I've finished this kintsugi project at long last! I grew up with these bean pots, so they have some sentimental value to me. When some of them broke in shipping, I wanted to repair them in a way that would enhance them. I learned how to perform the old art form of true #kintsugi from the wonderful David Pike via correspondence. The process involves sealing the pieces back together with a lacquer–flour solution, then carefully painting the seams with a refined lacquer, and dusting this as it dries, with precious metal. In this case: Silver. The whole point of this process is embracing the event which shattered these pieces as part of their history. That when something has been broken, through painstaking work and care, it can be made whole again—and in a way that is more beautiful than before. (at San Francisco, California)
