I get that people recommending Warframe and Marathon are, for the most part, trying to be helpful and give Destiny players a new home, but, respectfully: Please don't. Not now at least, when we're still reeling from the announcement. If someone is asking for what to play next, then by all means, recommend! But otherwise, perhaps wait until the dust has settled a bit.
I say this as someone who loves Warframe, too: Warframe is not Destiny. Aside from both being scifi looter shooters with space magic…they really don't compare.
And I get that Marathon is made by Bungie, but it's also an extraction shooter, a COMPLETELY different genre than Bungie's previous games. The gunplay may be similar, but that's where the similarities end.
I've already seen accusations that salty D2 players are going to try and sabotage Bungie by not playing Marathon, and while some may gripe and complain on the internet, I'm willing to bet the vast majority of D2 players that don't jump on Marathon aren't doing so maliciously, but because they are simply like me—we just don't fancy extraction shooters. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. It's not a "stick it to Bungie", it's just that they made a game we simply don't have an interest in.
Guardian Slang
So after getting into a conversation with a civilian who didn’t understand half of what I was saying, me and @frackingplaceholder decided to put together a short list of Guardian slang and colloquialisms. If we missed anything important, let us know.
Guardian Kiss: verb. The act of gently bumping your helmet against someone as a sign of affection. Example: She leaned over and gave her friend a Guardian kiss.
Titan Teddy Bear: noun. A type of Titan whose personality is exceedingly affectionate. Example: They hugged me and told me how much they missed me even though I’ve only been gone for a day. My teammate is a real Titan Teddy Bear.
Trip to the City: colloquialism. When a Guardian jumps off the Tower as a means of initiating Ghost revive. Not to be confused with an actual trip to the City. Example: He just went on a trip to the City, he’ll be back when his Ghost catches up.
Yor-child: noun. Someone who is excessively gloomy and dramatic. Example: I can’t stand them, they’re such a yor-child.
Traveler’s Broken Ass: exclamation. Vulgar slang. Example: Traveler’s broken ass, when will they stop?!
Zavala’s Wet Dream: colloquialism. When something goes exactly as planned with no setbacks. Example: The mission went well, it was basically Zavala’s wet dream.
Cupid’s Knife: noun. A Hunter knife that has their contact information on it. This knife would be thrown at someone the Hunter would like to ask out on a date, or otherwise get to know better. Example: I got hit with a Cupid’s Knife so on one hand, I’m bleeding, but on the other hand, I have a date for Saturday.
Thanat: noun. Someone who dies a lot, and is particularly dramatic about it. From Thanatonaut. Example: They’re being a huge thanat about getting blasted by that Walker.
Machining: verb. Talking fast, like machine gun fire. Example: She machines way too much, I can’t understand her.

• Rahool: adj. The quality of being creepy or unsettling despite no outward signs of being so. Example: Alright, that cave looks super rahool and I want nothing to do with it.
• Tower Cat: colloquialism. A Guardian who refuses to interact with other Guardians outside of missions. Example: Leave Asher alone, you know he’s a Tower Cat.
• Ball: noun. Any vaguely spherical object that needs to be picked up and thrown and/or dunked at/in something. Example: I got dibs on the ball, you guys go shoot stuff.
• Zavala’s Worst Nightmare/Cayde’s Best Friend: colloquialism. A Guardian who refuses to follow even the simplest, most foolproof plans, but still manages to complete the mission. Example: If you can, avoid taking missions with Nickolai, he’s Zavala’s Worst Nightmare.
