Race school has started with 5 time SCCA National Champ Mark Smith. He took 1st in class and 9th overall fastest time at round 1 of Pikes Peak International Raceway Time Attack series. I was bumped down to 7th after holding 5th for a solid 2 heats. 1.8 seconds behind Mark isn't bad though!

Pikes Peak International Raceway Time Attack Series Practice Round 2 was bangin'! We placed 5th kn class and 29th overall just behind some cars that cost 40k more than the #Hyundai. Loved it!! New parts all worked great. More surprises tomorrow!!

So, it's been a while...

I haven't updated in forever, I got so busy. Life got absolutely nutty. I SPENT AN ENTIRE SEASON RACING THE VEETEE GUYS!! More updates soon.

Everything Has Changed

I don’t even know where to start. Honestly, I had no idea what it meant to race. Sure, you can go stop light to stop light with your buddy, take it down to the drag strip and keep it legal, but there is nothing like a road track at wide open throttle, or slamming on your brakes before a corner. Now there is real purpose.

My VT and I had little to no rhyme or reason, hardly any direction when I started. It just seemed like I was compiling a parts list and checking them off as I saved up for parts and installed them. I won’t say I didn’t learn from that, I gained confidence in my ability to work on and understand my car and how each part I installed complimented or reacted negatively with other components of the car. I was very fortunate to have people around me who guided me through the process of “modding” or “tuning” and for that I am thankful. Having the right parts, and having them installed correctly are crucial to getting the most out of your money, and the part’s benefits to the engine.

After my first track day I feel like the car is plenty powerful, the power band needs some smoothing and there are some tune related issues that could be sorted, not to mention heat soaking on the OEM side mount intercooler, but overall I am thrilled by the performance of the car.

All of my concerns fall to tires, braking, suspension and my driving ability. I need to start working on the under bracing, four point and rear torsion or sway bar. Whiteline makes a complete sway bar kit, adjustable and some upgraded endlinks that I’m looking at, can’t decide on tires I might just run through all the brands I like and find my favorite. I spoke, a lot of brake companies and for a car like mine a set of slotted rotors, good pads, and some high boiling point fluid and I should be set for next season.

She's a bit bruised and battered

So, man... it's just one thing after another with this car. First the damage to the fenders, then the neighbor slamming into it, followed by a hail storm that left us with a combined amount of about 3k on both cars and then a few nights ago I pulverized a raccoon cracking my bumper and shredding the fender wheel well liner plastic. Luckily the engine is doing great, I can feel the performance boost from the new parts. The BOV and the downpipe are throwing CELS every now and then, but it's not a big deal. I'm ready for a tune... body shop appointments have been made and we'll get her back into shape.

Light at the End of the Tunnel

Her insurance paid out, what a relief. As it stands I have ordered a set of carbon fiber fenders from Socal Garage Works and I’m expecting them in about a month or so. I’ll leave them unpainted to save some money, plus it’ll look cooler!!

I maxed out the negative camber on the BC Coilovers to clear the damaged fender and I’ll be returning the garbage rental car, for now I’ll be driving it as is.

Still need to install Progress Rear Sway Bar and Cold Pipe BOV set up.

Back From Honeymoon

Today would have been a perfect day for a beautiful drive through the mountains, but sometime Sunday morning my neighbor was backing out of her driveway and slammed into the drive error side quarter panel of my car. The impact crunched in the bumper and now the car has to be in the shop again. So here I sit on a perfect joy ride day. Any way, honeymoon was dope, loved.every minute. Came back to shit. In a bad mood.

Clutch Switch Mod (Free!!)

Nothing better in the tuning world than free mods, except free cars maybe? If you’re driving your Veloster Turbo 6 speed and you’re all “why does my clutch feel so electronic?” Well my friend, I have an answer for you. If you can fit into your foot well (no fattys, find a skinny friend) look up where the hinge (?) for your clutch is and press the clutch in. You’ll see a small switch, plastic, black or white that extends down toward the clutch arm. Follow that and you’ll see the bolt that attaches it to the clutch pedal, remove that and enjoy the new shifting experience. Things you’ll notice; no rev hang, easier to shift through gear box, more mechanical and crisper shifting.

It's been a minute

So, wedding is in two weeks. Bear with me.

I’m other news, rear sway bar ordered from Progress Suspension, and still waiting on the Downpipe from Tork Motorsports. They are having flange problems. I guess they don’t just have those sitting around. Unacceptable. In other other, news; new , bigger throttle body purchased.

Downpipe and some IC Piping

I finally chose and ordered my downpipe through revered Veloster Turbo tuner Tork Motorsports. They claim no CELs on their catless off road pipe, and 20 whp/wtq gains, we’ll see if that shit is true. I have no reason not to believe them, but you gotta sell your product right?

In other news, last week I paid for the hot pipe from Xenon Element which will be another bump of about 12-16 whp, so we’ll be sitting pretty come new intercooler unit and tune.

Catch cans from Saikou Michi haven’t even been fabbed yet, but all the lighting components from Korea will be ready to go by the time I’ve grown the balls to tear up the headlights.

So many projects you guise!!!

Cold Pipe

Today's install is the new cold pipe upgrade (hot pipe in the works, IC to come later) from Xenon Element. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I also received the new KDM LED turn signals straight from Korea today! That project is for another time though.

Pierce Motorsports VTOne Strut Bar

Chromoly, rigid af. Better steering response, controlled front end, less hop on “sectioned” concrete highway. Really stiff coming into the corner.

Excited to get the VT through some real corners, but I'm really looking forward to some rear bracing, torsion bar or sway bar. A four point brace would be nice as well!

Dyno Day!

So had the cars first Dyno visit (of many more to come) and the numbers were surprising. I was hoping to be in the 200s but 191hp@6000 rpm isn’t bad, surprising that they didn’t max the rpms, but whatever. 241 lb-ft however was not expected, the little guy can move!
