People love natives in such a superficial way. People wanna stand with natives when we’re talking about the trees, and the land. People wanna stand with natives when we talk about philosophies of love and togetherness. But as soon as it’s time to talk about political side of being native. About dismantling a system built on the genocide of our people. About how we need a new system that isn’t built upon capital gain and benefitting white bodies. About putting up a fight. About how the colonial state we reside in is a disgusting imperial plague on this land. Suddenly y’all don’t wanna talk native.

While I appreciate white people being vocal about antiblackness, decolonization, appropriation etc, I think it's also important to remind you all that you should never take any white person, no matter how good and kindhearted and knowledgeable they might seem, you should never take them to be the leading voice in decolonization, antiblackness nor spokespersons for Black and Indigenous peoples.
If you have questions about Indigenous people's relationship to the Land, about our traditions, about appropriation, how to approach Indigenous peoples respectfully or how to avoid hurting closed practices, ask people from those closed practices and cultures. We're right here!!! You asking the white person like we don't exist, or worse, only taking your answers from other white people, is not as woke as you think it is. It's the opposite of the work you should be doing.
Oh, and no matter how "educated" someone seems, it's still nowhere near accurate from our perspective. White people don't speak for us and they cannot lead these movements, they shouldn't and cannot represent us because these movements exist to de-center and de-platform whiteness. Not to mention, they're still outsiders and they still get things wrong. They're learning and looking in through a window as much as any other white person is. And you're taking all your guidance from them without knowing that, without having any way to tell when they're wrong or misguided, because you're also an outsider. It's literally the blind leading the blind.
Do better. Ask the source directly. Center Black and Indigenous voices.
it's actually crazy like kind of unbelievable how much racism ppl just expect you to put up with to be polite. like i have so many little experiences where a friend-of-a-friend said something awful and racist to me and i am very clearly hurt and upset and then the friend just expects me to be polite and not say anything not react not even be angry. like when ur not white ur never allowed to be angry. if ur angry ur being too aggressive. you never get to expect an apology, either. expecting an apology for the racist way people hurt you is always asking too much. you never get an apology. you never get to be angry. you never get to say it hurt you. you're just supposed to pretend you didn't hear it, didn't read it, didn't notice. you let things go because it's the only way to have friends.
For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.

Additional information: State lawmakers have been gunning for Pearson and Jones nearly their entire terms. Most notably, in 2023, the House expelled them for participating in a protest at the Capitol. Their districts had to have special elections to have them reinstated.
Pearson is one of the plaintiffs of a lawsuit seeking an injunction against the redistricting.
The city most affected by the redistricting is Memphis, where locals are fighting against xAI's data center, which has been operating with very little oversight and is poisoning the people who live there. Here is a previous post on that with more information and more sources.

That trans woman doesn't go outside? She's chronically online? Hmm I wonder if there's a reason she doesn't feel safe or comfortable in the outside world... Nah, she's just a loser and we should all make fun of her.
My mixed navajo/mexican trans gf was banned/removed from local and liberal online groups and discords as well over the fact that she doesn't let racism happen without saying anything.
On top of that, she doesnt think cops, an oppressive group that targets trans women of color more than any other demographic, belong at pride which is how she was removed from other groups.
We live in a small, rural area and word travels fast. The leaders of these groups organize most of the events here. Effectively, she has no queer community online or offline anymore. Because she stood for herself and centered her own experiences where nobody else did.
She was labeled an attention seeking drama magnet.
An under current of transmisogyny running through all this is unmistakable as she wasn't the first to do any of this, of course. But she was the first trans woman so she was berated, spoken down to, and man-splained to in a group setting with others joining in before ultimately being removed.
