One World of Darkness hill I'm always ready to die on is that Saulot needs to have been a genuine force for good for his role in the story to be effective, and all the attempts to retcon him as secretly evil all along were written by stupid monkeys and need to be ignored. He needs to have been the one Antediluvian who had a moment of honest-to-God realization that he's on the wrong path, and he needs to have done his goddamn best to make up for all his past sins, and to make a lasting legacy of using his vampiric powers for the common good of both Kindred and mortals, and he needs to have gotten rewarded for all that by getting diablerized by Lord Tremere, the grossest, pettiest piece of shit in the entire universe, who even all the other vampire Elders feel dirty after talking to, and who then proceeded to genocide the entire Clan Salubri to near extinction. That story beat just doesn't hit at all if it was just one evil vampire killing another, the history of Clan Tremere absolutely needs to start with their founder cannibalizing the (un)living embodiment of all the vampirekind's hope for an actually better future, and then just keep getting worse.

i shuffled cho's playlist aaand i got:

honestly i was really hoping i wouldn't get one of the vtmb ost songs that i sprinkled into her playlist but ehh, whatever. (there are so many other songs of variety that are amazing on this playlist fkgjdfg whyyyy)
anyways, before i get carried away,,,
i chose this song because it is kind of perfect for her. or at least, the part of her that loves.
her sire - now dead, being diablerized by cho herself as it is always done by the salubri - was honestly some sort of "smaller god" to her. she was struggling with her asian family having impossible expectations for her, sending the girl to med school when she wanted to be a musician.
but she tried to make use of what she had going on, despite of what she had always dreamt of doing. she pushed for the better, partly because she wanted to, partly because her parents didn't give her any other option. she went so far and beyond sometimes, she quickly became the teacher's favourite - and with that, her sire's too, who was prof. mattias yuan at the time. he gave her extra tutoring lessons, they grew closer with her being somewhat emotionally dependent due to her family's treatment and him being ever so supporting. bada bing bada boom, after like a year, they started secretly dating. (i should note that mattias is a fairly young prof compared to his colleagues dfjkgdfg but yeah)
mattias not so long after them "becoming a thing" found out after what goes on at cho's home, and, being a salubri, couldn't help but incredibly sympathize with her and feel the ever-growing urge to embrace her. to help her. to take her out of that environment.
and so he did, after quite some time of consideration. with cho's consent, of course. she was kind of, more than happy to oblige. she was given some false promises, but she agreed nonetheless.
she felt like he was a smaller god, saving her from death, as the song implies. what happened after obviously changed her perspective on him, but in that short amount of time she spent learning as a kindred under him, she felt so free and happy. (until the diablerie part came and now his soul just haunts her in her subconscious. fun times!)
another explanation for this is how she learns to look at her partner, ilya. she has some serious abandonment and attachment issues to work with, nevermind her insecurities and trauma her family gave her that she is still trying to come over. oh and trying to un-learn shame and guilt about her very being with ilya as well. (they are little traumatised beans</3)
here comes the part where it is so apparent that i cry every time i think about these two it is insane. wahhhhh
cho looks at ilya as her little saviour, her own little god! he has saved her, helped her, loved her unconditionally so so so much since the moment he realised that he has feelings for her. and cho has also helped him tremendously. but from the perspective of cho, who hardly ever cares about herself since she thinks others need the help more, and also being neglected and somewhat verbally abused through her mortal life, no one ever cared for her in a way that ilya did, does, and will continue to do so. he is always there for her, supports her, he's the only one who can calm her beast and vice versa. (he has done so, at least once when she was having a very hard time with the loud voices of her sire in her head. diablerie am i right)
she also achieves golconda with the help of ilya - on their wedding night, nonetheless -, but that is a story for another occasion sdkfjdfg (i shouldn't get carried away too much with them, as much as i adore the fuck out of them. i am like an ouroboros, my brain always comes back to them for comfort food)
