He’s having a pedicure
My father has had barn cats for my entire life and I was always told that we had to have barn cats because they kept down the rats and mice. But the most recent one died and unusually, no stray cats have been dumped at our house to become the next ones. So my father starts talking about getting another one but has no idea how to acquire a cat because they’ve always just showed up. And it turns into months and one day during our weekly call, he starts complaining about how desperately he needs a cat because the mice have chewed a hole into one of his food storage bins and he keeps seeing them run around taunting him.
And then, the next week, he’s even angrier. Because now, the mice are gone, but there is a pair of barn owls nesting in his barn and feeding the mice to their babies! And I start oohing and awing but he starts complaining even more because apparently, barn owls are bad omens and he needs to evict them before they bring back luck to the farm. But still, now the mice are no longer a problem.
And this just really points out that we don’t need invasive species. That feral cats are scaring away the native wildlife and taking the needed prey for those species. We had cats for 26 years, but within months of them being gone, barn owls returned to the area and started raising young and it took the niche that we had filled with cats all these years.
I noticed that I didn't post this one here! So here it is (◉Θ◉)
