the movement of his washing your shoulders. He soon reached over you, handing you the rag, before moving your hair back to behind you and cleaning it as well. Cup-like hands bring water up to the top of your head and repeat the motion. You just let him clean you, taking in the freedom to do nothing. Once he’d done the repeated motion several times, you turned around. Placed a hand on the torso of his armor and proceeded to do the same thing to him. Rag in hand as you washed the dried blood and dirty off him.
“I don't know what your motive is, Tarhos. But I quite like you, even if you’ll never speak to me.”
You moved your hand up to his helmet. He stopped you, hand wrapped around your wrist. The rag dripped water back into the lake. You two stayed like that for a while until he let go. Releasing your wrist and allowing you to clean off his helmet. You saw his muscles relax a bit, shoulder slump just a tiny tiny bit. You smiled, he was learning to trust you, even though you’ve already put your life in his hands several times. Your cleaned off a spot on his helmet before lifting yourself on your tippy toes and kissed the clean spot.
“Thank you for saving me, Tarhos… Even if it's the eighteenth time you’ve done it.”
For now it's just you and Tarhos… The Princess and her Knight….
Gazerbeam you don't know how long I've waiting for this.... Reader and Gazerbeam get "Busy" as Syndrome says... Anyways Enjoyyyy
Simon Paladino was an influential man, always working pro-bono cases. Standing up against anti-super laws, while also secretly fighting crime himself. So how did you get here? Both arms pinned down into the mattress, the same fancy lawyer and super hero no hoovered over you. He’d lost the helmet, black rimmed glasses hanging almost loosely on his face. You could see your reflection in them, but what you truly wanted to see were those pretty clear blue eyes. His smile was almost shy, but he should know the deal by; as you’ve brought him here several times.
He leaned in, giving a slow but sweet kiss. Those same kisses now turn deeper, desperate and bruising as he trials down. His hands loosen around you, swiftly finding their way between you two. The sounds of fabric rustling and before you knew it his hand was up your skirt. Feeling at the wet spot you’ve been building in your panties. A soft breath leaving you, fingers finding Simon’s nape as you pulled him towards you.
“No time to wait, please, I need you.”
Clear blues glancing up at you briefly, he smiled. Eager as always he sees. Finger tips running up to pull your panties down and get to work. Once the way was clear he sat up, hands resting on your hips as he pulled you down towards him. If you could you would have started drooling, bare chested as his super suit bunched at the hips, messy hair and smudged and crooked glasses. He was almost edible, it's times like this when you wish to keep him in this exact moment. Relieving the way he feels tugging on your lips, enjoying the callouses scratching at your smooth unworked skin. God, you’d actually give this man 16 kids if he’d let you.
Grunt and the feeling of being stuffed full snapped you out of your thoughts. Mouth agape as you stare into the ceiling. You have to be quiet, it's already 2a.m. and you're about to be moaning like a pornstar. Who would blame you? This hunk of a man coming to you in that suit, pulling his tie loose. Then there's the other half, sweaty, tired and frustrated, he's ripped thick biceps and thighs making the navy blue fabric look like it's about to burst. God, you want every part of him.
“Sweetheart? Are you alright?”
You blink, locking eyes with him before nodding. A sigh of relief leaving, cursing your body to relax. You can’t tell him how you've thought about this very moment all day. This morning when he kept pulling that damned tie down while sitting next to you. Or the way his thigh jumped as he got impatient, and his hand flexing on the arm of the chair every two minutes.
“Fuck..”
You let out, swinging a leg around him. He glanced at you, hips moving slightly back and forth. It was steady, enough to get you going but not enough to satisfy the ache you had. Now you were the one getting impatient.
“Faster”
Was all you whispered, he picked up pace. Fingers leaving crescent shapes in the plump flesh of your hips, you were almost there. Almost at the very threshold to satisfy you. You started meeting Simon’s thrust, which soon turned into your sitting up. Now you had control of the pace, and that perfectly handsome lawyer you worked with was now beneath you.
Half lidded eyes, and a gap mouth as you used that poor man like a toy. He’d lower his head into your chest and you’d pull his hair to look back up at you. A flash of danger in his eyes as you spoke.
“No, you look at me, Mr. Paladino.”
For once he was actually looking at you, no fear of hurting you showed in him. Clear blue eyes watching as your eyebrows creased from the pleasure. He felt every time you clenched around him when he whispered-moaned your name. He even noticed that little shiver you get when he kisses each of your boobs like they are your actual lips. Just watching you get off was enough for him and god he is not lying.
“Ya’ almost there? Yeah, just a little longer baby and you’ll have it all..”
His voice was smooth, that quiet and somber tone now has a hint of lust in it. That same lust he spoke with was running through you. Your muscles grow tense, and you can feel them start to spasm. Simon quickly moved you back to lay on your back as he did the last of the work for you two. The rom filling with grunts and moans as he fucked you as hard as he could.
“Fuck fuck fuck fuck!”
A deep breath.
“Yes yes yes yes, right there.”
He grunted, such a simple noise that sent you straight over the end. Your eyes squeezed shut, flashes of white behind him as you came hard… your body locking up as Simon continued his movements, he wasn't done with you yet. With what little strength you had, you wrapped and locked your legs around him. Keeping him in one place, that alone sent the man over. A grunt was heard as he finished. Arms catching himself before falling onto you.
The room smelt of sweat and sex, sounds of you both attempting to come down from that high. Your breathing rang loud in your ears, causing you to let out a little giggle. Simon looked at you.
“What are you laughing at?”
You pulled your shoulders up, tilting your head while continuing to laugh.
“Ohh just how I’ve waited all day for thissss.”
Your tone was playful, the man above you let out his own little chuckle. He moved over, now laying next to you on his back. You rolled onto your side, propping your head up on your hand. He looked straight up, eyes closed and glasses off. You could admire his side profile, god he’s so handsome is all you thought.
“Soooooo”
“Yes, let's take a shower sweetheart.”
He stood up, suit still bunched around his waist and now showing off those nice and toned back muscles.
It's hot, so hot that you had to go buy you a brand new pair of shorts while out on your date. Well, you didn’t buy them. Lin did, he insisted that you picked out the cutest and shortest pair. He had you try on at least four pairs before finally giving you his final opinion. You just wanted something that didn’t make you feel like you're sweating bullets. He patiently waited outside of the restroom for you to return, people watching as the festival even carried on.
Your now freezing hand pulled on the public restroom door. And was met with the smiling face of Lin, you watched as his eyes went straight down to take in your outfit. Nodding to himself satisfied, he surely knew you’d be able to pull off those shorts.
“You look good, (y/n) a little too good.”
He said as he walked over to you and placed a kiss on the top of your head. Interlocking his fingers with yours and starting to walk, he knows you weren’t done walking around the festival. The look on your face told him you were no longer as hangry as before. Now he just wanted to get you some food, knowing how you can and will go from 0 to 100 if something happened. The festival is packed, and you both have to fight the crowd at times. The lines for a lot of places were long and he was just starting to think that maybe you two should just go to your usual spot.
When you suddenly stopped, your weight pulled on his arm as he attempted to continue walking. He looked back and saw you staring at a tea shop, it had a very Victorian look to it. A few tables sat out and under umbrellas. There was only one couple there and on their table sat a large teapot and a sweet treat, finger sandwiches, scones, anything and everything you wanted. He saw your eyes sparkle and all of a sudden he was now pulling you toward it. He held the door open for you, quickly ushering you in so you could figure out what kind snacks you were getting. By the time he was walking up you’d already decided on the type of tea and dessert tray you wanted.
“What are you gonna get?”
You smiled at him, his scanned the chalk menu swiftly before picking.
“Can you add Mandarin Macarons to whatever she’s getting”
The cashier nodded, telling you both to take a seat and the order will be out. Your feet were moving faster than him. He saw you had a bounce in your step, almost skipping to the table you wanted. A nice view of the festival and the perfect opportunity to people watch. You stood waiting for him to pick a side, he sat down and you soon sat next to him. Your thighs sticking to the sticky booth leather. Your shoulder touching his aslaugh came from you.
“This is an odd choice,”
He says,
“But no completely unexpected. I thought you’d want actual food like hot pot or something.”
You made an exaggerated mmmmmm noise as you linked your arm with his.
“It’s the only place not crowded and a pot of earl grey tea sounds so goood!”
He chuckles at you. The only person he knows who will pick a place cuz it’s less crowded and u wanted a specific tea. You laid your head on his shoulder, taking in the quiet tea shop and his presence. It’s not often he gets a free day from saving the world and it’s definitely not often you two get to experience random little putting either.
“Hey, I got a question.”
His voice is soft, his other hand coming to rest on yours that is holding onto his arm.
“You ever thought you’d be dating a superhero?”
His question is silly, sending a little giggle from you. As you pushed your body further into his arm.
“No but I always knew I’d date someone important!”
He nods, it’s almost close enough to what he wants to ask. Your relationship has been going strong since before he became The Iron Fist. But the fact you stayed after all the times he’s had to rain check or bail on dates and special occasions. Even though he always expected to come home and you’re not there, he doesn’t. He opens the door and the first thing he’s greeted with is a squeal and a kiss. Your bright and happy demeanor lights him up even after a hard fight or night.
“Why do you ask?”
You say, as the food and tea is placed in front of you. He watches for a while as you pour yourself a cup of tea and hum pleasantly to yourself. Your fingers are going to grab at one of everything on the dessert rack and even pick at one of his Macarons. He just smiles and reaches into his pocket, a small velvet box is presented to you. Catching your eye now you set your plate down and go to reach for it, but he opens it first.
“I figured you’d want to leave after the tenth time I bailed on a date to save the world. But you didn’t, so why not just full send and get married?”
The little box held an engagement ring. A silver intricate ring that held one large green sapphire in the middle and smaller encrusted diamond on the sides. It was gorgeous, it was everything you’d envision when you thought about an engagement ring.
Your eyes quickly started to tear up, a frown on your face as you attempted not to fully break down in front of him.
“Linnn!”
Was all you could say. His smile beamed at you and all you could do was nod and grab at the napkin in front of you.
“Yes yes yes! A hundred times yes!”
You fanned your eyes as you looked up at the ceiling, a broken sob leaving you. His hand lightly grabbed yours and slid the ring on. You looked down, taking in the pretty ring on your finger. A symbol of your love for this man forever and ever.
This was an idea I mid val game and then was like wait I can write that, so I did!!! Enjoy

The sight of the blonde man in regular clothes caught you off guard. Clothes that you've seen in the closet but never thought he’d wear. His hair tied back in his normal updo; a green turtle neck, folded and brown pants. HIs boots in one hand while his coat was in the other.
“Where are you all dressed up?”
He placed his boots down, setting his coat on a nearby surface before answering.
“To protocol before maybe going to the store.”
His answer was short and to the point, at least that's what your brain heard. Eyes never leaving the black leather belt he wore, perfectly holding his pants up and in place. HIs voice went on, tuned out in your ears as you mind ran with ideas for that belt. He stood at arms length to you. Your hands reached towards the leather as you stood. The movement caught his attention rather late. Your fingers latching onto the time, dipping in and pulling him towards you. Your own body still until you could no longer pull him any closer. You stood on your tippy toes to latch onto his lips. His breath hitching, stomach contracting under the sudden action. Your lips moving in unison. His hands moved to grab your waist, pulling you any closer to him. You pull back but he follows, lips still attached in fear of letting go of the moment. You’re stuck, unable to pull back any further, stuck breathing in his intoxicating smell and feeling his body being pushed against yours.
He pulls back when he’s ready, letting go of the greed that filled his soul when you started the kiss. A sigh leaving his lips as rested his forehead on yours. His eyes closed as he tried to restrain himself.
“I must go see Brim.”
He paused, a little disappointment settling in your stomach. Your grip on his belt loosening a bit.
“But he is gonna have to wait.”
The bitter taste of disappointment melting away before being replaced wish a burning desire. His hands quickly moved to grab you thighs and pull you up, roughly setting you on the closest surface. He leaned in to kiss you, and that's when you knew he wasn’t letting you go for the rest of the night.
