hi! this is a suggestion/oc blog for a Vault Hunter OC of mine (well, former vault hunter) and his two adopted daughters.
i wandered away for a year or so in order to focus on other muses on a different blog (@redhandedsuggestions), but i’ve decided to separate out my oc/suggestion blogs based on fandom, so this blog is being revived!
VH’s personality and dialect hasn’t really been super set in stone; old posts from when i started this blog are much different from the posts he makes now. this is partly due to the fact that this blog was supposed to be just the aesthetic of a Vault Hunter originally, not really any specific character. but over time he developed into a vague OC. i’ll be honest, he’s much less developed than most of my OCs and that’s partly laziness and the fact that his muse comes and goes. Borderlands is also mildly triggering for me now due to past abuse, so sometimes i can’t interact with it in any way for weeks or months, so VH gets heavily neglected compared to other OCs of mine.
what is set in stone (regardless of old posts to the contrary, back before any of this was decided) is that he’s 46, his name is [redacted], and he’s a trans man. he arrived on Pandora shortly after the events of BL1 and for the most part stayed uninvolved with people and the events of TPS. he fully intended not to get attached to the planet or its people, because he’s naturally a drifter; stays in a system for a year or two, then leaves for new lands. he just wanted to find a Vault, make some money, and then move on.
but he ended up learning exactly what was in the Vault, and seeing the desperate lives many Pandorans tend to lead, he couldn’t bring it on himself to try to find another Vault and potentially inflict that kind of horror on Pandora or any other planet. he’s still called Vault Hunter by just about everyone, but that’s only because almost nobody knows his name. also, he is just obsessed with threshers. if you mention there might be a thresher where you’re going, he’s there.
about six months or so into his time on Pandora, he and Kelley started communicating, but i’m leaving this purposely vague and based off what interactions float around on this blog, because i don’t want to just insert him into Kelley’s timeline. Kelley isn’t my character, and it’s their mun’s choice whether or not VH actually exists in their timeline or only for the sake of fun blog interaction lmao. since VH pretty much only exists on this blog and i never use him anywhere else though, his interactions with Kelley [and anyone else for that matter, including out-of-fandoms] are considered canon for him.
two years into his time on Pandora, two young women broke into his bunker, tied him up, and about robbed him blind before he got the bindings off and stopped them. somehow that.... resulted in them sticking around??? against his will, mind you. they just. decided they live here now.
Kara is a former Atlas employee; specifically an interrogator for any competitors or enemies they decided to capture instead of flat-out assassinate back in the pre-BL1 days. she was... not well-suited for that life (she joined at 18 because she needed the money, but she could barely stomach any of what she was doing or how the company treated others. she was able to do her job, but was taking stimulants to get herself through her “sessions”), and shortly before Atlas officially got run out of Pandora she went AWOL. she’s 22-25 (not decided yet), and can be a bit brusque or harsh (much more so than Lorelei), but as soon as you’re determined not to be a threat she warms up quickly.
Lorelei is either 17 or 18 (she doesn’t know) and a Pandoran native. she’s also trans. she’s been orphaned since she was 10 and just moving from town to town picking up odd jobs and skills. she focuses mostly on healing, though she’s.... let’s say gentler than Zed and seems to have actually tried to do some reading on the subject whenever she could. being a healer doesn’t mean she won’t absolutely shoot you in the face, and she carries a shotgun wider than she is. she’s less than half VH’s age and yet she’s taller than him. Kara thinks this is hilarious.
Lorelei is the one that found and patched Kara up after her escape, and the two have been sticking together for the last couple years. they really did intend to just rob VH and leave him, but something about this fake-cranky old guy desperately trying to pretend he doesn’t have a heart of gold (and failing to convince literally anyone with a pulse) made them decide to stay with him. Lorelei had the feeling he was lonely. Kara wasn’t letting Lorelei stay alone with a stranger and ended up thinking VH’s awkward and accidental adoption was endearing.
and of course, all of them hate Hyperion.
