Serif typefaces
A serif is a small line or stroke attached to the end of a larger stroke. They’re often referred to as the “feet” shown at the bottom of letters. Not all serifs are the same, you’ll notice slight character variation from one serif typeface to another and that’s what makes them unique. Serif typefaces are more formal and traditional. They’re often used editorially such as in newspapers, magazines, and the body copy of books. One of the most well-known serif typefaces and probably the first font you ever used on a computer is Times New Roman. Here are five visual examples of some of the most well-known serif typefaces.
Sans serif typefaces
The term sans serif comes from the French word sans, meaning “without”, it’s a typeface without serifs. These typefaces are more modern, bold, and tend to make good choices for large headlines. One of the most popular sans serif typefaces is Arial which is a copycat of Helvetica. Here are a few examples of the most popular and well-known san serif typefaces that have stood the test of time.
Decorative or display typefaces
These typefaces are mostly used for titles and headlines. They’re not recommended for large amounts of body copy due to issues with legibility. This is a large bucket for typefaces including subcategories like slab serifs, scripts, blackletter, monospaced, and more. They can also be some of the most fun to use and add flair to your design but use them sparingly.

This visual project contains 4 photographs telling the story of a person who passed through a forest of dangers, feeling afraid(fear), pursuing freedom by running into the light, finding light and the feeling of safety(safe) at the arms of those loved. Feeling safe allows us to live the joys of life and appreciate all around us.
Meaning of Color
Color is an element capable of completely changing the meaning of a design. A movie poster, for example, in order to transmit the horror tone of a film, the use of light tones is not recommended, because the use of these colors could change the tone of the genre of this type of movie. Color psychology has become a common field in color theory that attributes emotional and psychological connotations to colors and emotions. Many of these concepts are common because they influence the brain, but others are cultural. An example of the cultural difference in the meaning of some colors we have the color Black that can represent mourning in some places of the world while in other places the color that represents mourning is White. That is why it is important to be aware not only of the effects of colors on the brain but also what the connotation of color is in certain cultures.
Red attracts the most attention and is associated with strong emotions, such as love, passion, and anger.
It’s the universal color to signify strength, power, courage, and danger. Red is vibrant, stimulating and exciting with a strong link to sexuality and increased appetites.
This is the hue of encouragement, optimism, and self-confidence, marking the extrovert. Orange radiates warmth and happiness, combining the physical energy and stimulation of red with the cheerfulness of yellow. Orange can inspire courage, enthusiasm, rejuvenation, and vitality. It can also have a stimulating effect, particularly on the appetite.
It can also be a sign of pessimism and superficiality.
In business applications, orange gives the impression of affordability, depending on the shade chosen and its combination with other colors. More gentle than red, orange represents more feminine energy and the energy of creation.
Yellow is the color of the mind and the intellect, resonating with the left, logical side of the brain. It is creative, the tone of new ideas and new ways of doing things. Post-it notes and legal pads were invented in yellow for a very good reason!
Being the lightest hue of the spectrum, yellow is uplifting and illuminating, offering hope, happiness, and fun. It’s a warm and happy color that creates a sense of cheerfulness and playfulness, brightening people’s spirits.
However, too much yellow can cause anxiety, nervousness, apprehension, agitation, and confrontation particularly in people who are already stressed. It can also suggest impatience, criticism, and cowardice, and motivate people to become overly critical, judgmental, and deceitful.
Green is of nature, of balance and growth. It is restful and secure, symbolizing harmony, healing, and stability.
It also represents security and self-reliance. Darker greens relate to money, wealth and prestige, while lighter greens relate to rebirth, growth, and freshness.
However, too much green can lead to feelings of envy, greed, jealousy, and selfishness.
Blue is the color of trust, serenity, and peace. It suggests loyalty and integrity as well as conservatism and predictability.
This has the opposite effect on the brain than red. It is calming, reducing tension and fear, slowing the pulse rate and reducing appetite. While inspiring wisdom and higher ideals, it is sincere, reserved, and quiet. Being cool, it creates a sensation of space.
Purple is the color of imagination and spirituality, inspiring high ideals. It can be creative and individual or immature and impractical. It is also an introspective tone, allowing us to connect with our deeper thoughts.
People drawn to purple are usually sensitive and compassionate, understanding and supportive, thinking of others before themselves. They will often have a peaceful and tranquil quality, with quiet dignity about them.
Purple implies wealth, even royalty, as well as quality, fantasy, and creativity. This tone heightens people’s sense of beauty and their reaction to more creative ideas.

The creation process is much more complex than just adding random elements to the artboard. Semiotics is an important study for the development of meaningful projects. Understanding what the signs represent can give value to the project.
Columns are vertical spatial zones or regions that fit fully from the top to the bottom margin.
Modules are the building blocks of any grid. They are the spaces created between the flowlines and vertical lines. Vertical groups of modules together create columns. Horizontal groups create rows.
Margins are the empty spaces between the edges of the format and the content. The size of the margins is what gives the content a general shape, usually a rectangle.
The format is the full area where the final design will be laid out. In print design, the format is the page and in web design the format is the browser window.
Flowlines are horizontal lines that separate the different sections of a grid into parallel bands. They help the reader follow the content of the layout. Flowlines also create stopping points, or edges for the elements to be placed on. Some flowlines are called hang lines and others are called baselines.
The spaces between rows and columns are called gutters. These should always be equal between columns or rows, in order to maintain a visual balance.
Groups of adjacent modules in vertical and horizontal areas create spatial zones or regions. A vertical region can hold a block of text, a horizontal region can hold a video. Regions can be organized proportionally or used to create overlapping zones.
Markers are areas inside the running header or footer that mark the exact place where repeating information is placed from page to page.

The assignment's proposal was to produce a poster using only typography and texture. As a background, I have chosen to include a texture that represents a starry sky, the use of this texture maintains the sobriety and elegance of the graphic design. The chromatic representation of the jazz music genre was made with the creation of a high contrast graphic composition in black and white which made it possible to have a great legibility and readability of the poster. As a variation of the poster, more vivid colours were chosen to represent the flexibility of the musical rhythm.
Typography created with leds. The proposal was to create an alphabet and using only the letters to create an image and a phrase.

Typography is experiencing a renaissance if these 50 examples are anything to go by...
A serif font to represent seriousness, a comics one to convey a relax tone or a sans-serif to illustrate a more contemporary mood. All this is possible just by changing the typeface. Sometimes this process of selecting the right typeface may seem simple, but it needs enough knowledge to bring an image to life.
In experimental design, text will not always have its formal function, sometimes legibility ends up being relative, but the choice of a font used for the composition of a graphic piece is vital to establish a good relationship between the text and the elements that have been chosen to create a graphic piece with a good quality. In this case, typography can be texture or even pattern of the elements. Knowing the rules that are linked to typography it is important, because only then, you will be able to break the rules and create unique designs.
In 1957 Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffman changed the way we design with the creation of a modern typeface: Helvetica. The designs that used to have many shapes, colours and more dynamic typographies started to have more seriousness, with straight lines, sober colours and the graphic pieces started to be more pratical.
In the 90s with the arrival of computer graphics what is this? it facilitated access for graphic designers and laypeople, but without the right knowledge the results are poorly designed texts and deficient typographic fonts. Typography is one of the main pillars in order to create a great graphic piece.
You know why you are able to read this article right now apart from the availability of your eyes, internet, device, etc.? What is the…
Contrast is a difference between two or more elements in a composition. When the elements have a contrast between them it makes easy to reading and understanding.
Lets play with shapes.
Colors, shapes, patterns, contrast are all part of the design principles. And the best and most fun way to learn is by doing, experimenting, discovering.
Talking about design and not talking about typography is impossible. The history of design mixes with the history of typography so it is extremely important to know typography to create relevant graphic pieces.
This video presented by Ina Saltz shows a little about the anatomy and terms of typography.

To create a good graphic composition you need to learn some principles one of them is the contrast. Contrast has some functions like grab attention to design or organizing ideas in a layout. Shape, Color, Scale, Size are some types of contrast
