Samson & Sally (1984)
YOU GUYS. YOU GUYS, PLEASE TELL ME YOU WATCHED THIS MOVIE AS KIDS. LIKE. THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE, BUT IT’S KIND OF DEPRESSING AND A LITTLE BIT TRIPPY, I DUNNO IT WAS MADE BY THE DANISH AND I GUESS THEY LIKE TO FUCK KIDS UP, METTE THIS IS THE ANIMATION REPPIN’ YOUR COUNTRY, AND IT’S PRETTY GREAT BUT I MEAN SO IT’S JUST AS GOOD NOW. BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TELL ME YOU’VE SEEN THIS MOVIE.
Oh, I remember seeing that movie when I was quite young and it gave me nightmares for ages. It was on TV and my grandparents recorded it on VHS so I could have some cute cartoons to watch when I visited their place. I sort of liked the funny seagull and the walruses’ song, but the general atmosphere really spooked me out and there are a couple of scenes that I just couldn’t bear to watch. I either covered my eyes or ran to another room until I could hear that the worst of it was over. This definitely brings back some old memories, but I’m not sure how to qualify them.
A few random thoughts.
Why is George’s aim so bad with the Sizerator Ray? Also Why was it so much easier to disable Harold’s Hahagufawchucklealumus than George’s? What’s your thoughts? Also feel free to add your own questions/thoughts.
I have no clue why George’s aim would be worse than Harold’s, other than the wild guess that it might just be a random little character trait. As the artist, Harold’s the one who’s used to being precise with his hands and he also got the hang of operating the crane real quickly, while George’s strenghts seem to lie more on the intellectual side.
As for why Harold’s sense of humor was easier to kill, I like princeasimdiya12′s theory that he had gone through more difficult times in his life. Another reason I suspect is that, although the boys have similar personalities in the movie, the books make it more obvious that George is by far the bolder and more optimistic one of the two, and the one who comes up with the vast majority of their crazy ideas. Harold definitely shares the same funny, creative and rebellious streak, but he mostly follows George’s lead and adds his own touch (sometimes even having to be persuaded, like when George wanted to hypnotize Mrs. Ribble in book 6 and he argued that it would likely get them in trouble again). Interestingly, Pilkey described Harold as the shy and quiet side of his own personality.
He also gives in to panic and discouragement much more quickly, as demonstrated by the very dramatic scenarios he thinks up following the class change threat, for instance (both the vision of his and George’s worlds getting very literally split apart and the one with the robot Apocalypse were from his imagination). He reacted strongly to Krupp tearing their comic to shreds and continued moping in the background, while George immediately recovered to smile at the audience and eventually had to console him. And during their visit of Krupp’s house, Harold started worrying that they too might end up alone and sad, and George once more tried to reassure him by brushing it off as impossible. Overall, when considered on his own (without George’s influence), Harold suddenly strikes me as quite a meek, insecure boy, which I think is consistent with the way he appears to have less self-confidence to stand up for himself (against bullies) and to resist negative influences like professor P’s mental manipulation than George has.
Captain Underpants is the living personification of the friendship between George and Harold (part 2- reflections on the film.)
WILL CONTAIN MAJOR SPOILERS for the film so read at your own risk. It explores the events of the film as well as provide a look into both personas of the same person. Go back to part one if you want to know more about this study in the following link:

Thanks for an awesome analysis ! The emphasis on George’s and Harold’s friendship and how genuine it seemed was definitely my favorite aspect of the movie, but I hadn’t really stopped to further reflect on the symbolism of Captain Underpants as the incarnation of their collaboration and on the possible implications of his alter ego’s contrasting personality. I’m finding the exploration of these ideas quite fascinating !

Some names such as Joy, Hope, and Mercy are still used today but others such as Silence, Discipline, and ‘If Christ had not died for thee, thou hadst been damned’ were real. Here is a list of more Puritan names

As hilariously ridiculous as some of those names could get, you gotta admit that “Damned Barebones” sounds like a rather awesome pirate name though.
Sorry, I rarely post anything these days, but I had to share this with the other Lego Batman Movie fans out there ! These are from an adorable birthday card that my awesome sister made for me, because she knows how much I loved the movie and especially these two.
I left the text out, but basically, it said, “Age doesn’t matter when you got something special ! Growing older is never fun, but it’s more about who you grow older with, and there’s something really great about knowing that some things will never change.” I mean, how sweet a gift is that ? ^_^

A lot of etiquette rules may need to be updated, but this will always be true.
Is it just me or does the prince from the new Beauty and the Beast movie look like a perfect human incarnation of this character ? 'Cause now I really want a full-length movie adaptation for the other prince too. T_T
(In case anyone is wondering, the puppet dude is from a musical short film of The Happy Prince from the 90′s, which you can watch here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x4DlJDUUdE )
“ It’s armor. On a woman. It doesn’t have to look feminine.”
If I ever don’t reblog this, it’s because I’m dead.
game devs take note
What a weird impulse. Why would you need it to look feminine? Or masculine? It’s armor to protect your body from death. Not dying should be gender neutral.
Not dying should be gender neutral
THIS. Thank you. I’m so done with all the ridiculously feminine “armor” designs that serve no purpose other than purely aesthetic. There are times and places to care about looking sexy and I can’t help thinking that a battlefield should normally inspire other priorities, such as maybe optimizing the efficiency of a suit for actual protection ? I’m pretty sure there are plenty of (real) women who value their life just a liiiitle bit more than their look...
I’m feeling depressed tonight. I don’t feel like i’m an adult. I feel like I am milestones behind my friends. They all have jobs. Or they have graduated from college. They want to do things like go shopping and drink alcohol. I just want to stay home in my pajamas, watching disney movies and drinking chocolate milk.
Most of the time it does not bother me but it sucks when you have the feeling that you don’t fit in.
Are we clones or something ? Because I feel the exact same way. Especially this last couple of years, everybody I know in my age group has started having kids and making promising careers in something they’re good at, and all of a sudden, I realize I’m still pretty much at the same point in life that I was a decade ago.
It’s so weird. It feels like being stuck in an invisible temporal stasis bubble. Years pass and people around me change, their appearance and personalities transform so much that I can hardly recognize those I haven’t been seeing regularly after high school; their priorities reorganize and their lives take completely different paths as they make new plans and take permanent steps toward clearly defined future goals. The way they talk and the things they prioritize makes it obvious that they have reached adulthood and are building their own lives.
Meanwhile, I have a hard time replying to anyone who asks me what I’ve been up to, because my life has barely moved ever since I (apparently) became an adult and I still haven’t the faintest idea where I’m headed. Although my cognitive abilities have allowed me to acquire at least some knowledge and “maturity” over the years (mostly in the form of theoretical concepts), I feel like emotionally, I stopped evolving somewhere around 15 years old (half of the age I am now), or even younger in some aspects. I still wear the same tomboyish superhero t-shirts, hoodies and snickers I was comfortable in as a teenager, because women’s clothes make me feel like I’m cosplaying some character that isn’t me. I don’t even know how to refer to myself anymore, because I can’t identify with what society tells me a grown woman is supposed to be like. For pudding’s sake, I have glow-in-the-dark stars on my bedroom ceiling, posters of fantasy movies on my walls and plastic spiders hanging around ! I find shopping for clothes unbearably boring, but when I go near the kids’ section, I can’t refrain from walking through the aisles just to look at all the toys (hoping that people will assume I’m just searching for a gift for my nonexistent little nephew). I rarely feel like going out too, perfectly okay with spending days alone at home in between jobs (which I can never seem to keep for long), reading on the Internet and playing video games while eating Chipits. I haven’t even developed any interest whatsoever in forming any kind of romantic relationship and, although I often feel closer to children than to adults, I don’t think I’ll ever feel mentally ready to have any of my own. I don’t feel ready for any major change, even if I wanted any (except maybe adopting yet another cat), but the truth is I have no motivation to change a routine with which I’m quite happy. When I think about it, it really feels like I’m still a kid on the inside and I’ll never fully understand the grown-ups’ world.
Sorry for turning this into a novel, I guess I just wanted you to know you were not alone like this. I don’t know anybody in person who feels the same way that I do, so reading your post was unusually relatable. It would seem that being aware of how differently we develop from typical individuals is bound to make us feel odd, but if it can bring any comfort, next time you watch a Disney movie and drink chocolate milk (a delightful combination !), you can pretty much be sure that I’m somewhere watching one as well or doing something equally juvenile in terms of productivity standards, but mercifully relaxing and an intellectual change of scenery for my perspective.
Tried to limit my steam purchases so I’d have money to donate to SGDQ. Still went ahead and bought the Stanley Parable and loving it so far. Had to do a quick drawing of this area.
What a pleasant picture ! Playing “The Stanley Parable” was mostly a lot of fun, but for some reason, that part made me feel strangely emotional. I can’t quite explain it, but this picture captures the serenity of the scene very nicely.
what. what the f. uck. WH AT THE FUCK WHAT THE WHAT WHAT FUCKING WHAT
Don’t worry, “Maya the Bee” has absolutely nothing to do with “Bee Movie”. This movie version released in 2014 uses the same animation as in the 2012 CGI reboot series of the anime from 1975 of the same name, which was itself based on a German book written in 1912. (In other words, it may look like some cheap rip-off at first sight, but in its defense, this bee’s actually been around for much longer than the ton of other bugs movies we’ve seen these last couple of years.)
The characters have changed a bit with the different adaptations and new ones have been added ; the general mood of this particular incarnation is much more light-hearted than it was in the previous versions, and a lot of positive values very present in most modern TV shows for kids (like the importance of friendship, acceptance of individual differences, following one’s heart and finding one’s place, etc.) are also emphasized here.
As a result, this movie will mostly appeal to a very young audience, but although we’re far from Pixar’s quality in terms of humor, complexity and depth, I must say that I found it quite charming all the same, and the main character rather endearing. I’ve read a lot of negative comments from nostalgic fans of the old series, who complained that this new version had ruined everything they liked about the original, but I don’t share that opinion. While there are indeed some aspects that I agree were somewhat better in the anime (such as the slower pace and the presence of some slightly more serious themes), I personally much preferred the way the recent series and film handled some of the recurring characters, notably miss Cassandra (the hive’s school teacher, whom I always found irritatingly stern and who is now a much more understanding authority figure) and Willy, who as Maya’s best friend I feel was given a considerably more interesting personality, a more believable child-like behavior and an overall more proactive role in the newest version.
So my verdict would be that Maya probably won’t keep most adult viewers captivated the way truly great animated movies can, but it’s good material for children, and the general optimism and warm feelings it’s filled with make it hard to stay completely indifferent to the little bee’s cheerful adventures.
is it just me or do a unsettling amount of kid shows always end with the main characters laughing….
... Now that you mention it, I suddenly can’t block out the onslaught of memories of the countless times I’ve observed this before without even noticing the pattern. 0_0
The baseline of who I am is a very happy person. But I’m also sensitive and prone to strong, frequent bouts of anxiety. And so naturally I seem like I’m Eeyore and Piglet rolled up into one.
I believe you’re the first person I speak (or write) to who also identifies with these two in particular. Eeyore and Piglet have always been my favorite Winnie the Pooh characters precisely because I felt I could relate to both equally, much more than with any of the others. I have Piglet’s meekness, sensitive heart and anxious nature, as well as Eeyore’s melancholic spirit and introspective personality.
Can someone please explain to me why most merchandise of Eeyore is blue when the actual character if gray? Like I have seen official Disney merch of him that is blue (in fact, all official Disney merch I’ve seen of him is) but how come? Is the colour blue just more attractive? Is it for selling purposes? I see a lot of fanart being blue as well but I suppose that’s just a case of personal preference.
I’ve wondered about that too. I’m a bit obsessed with details and even as a kid, it always bothered me a lot whenever I noticed that the merchandise didn't look exactly the same as in the movies (like the colors of the Disney princesses' dresses, which still make me cringe every time I see them).
As for Eeyore, my guess would be, as you suggested, probably a deliberate choice to make the character's appearance more appealing. Winnie the Pooh characters are featured on an awful lot of baby merch and kids' bedroom decoration, which usually favor soft and bright colors, so I assume those who design the toys must think that Eeyore's dull gray isn't a cheerful enough color for children to like. It would make sense, although I must admit that it still annoys me to see him blue and purple with a peach-colored muzzle in most stores, when in the movies he's always been just two tones of gray...
Why Does It Take Me Half An Hour To Write 350 Words, an extremely short story by me
I feel your pain, although it takes me about half a month to come to the same amount : an unfinished tragedy by me, to be published hopefully in half a century.
Eeyore + Pinkie Pie = Pinkeye Pie
I can’t stop laughing.
