Continuation of drawing Moana characters again after nearly 10 years.

Also, I saw a clip of the live action version of 'You're Welcome' and I did think Mini Maui having a chance to be briefly separated from Maui was actually a pretty neat choice, so I wanted to play with that a bit.

every year small towns and indigenous communities across canada are burnt to nothing by horrific wildfires and americans go on the internet to complain about it and blame us bc the smoke has spread to their state. i’m so tired.

go yell at mark carney or your own local politicians about climate change and urge them to do more to stop it. the namaygoosisagagun first nation had their community destroyed today. you can find a link to donate to them here. donate to your local food bank. go to the beach next week when the smoke clears and you don’t have to think about it anymore while the people who’s lives have been destroyed will have to pick up the pieces and try to move forward when we are already in a huge cost of living crisis across the country.

we’re like less than 50 days away from the release of coyote vs. acme and no one has been talking about it nor has there been any marketing for it outside of the trailers released. this sucks.

at this moment fake “support animation!” people are being exposed right now because what i’ve noticed is how people rally so much about and bring attention to the corporate greed-driven injustices being done to movies that people pour their heart and souls into, start petitions to save the movie from being stuck in tax write off purgatory, and then once it’s announced the movie is getting released there’s a brief celebration and then complete silence. even if they see the movie isn’t getting marketed by its distributor they still are too lazy to bring attention to it via word of mouth.

look i think people are allowed to simply not show interest in watching something because obviously not everyone is gonna be interested in looney tunes or whatever media but i really feel like this kind of behavior from people is gonna give companies like warner bros who do these things more “reason” to do so and That’s Really Bad. movies especially like these deserve a chance even if it does end up being bad in the end.

Aww thank you (it’s been years since I was super into Moana but it’s fun to do art for it again.)

From what little I know of Polynesian myth, I doubt Maui would have gotten along with Nalo’s mythological equivalents. Plus Maui and Nalo have opposing views on humanity, so there probably wasn’t any friendship between the two from the beginning regardless of what the relationship is. Unless the next movie reveals something.

Saw a clip from live action!Moana on YouTube. Wasn’t entirely sold on how different the ‘You’re welcome’ song is in live action…

… But I love the added change that not only can Maui apparently get Mini Maui off of his body to become a 2D character à la Roger Rabbit (which I think was considered in the concept art for the original film) for the song, but the moment MM sees that Moana is being tricked into going into the cave that Maui will trap her in, he actually panics and tries to stop her in time. (At least until his owner puts him back onto his body.)

Which I admit is adorable and very in-character for that tattoo. But it makes me wonder if they will include that new ability in Moana 3, because I’d love to see what else could happen if mini Maui was set free.

someone edited the Artemis II mission to “We Know The Way” from the Moana soundtrack and that was kind of my last straw. I broke down sobbing. We humans have gone from using the stars to navigate the seas, to navigating through the stars and returning by landing in the seas. Humanity is so beautiful when we work together like this. We are voyagers. We were always meant to explore the beautiful world we were given.
