Representing the CSA’s interests Vantir attended the event on Hapes, managing to escape unharmed except for a few minor bruises. 

Meeting with Lando Calrissiona they arranged a back door deal for the New Republic to get medical equipment, and ships at a cheaper rate. 

In Canto Bight, Vantir met with General Armitage Hux who was looking to acquire ships for the First Order.

         perhaps placing the bets had not been the best idea —well he had not lost the credits and while the order was not suddenly going to be swimming in credits, he even had a good amount to take back to the temple, what had worried obi-wan was the opinion might have of a jedi placing bets. memories of quinlan and master qui-gon getting them out of impossible situations by the grace of a well placed bet flooded his mind, lost in his thoughts obi-wan slammed into someone, almost spilling drinks everywhere, almost.

        like second nature obi-wan waved his hand to stop the drinks mid-air, gracefully collected them and offered an apologetic smile, ❝it would’ve been a disaster if i had ruined that outfit❞ obi-wan said to the person he had bumped into, placing a drink back on their hand.

   Vantir was checking on guests, and turning to walk away when the next thing they knew they were bumping into another guest, who apparently was with the Jedi delegation, evidenced by their use of the force. Vantir chuckled, their hand lightly waiving away any worries. “Please, It would have been fine, I have plenty more to wear.” He smirked, and an eyebrow raised, as his eyes very casually scanned over the Jedi, tongue lightly running against his bottom lip shamelessly. “Besides, it would not be a total disaster if I had to remove this suit because of you.....Mr?”

at least han was enjoying the fathier races. leia couldn’t lose herself in the festivities — she hated most things that the corporate sector authority stood for. watching them profit from galactic crises was sickening, & knowing that she couldn’t stop them was worse. ( she remembered after the first death star, alderaanian wine selling for millions of credits — )

she gave cessin a thin smile in return as he approached, distaste masked enough to be polite but still very clear. “i appreciate it, vantir, but everything is just fine.”

   Leia was an expert at masking her thoughts. It was something that Vantir both as a former rebel, and a diplomate admired about her. His smile only growing when she said everything was fine. “Well I am very happy to hear that. Tell me, have you found the time to bet on any of the Fatheir? I heard that number three is expected to do remarkably well before the end of the races.” Their hands moved their side. “And has anything exciting been happening within the senate? I understand there may be some sort of peace summit. I wonder, has Mon Mothma asked for your thoughts on such a thing?”

lando could certainly appreciate the bluntness in which vantir approached it, a breath drawing in through his nose before offering a small nod of his head in agreement. “well, perhaps it’s naive of me, but it’d be nice to see some change about that.” he wasn’t a naive man, and knew it would not just go away. things were never that simple or straightforward. corruption would always exist. still, the galaxy needed to move past getting caught up in the same destructive cycles that had torn apart the last republic.

vantir was offering big numbers and even bigger discounts. that much bacta would make a significant difference given the shortage that had been problematic in the last months, and especially with all that had happened –– all that could still happen. “too much?” he laughed. “and i thought you were here to charm me, not insult me,” he jested easily, lips remaining lifted in an easy smile. “ah, there’s that charm that i was expecting. i’d have to give a look at the light cruisers myself to see if that’s really the deal you’re setting it up to be, but a price like that on bacta… well, i’d be a fool to say no.”

   “Hey both of us worked to bring change to the galaxy with the Rebellion, and yet both of us ended up leaving it, though tell me, just between us, you think this whole New Republic will actually be any better than what was before it, not the Empire, the Old Republic, I get Mon and Leia, and Padmé are all great people but, they’re just three people amongst thousands and a few senators I’ve met? Aren’t like them.” 

Vantir chuckled when Lando acted insulted, “Oh darling, I can still find ways to charm you, don’t worry yet.” Leaning back in their seat, they nodded their head. “The bacta is good I promise, some of my associates may be that shitty, but I’m not. As for the ships, they show wear and tear, needed a replacement here and there. But they’re good enough, maybe not for a major battle, but if you need to make evacuations, go for a pleasure ride, quick and easy things. If you want, I can arrange for a tour, I’ll show you around them myself.” Changing a screen on his datapad, they offered it to Lando. “The contract for the bacta, and of course the best part of the deal, that 10 hour credit.”

   Anyone who was anyone was currently at Canto Bight, and it seemed Vantir was working overtime in making sure they were all happy. The wealth and power of the Corporate Sector Authority were on complete display during this race. They planned on flaunting it, the New Republic was fledgling, the First Order was faltering, and the Corporate Sector Authority was keeping both of them afloat with equipment, ships and weapons. Smiling as he approached a very prominent New Republic member, 

“Senator Organa, I take it everything is to your liking? If there is anything I can do at all, please feel free to ask.”

A faint crease appeared in Hux’s brow at Cessin’s words, but when they winked his jaw actually dropped. The sheer lack of professionalism—!  Hux’s cheeks turned a shade of red that rivaled his hair.  “Of course it is natural! I do not have time—”  for that kind of frivolity. But it would not do for him to tank these negotiations before they had even begun, so instead he continued, “—for salon appointments in my line of work. Regrettably.”  Hux forced a stiff smile.

“If only I could have met with you sooner, but I am sure you understand that caution and discretion are necessary to avoid entanglements with the New Republic.”  That was putting it mildly. When Cessin at last turned to business, Hux tapped his datapad to bring up the projected cost estimate he’d calculated   (within the First Order’s budget, of course)   for an ambitious order of battleships.  “I am more than happy to provide all the specifics you would like, Ambassador, as I designed a few of these blueprints myself. As for tariffs, we are proficient producers of the following ores.”  He swiped to another set of data which included the desired tariff numbers.  “For obvious reasons, the First Order does not sell directly to the New Republic. The CSA stands to profit substantially from positioning itself as a neutral middleman, and I am confident you will quickly recover any losses from reducing tariffs on our materials.”

   “Yes, it would seem that way for quite a few higher ups within the Empire. All those grey hairs running around, it’s as if they wanted the galaxy to think they were old, and out of touch, butI mean with you, finally some youth in the big leagues. I mean Sloane is younger, but for how much longer can she claim the moniker younger, look at the New Republic leadership, so youthful compared to the Empire. I have to ask, since you are the new kid on the block, do you find some of the older, stiffer officers insufferable? And be honest, we’re friends here.” 

Vantir ran their tongue over their bottom lip as Hux spoke, taking the datapad and looking more closely at what Hux was talking about, after a few seconds of silence once the other stopped talking. “You aren’t a businessman, I get that, so you wouldn’t understand the fact you’re using a very dirty business word, tariff. The CSA is made up of of dozens of companies, some are yes, much larger than others, but some of our smaller members would loathe the idea of any sort of tariff. You see, usually once  one tariff comes into play, there is rebuttal and those can lead into full blown trade wars, and right now, no one wants a trade war.” Sighing, “What the CSA can offer is lower prices to the First Order, on the merit that you are not as established as the New Republic, but we would expect something in return obviously.”

Luke felt his eyes droop as his head rested in the palm of his hand as he slowly sipped on the drink he had before him. He had sat in this place for what felt like days, though he supposed it was a few hours at most. He had been told that someone would meet him here with information about the ancient Jedi texts. But he was getting quite tired, and truly wished his contact would arrive soon. 

He felt someone approach him before he heard the stool scratch against the floor. He perked up slightly, looking at the person, before speaking up.

“I suppose traffic must have been bad?”

   The Corporate Sector Authority liked to play every side in an equation, the rising size of the Jedi Order meant that they would soon be a very large player in the galaxy once again, that meant their somewhat appreciation had to be won over, and so Vantir’s superiors arranged for a sit down with Luke Skywalker, they were going to be handing over something from their vaults, several older Jedi Texts, they were gifts from an Imperial Advisor after the fall of the Order, in exchanged for a luxury yacht from Kuat Drive Yards. Smiling as he walked into the meeting the case of two books close at hand. 

“Oh you would have no idea, with the backup in comms traveling has been a nightmare, hopefully due to the efforts of every party involved in repairs, things can begin to move at the pace we were once used to again. I sincerely hope you did not have to wait too long.”

vantir was well aware of how to make a sales pitch, but that would have no effect on padmé’s morals which were still firmly established despite the change in time and scenery that the emperor’s rift had dragged her threw. while she did not know all who served in the new republic’s senate on a truly personal level, to be able to see what their own real priorities were, she held onto the hope that there were more now who were like-minded to herself after the empire’s rule than there had been in her own time. there was still a divide between those who wanted larger and smaller military size, but the attack of the vong made it a clear necessity for now. it would bring people together out of terror. but how an offer like this would shake things up? for now, that was quite difficult to tell.

“you would like to repeat an aspect of the old republic that caused a longer bureaucratic process.” significant slow down and corruption was what padmé wanted to say, but she withheld her own tongue, maybe the words slightly less sharp though still direct. she paused, forcing herself to consider all aspects of this despite her gut telling her to say no without any more consideration. “yes, of course, this outage effects the CSA as much as anyone else,” she murmured. “is this proposition already set in stone on your end? if so, i’m afraid the chances… are unfavorable, but i can imagine a tweak or two that would bring significant comfort to those in the senate about not repeating mistakes of the past.”

   “Oh we would. yes. Though I can’t believe you would frame it in such a way, Senator. The idea that just because it makes the process longer makes it bad is shocking. Are you saying Senator, that the almost trillions of people who live within the Corporate Sector Authority do not deserve to have some sort of voice in your New Republic, especially if you plan on being the major galactic government.” Vantir raised an eyebrow listening to what the Senator had to follow up with, 

“It is but thankfully a good portion of our signatories deal with raw goods, repairs, communications. Our repairs are already well underway. We want to do nothing but help the rest of the galaxy, both the New Republic and the First Order. You know of course we are a neutral party in your dispute, and we simply wish to see that business remain free, and fair. However, I am curious, what would some changes to our request be? I know you say it would be unfavorable, but then again, you are one Senator out of how many? I would hate for this to be another instance where you and Mothma fought so hard for something, just to see it defeated by your colleagues. Such as that clone production bill.....the peace summit with the Separatist.....that little Delegation of 2,000. Just to name a few, of course I admire all your efforts personally, but again, the CSA does not pay me to represent my personal interests.”

Jango hummed and raised a brow “Oh? I suppose I’ll have to do my research then.” he said, relaxing a little more. He’d had dealings with men like Vantir before, it made him wonder what he wanted from him. “So, what does an Ambassador for the Corporate Sector want with me?” he asked curiously.

   Vantir brought their drink up to their lips, a coy smile on their face as their eyes still scanned over the bounty hunter who by all accounts should be long dead, only here now by the graces of the Emperor’s Rift. “What do I want with you? Surely, nothing you’re thinking. I have no interest in having anyone killed, or having anyone kidnapped. I simply want to get to know the man who was considered the best in the business before you know the whole.” Dragging his finger along his neck.

honestly, it was rather rare and refreshing to meet someone who actually managed to match the same kind of blossoming, even overwhelming confidence that lando had carried with him for his entire life. it was the kind of charismatic energy that brought a wide smile to his lips. “well, politicians have set themselves up a certain way,” they said with an easy chuckle. not the hardest group to take advantage of, unfortunately. hopefully that was something that would change with the new republic. he had faith in leia. hopefully the others would follow suit.

“oh? is that so?” it’s not a surprise, that the new republic would get a certain kind of upcharge that an independent vendor like himself wouldn’t. or rather, his own business endeavors, wildly varied, might earn a certain kind of discount with the hope in the future, the favor would be returned. “i’d be happy to get something set up with you. i’ve got plenty of friends over there that i can pass it on to. how much are you thinking?”

   “A certain way is a funny way of saying relying on massive campaign donations, and allowing anyone who pays them the highest price to dictate their actual concerns.” Vantir chuckled a little, leaning back in his seat, “You know when I used to trade my services for money, I was far more expensive then some politicians make themselves. Its good to know I would have been a far more expensive buy to sellout whatever planet I would have represented.” 

Simply bringing their drink to their lips, as Lando mentioned being happy to set something up to help the New Republic. “Right now, what my higher ups wouldn’t miss if I negotiated with you, four months supply of bacta, usually priced at about 56 million credits, for you though, I can get it knocked down to say, 26 million, now I imagine if that’s too much you can find someone to get you the money. Also I have 5 older Arquitens-class light cruisers, newer ones would sell for a total of 20 million credits, but due to their age, I can talk to our Kuat member, and probably get them sold to you for 10 million.” A sly grin on his face, followed by a wink, “And just cause we’re friends, I’ll throw in a 10 hour credit for my personal services.”

defne’s bright grin shifted rather quickly to a pout. ❝ no fair. ❞ running through her rolodex of options, she decided on a dialect she was much stronger with, something more akin to a coruscanti accent. ❝ i am? ❞ she was confused by that, at least until he explained. she took his hand and got up out of the box, placing whatever random item she’d been holding back in the box. 

❝ well, uh, thanks for not killing me, ❞ she noted. she squeezed his hand a little. ❝ so… so i don’t have any credits to repay you, unfortunately, because i’m in a bit of a… scary situation, let’s say. but i am… incredibly useful. and i always settle my debts, so… whatever you need, i’m more than happy to take care of it. ❞ defne was an endless flirt, she couldn’t help it!

   Vantir couldn’t help but cross his arms over his chest as she went on to say that she didn’t have any money to give him because of a scary situation she was in. “Scarier than being on a stranger’s ship, after being caught having smuggled yourself aboard? Now this is a story I need to hear. Follow me.” There was no point in staying down in the cargo hold now that their little castaway had been found, instead Vantir started heading towards the lounge of the yacht as she spoke. 

“Let me see what would your debts even be? Passage on ship of this class is usually a few thousand credits, so I am guessing for our journey you’d owe between 10,000 to 15,000 credits? I’m sure you certainly don’t have the money to pay that off, so we have to find another way to make that go away. The Corporate Sector Authority is rather stingy when it comes to payment you see.”

   Vantir chuckled at the other, oh he knew quite a bit about being paid to walk around places barefoot.

"You aren't wrong and I know right know holovids of feet are going for quite a bit, but you know, pay a man even more and he'll be willing to make love to a pair of Gamorreans. My biggest paycheck came with Jedi Knight Takes on Tattooine Part III, where my scene partner was a Hutt. He was absolutely charming though."

the first words that come out of his mouth were no surprise, though admittedly that did not make them any less irritating. the corporate sector had no real place dealing with the senate – something that she had thought for a long time, but it had been an engrained part of the republic, and a young senator from the mid rim could not make any kind of move against them. truthfully, she’d done more than enough against the separatist parties, there’d been no shortage of those who wanted her dead and she did not need to add to that. especially now, as fractured of a state as things were.

“that’s a substantial mark down rate.” padmé’s facial muscles were controlled with exquisite perfection, not so much as even the slightest arch of a brow threatening to give away the thoughts that were inside of her head. this was something that she had excelled at, cool neutrality one of the many expectations of the monarch of naboo. “which means that the request you have must be something you know will take much deliberation among the senate.” that was a nicer way of saying it would be controversial and likely disliked, at least.

   He grinned, “Oh yes, yes it is.” Senator Amidala was good at this, he would have loved to see her down on the main floors of Canto Bight, she would have had an exquisite poker face. She could probably rob half their patrons blind if she really wanted. Vantir chuckled at the next statement, knowing all too well what she meant. “Oh normally it would yes, quite a bit, however, with these marked down prices, and with my plans to meet with quite a few more of your colleagues, we could really cut that deliberation time down to next to nothing. The ExO, and the Direx Board, think democracy, and cooperation are such vital elements to survival. That is why they would like for the Corporate Sector Authority to be allowed a representative in your Galactic Senate, not a voting member obviously, they would never presume so much power, but rather someone ideally, since I know all the Senators so well, me to just be allowed to give our input on legislation that passes through the senate.” 

Vantir was sure that she was going to hate this idea, but he also knew that right now the New Republic was in a tight position, and that position could be exploited. He also for other senators had a little promise of increased campaign contributions, but Vantir knew such a promise would never work on Senator Amidala. “Obviously, we all want to work together to get these comms up and running, and the CSA would be more than happy to dedicate a good number of our best and brightest at helping with this endeavor.”

so perhaps it wasn’t the brightest way to get around, but it was better than dealing with juggling credits around to pay for passage. smuggling herself onto a ship was easy, theoretically. get in a crate, shut up, hold it, and wait until the trip was over, then wait ‘till it got quiet, then sneak out. she was far too familiar with it by now. 

so that’s exactly what she was doing. curled up in a little ball in a crate full of random junk on a ship she didn’t know, idly waiting for the ship to get on its way. after all – the girl just woke up!! she had no clue where she was or what she was doing, so she resorted to what she knew. was that so wrong?!

but as the lid of the crate was lifted off, she realized she would have to do a lot of talking to get herself out of this one. a smile spread on her face.

   Vantir was sitting at his desk in the office onboard the yacht that the Corporate Sector Authority was so kind to give its ambassadors, clearly they wanted to flaunt to the other galactic governments who really controlled the flow of credits. That was until the Captain of their security team informed them that the ship had a stowaway. and was currently hiding in a crate on board in the storage deck, asking if they should seize the person, and space them, Vantir waved a hand, that would be highly inappropriate, and reflecting on his own humble roots, he could respect someone with the courage to sneak onboard any random ship they could find, so smiling they went down to meet them himself. 

Looking down on the person, as the lid was lifted, a smile was still on their face. “That accent is kriffing horrible. I should know, because I once had the habit of putting on horrible accents myself. Unfortunately though, that is not what I am looking for. You are.” Offering his hand to the other to help her out of the box. “You’re lucky you find yourself on my ship, when I was on board, the Captain of my security wanted to space you.”
