my personal journey with sustainability
Hi everyone,
Whilst I was scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled on Unjaded Jade’s (who’s one of my favourite YouTubers) story, and she mentioned five ways to live more sustainably. Seeing this made me realise all the things I could do, so I made my own list of things I do for the environment and things I’d like to improve.
THINGS I DO (AND YOU COULD DO TOO)
- I don’t eat meat or fish and I barely consume any dairy products.
I love yogurt, but since a couple of months I switched to Alpro Soy yogurt. My favourite flavours are vanilla and mild & creamy with lime. Consuming less milk has also helped my skin. Besides this little adjustment, I try to only eat eggs that come from my grandmother. She has three chickens in her backyard that give her over 20 eggs per week! Making scrambled eggs while knowing that my eggs come from a good place makes me so much happier.
- I buy little to none new clothes.
After seeing some videos about the fast fashion industry, I decided to buy fewer clothes. I also watch a lot of thrift hauls and video’s about how you can make new combinations with your old clothes. I don’t thrift very often (mainly books), but I’d love to do that more often in the future. My favourite channel for thrift hauls are bestdressed and disfordazzle (Dutch).
- Cycling & public transport.
The best ways to get somewhere in my country is by bike - because of all the bike lanes) and the bus or train. But if you live in the middle of nowhere in Norway, it’s a lot more difficult.
THINGS I WANT TO CHANGE
- Reusable water bottle.
For some reason I always thought: “You don’t eat any meat, so it doesn’t matter if you use plastic water bottles.” But that’s utter bullshit! This afternoon I ordered this amazing blue water bottle (750 ml) with daisies on it from Chilly’s and I’m already in love.
