Watching From and thinking abt the monsters! Thought dump below ~
1) Reminds me of Vampires a little
They can't be let in unless invited, and yeah its because of the talisman, but if someone opens a window its not like the talisman stops them from coming in. You still need to let them in... they remind me of vampires in that sense. Maybe they're some kind of "unholy creature."
2) "When" are these guys from anyway?
You have ones like the milkman which is from an older time period, but then you have ones like the boy with the creepy smile in the blue sweater who seems to be more modern in comparison, among others. Do these monsters span generations? Say they're people who died and came back... the cycle would have been going on a for a while if that's the case. Will what happened to Victor's "generation" happen again soon? Will everyone die? Will they come back...
3) Do they have a sense of self? Is it their own or who they used to be?
(Slight spoilers) When the girl monster who got into Colony House was in the bathroom, she washed her dress of blood and looked at her reflection. Was she reminiscing? Thinking about who she is, who she was? We see from Kristi's autopsy that their anatomy is human, but its like their dead. Were they alive at some point? Are they who they were, or are they something unholy in the form of who they were when they died? Many thoughts....
Anyways if theres anything y'all noticed pls do share haha very curious as to what's going on, just finished s2 and ooo my brain is running
Oshi no Ko Manga/Anime Tone Differences: Episode 1
So i read the manga then decided to give the anime a try, and overall I liked it! Though, it didn't hit the same way the manga did. The anime is very colorful, which I think works great for the idol themes, but the use of black in the manga is just so good and leans into the more horror aspects of the story, and I'd like to go over some of my favorite moments that I think the manga pulled off especially well!
(Disclaimer: I'm not saying the anime sucks or was done poorly, I enjoyed it! Just wanted to share parts where I personally feel the manga outshined it and had better delivery! It's all ultimately my opinion. And if you're an anime only I highly recommend reading the manga!!)
Anime: The anime felt shocking sure, like "Whoa he died! What??" But personally the reveal just didn't do it for me. It felt too... mild? As odd as that might sound LOL... The slow zoom out gave me more time to process the thought of "Oh he died." Overall yeah it still delivered the shock factor of the episode, but not as impactful as I'd have liked.
Manga: Reading this scene in the manga felt so heavy and horrific, then the realization that it was him who was reincarnated as her child? Left my jaw dropped LOL the buildup of the black with then the full image hitting you all at once was SO GOOD, then the white text on black made the "I would have never thought it would be me." feel so CHILLING.
It starts off the story with something shocking but at the same time, horrifying. That he was murdered, the insane reality of being reincarnated as his patients child, and that well, this is his life now. The anime to felt more of just shock value, but that horror and chill was missing.
Aqua and Ruby Child Actors: Meeting Kana
Anime: There's two parts from this part of the episode where I preferred the manga over the anime. The first being when Aqua and Ruby are pissed at Kana LOL. The expressions are great, and the vibe is definitely there. However the poses aren't pushed as much, and generally feels "safer."
Manga: The manga panel has their positions switched, and I generally enjoy this composition more than in the anime. There's empty space above Ruby, and the position the twins are in is more visually interesting, rather than just standing there. They come off as more menacing and FAR more creepy. Like truly a pair of kids that are just. Not normal lol.
Aqua and Ruby Child Actors: Aqua's Acting
I actually think this clip was pretty good, the close up and lighting on Aqua was so good, that freaky little kid LOL. Thought the scene in it's entirety, this scene in the gif aside, felt a bit weak to me. The manga had a forest backdrop I really enjoyed and the lower angle was neat.. like he was looming over you... though this one really is more up to preference I think, both were good!
Ai, Love and Lies
Anime: When Ai has her monologue in the anime about not being able to love, and wondering if she even loves her kids, it comes across as sad. A girl not knowing love herself, unable to know if she can feel it for others and desperately trying to. It's not bad, but I greatly preferred the manga delivery.
Manga: The use of black and the separation of the text and images works so well for this scene, it comes across as terrifying and desperate... when I first read this I felt this genuine scare that she didn't, and couldn't love. Her children adore her more than she knows, and she doesn't know if she truly loves them.
I was so scared in general and for her. What if she didn't? Despite wanting to so terribly? The anime got some "aww :(" from me but not the chills this made me feel.
Other Thoughts and The End :D
Overall, I prefer the manga to the anime because of its tone and delivery.... its more horrifying and scary, with the style really working for it the darker the plot gets. The colors are the world of idols and how it seems to the outsiders, but in reality it's grim and cruel and the twins are fighting tooth and nail to achieve their goal. Unsure if I'll watch season two when it comes out, but I'll be sure to see how future scenes get adapted!!
Side Notes: Another thing I felt in the manga versus the anime was that, I found myself just preferring the style of the manga. The anime is VERY PRETTY, don't get me wrong, but it feels like? When the sketch has more energy than the lineart. I love the brush strokes and the heavy lines and use of black in the manga, and the anime feels. Light, fine lines, pretty and colorful.
And finally, especially now that you've seen manga aqua in the previous manga panel.....This is a silly petty section, and is entirely just on me, and how Aqua was treated in the anime. Why did they make him ugly. WHY. THAT IS NOT WHO'S REVENGE I AM ROOTING FOR!!!!!!!!
But he was cute here i'll admit I love this scene LOL
ANYWAYS, if you read this far thanks for sticking around! Now go read Oshi no Ko <3
Thinking again how much I love Benten from Uchoten Kazoku as a character.
It’s so rare to see a character who seems to have stepped straight out of a ancient myth or fairytale. Not just because of her vaguely defined supernatural abilities, but her personality. It’s impossible to categorize her. She’s fickle and capricious, capable of the worst cruelty and the most powerful aid, and she regards both options as having as much weight as the choice of where to go for lunch. She has seemingly no moral code, but doesn’t go around sowing chaos or harm; she just lives her life, doing what she pleases and reacting to what others ask of her. She’s not emotionless and neutral either; she’s easily swung to one side or another by spite or jealousy or the promise of entertainment. She’s the main character’s most powerful ally and most terrifying enemy, simultaneously, in any given conversation. She’s fascinating to watch and I love every scene she’s in.
Lmao i haven't been on tumblr in a hot second but i would like to say as a manga reader i am. So sad about the promised neverland i did not expect the promised powerpoint
