Rantings of a Mad Man: Ethics of Immortality

Last time I stated that I believed that Immortality is possible to achieve and I spoke that the ethics behind whether Immortality should be achieved is what will/can prevent it. Before we get into whether it is ethical or not we need to understand what ethics is and how they are determined. Ethics are in laymen terms right and wrong. Right and wrong in turn is determined by what a society thinks, in fact what is right and wrong can be determined by anyone. The thing is that since right and wrong is determined by society, whether immortality is achievable will also be in turn be decided by society. As of right now society is at a crossroads on this issue, in social standards both sides are ethical. As an individual I try to break away from societies influence and ponder things myself although I am sure I fail to do this quite often and am just unaware of it, as I said before everyone is right when it comes to ethics however society will enforce what it thinks is right. Personally I say people should have the ability to choose if/when this comes to be as this is a life changing decision of course this could be abused and used against people that don’t have it...  I am not fully aware of how much damage nanomites could heal but I do find it somewhat plausible that if you were to throw someone equipped with them into lava they wouldn’t regenerate.

Kony is unfortunate but it must be allowed to pass. If the United States gets involved it will inevitably lead to war and the United States cannot handle another war right now. If the United States goes to war I fear that the result will be a broken back on the economic front. If the United States falls the United Nation’s would fall apart (U.S. provides 22% funding) and a weakened U.S. could be attacked by its enemies; this would spark World War 3. Let Uganda handle Kony if they don’t then it is clear that they are uncaring of its people’s situation.

Rantings of a Mad Man: Immortality will be possible

What is immortality? A very loose definition would be to live on indefinitely. Of course that can mean anything from being remembered, going into a history book, making a fresh copy of yourself once every few decades,  finding a way for your personality to stay intact or to keep your body intact forever. I can’t speak for other people but keeping my body intact forever is the most appealing one to me, I believe it can be done through the use of Nanomites in the near future. Nanomites can repair tissue cells today and I find it feasible that in the future they will be able to fully fix bodies; this would mean that they could heal missing limbs, muscles and organs. It may be even possible for Nanomites to cure cancer and all other forms of disease (aging considered a disease) this would make everyone equipped with Nanomites immortal. The major issue behind this is the ethics, but this is a discussion for another time.

Rantings of a Mad Man: Determining Value

Could no one be of any value in the end? Could the only thing of value be the messages and Ideals that people represent? Last time I stated we are all important but exactly how important we are depends on our value. I also stated that it is practically impossible to determine what is of value. Perhaps we are only of import because the only thing of value is messages and Ideals, perhaps value can be determined by how accepted an ideal, belief or message is? Even if the ideal is incorrect people achieve fame when their ideal is widely accepted thus the Ideal clearly had an effect and is of value. Yes, I believe this is correct.

Rantings of a Mad Man: The Meaning of Life

If you ponder the meaning of life (your life) than you assume you are important. If something is important than it has value to someone or something, by having value to someone the point is pressed that life is valuable. By asking what the meaning of life is; you are really asking how valuable you are. What is of value is relative and thus this question is unsolvable in nature as there is no way to answer this until everyone can come to terms as to what is valuable.
