The Last Memer

Chapter 1

The year is 2041. All images in existence belong to Google Prime. Meme distribution is illegal and punishable by death. I roam the wastelands projecting wojaks into the sky to let people know that freedom still lives. I am the last memer and this is my story...

How did it happen, you ask, this cursed present? Like most things, it happened gradually. After the destruction of Russia by nuclear warhead (ukrainian spies sabotaged all the russian nuclear warheads so no russian retaliation), the European Union began to expand its influence year by year, and in 2039, became the de facto authority in all of Europe... Some took a stand... And some died... And many were apathetic about it. In 2039, the first official thing they did was implement heavy censorship. With the help of Google Prime (Google plus every social media in existence), they made meme sharing illegal. Like the China firewall, they made the european firewall... Not even the most advanced VPN could pierce through it. Our PCs and phones get weekly inspections, one lousy meme and that person is fucked. I know: lamest cyberpunk dystopia. No cybernetic enhancements but orwellian government.

Before this 1984 knock-off happened, I was british... Famine, pestilence and crime run rampant in the UK now after years of forced migration. We manage to get by with foreign aid.

Oh, what am I doing? I'm boring you with this historic prologue, you want to know about my days of memery! Well, getting the memes wasn't easy... I had to go the USA to get them. And a huge-ass state-of-the-art projector. With a covert airplane, flying below the radar. I put all of the memes in a hard drive of 250 petabytes. Memes for a lifetime.

I project the memes into the sky and buildings and see a smile or two. Even a few laughs with a spicy wojak. Makes my day. Not even almost getting arrested changes that. The bloody coppers almost got me yesterday but I was faster. Well, my car was faster... A modified Gran Torino. Now I'm writing this in the hope someone in the future knows about my act of rebellion. And I hope mine inspires others. Who knows, after maybe 10 years, I won't be the last memer...
