Comparing withering with exorcism is definitely a choice.

I wonder if it's possible to exorcise a spectre from a person and what will happen. The way Eulalie absorbs malevolent spectres is almost like an exorcism but it's clearly not quite the same. Especially considering that in her case it's a temporary measure.

If we use the theory that spectre abuse leads to withering, can we say that the spectres 'leaves' students bodies? Or that they 'used up' it? And maybe that's why their spirit is dying? That would mean that the spectre is an integral part of the soul. The last part definitely makes sense but the rest is just stupid speculations provoked by a line that most likely does not make such a deep meaning.

Damn, RnF really just went “yeah, Lenore has plot armor and can do whatever she wants” we’re not doing any pretense anymore. They don’t give a shit about established stakes

Like. That was a stupid decision from Lenore’s perspective, and she does it anyway. And they can’t give her consequences for it. If she’s wrong, and you can’t just come back from being an orb if only you’re smart enough, then she’ll be dead. And we know the creators can’t and won’t kill her off. So Lenore just has to be right. About. Killing them both. For the long shot hope that they will be able to do something if she does. Without any evidence at all. Lenore can just actually kill herself and nothing will happen to her. It’s so blatant.

And if only Lenore. How should we genuinely worry about the main characters if a bunch of characters less important to the plot were on the verge of death and yet they're all fine now.

Duke? Was dying but he's fine now. Monty? Was dying but he's fine now. Ada? Is in a coma so we have unlimited time to save her. Will? Died but we have a spare. Lenore? Berenice stabbed her but it's okay because it was a hallucination. And just when you think oh no Deans are going to kill Stag for attacking Merry and we don't find out what he wanted it turns out they just. immobilized him. Because the plot ig. Obviously there is some explanation: perhaps they cannot harm the creatures outside the gate or they cannot harm the students which fits into the theory about Wild Hunt-Theo. But general situation looks like even an antagonist doesn't have to be afraid of death because of the PLOT.

The only people I can really fear for are Arthur and his gang. Now they do look like cannon fodder to raise the stakes so that at least someone dies in the survival game.

I'm not saying authors needs to kill their characters. I love these characters, I want them all to have a happy ending! But it would be nice if RnF stopped putting them in deadly situations just to save them with a wave of their magic plot wand and spectra ex machina.

After the fifth time it completely destroys the tension. I can't be genuinely worried about whiteravens when the experience of past chapters suggests they will miraculously survive despite all the drama.

Actually, I think its too early to judge the story. Obviously the main characters have a lot to offer so they won't die ( again ) that easily. But Lenore saving Annabel also helps us the readers learn her abilities. Each save is not random, they all have a purpose. Duke surviving meant that he will trust Lenore in the future because she proved to be by his side. Montresor wasn't actually dying, he was put into difficult situations yes but he wasn't ever on the blink of death. Will obviously has some kind of background we will get into later, so I know right now it doesn't make sense but keep in mind the story is still progressing. Also, Berenice is obviously gonna have some struggles, so having her not being able to trust her self is something that will make a very interesting dynamic between the characters.

No one has "plot armor" they are all dead anyways. But if we really wanted the protagonists gone from the series, the story would look like **a very specific anime that probably is spoilers, but the protagonist dies so keep that**.

Also I think it has been confirmed that someone will die this season. Just not so early on
