Is this all humanity was worth at this point? Jim Lake Jr had travelled back two years into the past, only to face death and what not! This felt like a slap to the face. No, this was the universe's way of telling him that nothing could be changed.
He left his own time for this. Blinky, Argh, his mom, and Claire! Jim wouldn't admit this apocalypse to be his fault (although it might have been), there was no manual that came with the chronosphere in the first place. To say the least, all he needed at that very moment was his very own 'How to not mess up the universe when Time Traveling' guide.
