I read through Anduin’s wowpedia page because I knew nothing of him and honestly it’s crazy what he’s gone through in his eighteen years of life.
His mom died when he was a little baby because she was in the head with the smallest rock during a riot.
His father was kidnapped by a dragon disguised as a human. Due to his father’s sudden disappearance, Anduin was named king at the tender age of ten.
When his father returned, he was literally a fraction of his formal self because his soul was literally split into two and he became two seperate entities (His father somehow managed to become a gladiator because he got amnesia?). Anduin thought his father was an imposter before he was accidentally flung off a cliff and his father managed to save him before he died.
He got nightmares that “begin consuming the victim’s thoughts and filling their head with the voices of other corrupted beings, even the nearby flora.” The only way to make it stop is to die. He’s twelve at this point.
While visiting the Dwarven capital, he watched the Dwarven king become petrified in an attempt to save the city from the earthquakes that are caused by a dragon forcing his way to the surface of the planet from the damn core. His friend also died then.
He stopped the assassination attempt of a person who has threatened to kill him. His father gave the go ahead on the attempt. He literally risked his god damn life to save someone who threatened to take his. He’s still twelve.
He was nearly assassinated by a different group of people while he and his father is at the grave of his mother. Despite his father being one of the greatest warriors and Anduin’s recent studies in priesthood and using the Light to protect him, his father nearly dies. Anduin prays the death away over his father’s almost corpse. He’s maybe thirteen at this point?
Watched his adopted aunt become filled with so much hatred that she basically became a different person. She attacked and insulted him for using diplomatic methods instead of stooping to their enemies level.
He’s fourteen/fifteen when he’s shipwrecked on an uncharted land mass, most if not all of the soldiers with him dead when he crawls out of the ship’s hold. He’s rescued from a horde of pissed monkeys by a kind panda man and his daughter. When his father’s secret agents come get him and bring him back home (which he doesn’t want to do), he casts Mind Control on them so he can stay. Five minutes after that he’s kidnapped.
He gets crushed by rubble due to the Horde Warchief Garrosh for no fucking reason. You, as the player, have to deliver his broken body to his father. One of the most powerful priests tells him that he’s going to have pain for the rest of his life, and that it’ll most likely increase with age. He’s still fourteen/fifteen.
Anduin is still polite to Garrosh during his trial for war crimes. Garrosh, meanwhile, taunts and attacks Anduin. He tells Anduin, this fifteen year old, that when he is king, his kingdom will be raized and that everyone in his kingdom will have wished that his mother miscarried. Despite this, Anduin saved him, as his last meal was poisoned.
Like a day later he meets himself from an alternate universe and watches him die.
A while after that and there’s a short reprieve, the Burning Legion (an army of infinite demons) invades the planet again, and his father dies in battle. Anduin is king again.
like no wonder he always looks so sad.
