"do you know what this portrait really needs? a bunny. make that two bunnies. i know just the place where we can find some."
son haneul is anything but courteous — at least, that’s what sehun has come to believe after a colossal (more than a handful) number of phone calls at three in the morning. granted, oh sehun does not sleep until then for the most part usually, but it’s always the nights he’s nearly enwrapped in sleep’s warm arms that that dreaded ringtone plays. haneul’s goddamn ringtone of the week is the theme song from jaws, and he’s pretty sure that one’s going to stick for quite some time. (he also doesn’t call her son haneul, but it’s always a perk to laugh at how ‘mildly’ frustrated she gets when he says it.)
“first of all, pen,” his voice is croaky and thickly coated in sleepy fatigue, “you don’t even have a single bunny. do you even know what to do with bunnies? i also don’t know what portrait you’re fucking talking about, son haneul, it is nearly four. four.” thumb pressed against his palm, he tiredly holds up all other fingers despite her not being able to see.
their late-night calls are pretty much routine in a non-routinal way. haneul’s voice fills the empty air of his apartment, so he never hangs up. he slips his phone in between his pillow and ear instead. “what’s on the portrait anyway?”

richard ramirez: do you believe in god/satan?
ah, the eternal, the perpetual, the chronic question! he knows his religion should have a branch that’s centered around evangelizing and spreading the word, but he’s never been quite good at bringing a topic like that up (unless the mood calls for it). if the screwtape letters are anything near the truth, he’s sure the devils are working at full steam to keep him from getting close again.
“well, there must be something there.”

ed gein: do you have a good relationship with your mother?
“yes.” despite the cliché of rich parents never being there for their children (which is still very much true in his case, but, fortunately, only up to an extent), sehun’s relationship with his parents has always been — with a lack of a better word — good. good. not particularly delightful by any means, but definitely not on the horrendous i-never-want-to-see-you side. (his father is an entirely different story compared to his mum.)
eric harris: do you lose your temper a lot?
sehun’s never quite had a temper, per se, but the days of his youth were… occasionally on the rebellious side. aren’t everyone’s hormonal years like that? he’s not one for making public outbursts, especially since he knows it will mar the family name and image if anyone were to ever dig up his past and find out. no, no, he has more than enough sane conscience for that.
”…not really.”
(( body's in bad shape, so won't be able to do things quickly this week. internship also started so i apologize for delays. don't hate me )-: ))
Quite frankly, Hanmi wasn’t up for blaring music while a stranger was sleeping on the sidelines. She’s been there for hours and that man hasn’t woken up once. Was he even a student? Or was he just residing there for the whole day. Placed on his chest was what looked like a pricey, high quality camera. She guessed he was a student making money off of freelance photography, but what did she know. After poking his shoulder, he finally woke and his eyes unconsciously met with hers. She could’ve done this hours ago but instead she wasted her whole time practicing the dance without music just for him.
She sighed at the man with his short response. Her canon video camera was set up and the background was perfect after picking up litter and throwing it in the disposable trash can. Hanmi wondered how he ended up sleeping there out of all places. Yes the scene was serene and hardly anyone came to this part of the campus but how did he figure out about it?
“Are you perhaps planning on leaving?” She tilted her head, watching the guy get up.
reluctant and still half-asleep, sehun adjusts the sunglasses that fell back up towards his head while he was snoozing through the afternoon and closes its legs around his fingers. leave? why would he leave? he shifts his weight over to one side, sitting up properly against the bench. ah, the video camera. another one of his kind, perhaps.
“am i in your shot?” if he is indeed within her frame, he doesn’t exactly understand why she couldn’t have just shifted the angle to crop him out? his expression is sure to carry heavy signs of confusion and fatigued annoyance. he glances around and behind him to double-check his surroundings, to see if he’s rashly assuming and is actually in the way of some beautiful-with-a-capital-b moment. everything looks similar at jahayeon.
sehun motions towards her camera with a slight lift of his chin. “i don’t think i’m even in your shot. your camera’s facing slightly away from me.”
Van Gogh, Magritte

van gogh: already answered (x)
magritte: would you rather fall in love once and have it last forever (while wondering if there was something better) or have many relationships (but never settle)?
his answer is simple when looking at the options: is he searching for the ‘perfect’ muse to call his own forever, or does he want a number of different muses to base his projects on? such love doesn’t possess enough importance in his life to go with the first choice. his work, his art, his creations are the priority. does it matter if he can’t ever settle? does it matter if he’ll never find ‘the one’ that the silly romance storylines map out? not really. who’s to say one will ever know that one person is the perfect person? “never settle.”
van gogh.

van gogh: would you rather become famous after death or famous in life but forgotten after death?
a difficult question, a difficult question, indeed. sehun knows how it feels to be (internet) ’famous’ — what, with his staggering amount of followers on instagram and twitter alike — but to wonder how the great artists in earlier centuries dealt with the struggles of creation without recognition! he supposes he could be as strong as they were due to the fortunate safety net that would catch him if he were to fail and fall. if he were in a financially tight situation, being famous during his life would be significantly more powerful and meaningful. he decides.
“i’d rather be famous after death. let my so-called legacy live on.” what a choice, in his opinion. in his given circumstances, better to live on a loved legend than a has-been.
@vouleurs
the reverberation of the shutter goes off once —·twice more, and joohyun knows what had been done. sehun has, once again, managed to capture more photographs of her. she has this sudden impulse to shout at him, to express her fervent aggravation and embarrassment towards those·considerably harmless, yet incredibly annoying ministrations of his. however, the temptation is resisted when she closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. joohyun tells herself to take a step back and calm down, to put herself in his position and assimilate the situation at hand. if she were a photographer, she’d want to wander around and take snapshots of everything around her. this includes people. perhaps she had overreacted, and for that, she feels apologetic for having snapped at him.·
her attention returns him, however, ·and she simply stares at him. no words, no sound, just silence. her thoughts date back to when they were children. sehun would attach photographs along with the letters he had sent her, and each were breathtakingly beautiful. to have been gifted ·with such talent at a young age, one could almost say she’s envious of him. joohyun wished she could’ve explored her interests as a child, though given her past circumstances, that just wasn’t an option to choose from.·“next time,” she eventually speaks up, voice calm and level despite earlier’s·irritation,·“please tell me that you’d like to take photographs beforehand. it’s embarrassing to be caught off guard. what if i don’t look presentable in that photos you’ve taken? you’ll never let me live that down, i know you.”
the warmth layered over her hand leaves once she steps behind him, palms pressed against both his shoulder blades as she pushes him forward whilst walking. they’ve been standing in the middle of the sidewalk for well over two minutes now,·and joohyun didn’t want to stand between pedestrians and their desired destinations. it’d be inconsiderate and rude.·“when we find someplace to rest, i’d like to see what you’ve taken. not just of me, though, but of other things, too.”
more often than not, it’s joohyun’s scowl that gets featured in his unending collection of her pictures. it’s almost like a peculiar tradition, an odd trend in photographs, where the album always starts off with candid shots of her unaware oblivion then spirals off into a series of side-glares and sneers. the occasional stop, eye-close, and deep breath is taken account of (but only occasionally because sehun is sure joohyun will rip his head off one day from the constant disregard of her warnings — he likes to believe they would love each other even if that were to happen).
that silent stare! there it is! oh, how he would kill (love? what was the proper phrase for that again?) to press down on the shutter. he has an abundance of seemingly angry bae joohyun’s in his iphoto arsenal — so large of an army that an entire external hard drive could be dedicated just for that alone — but one more couldn’t hurt. but, alas, he knows that look means business, and he’d like to keep his head on for the time being.
“you say that like you have no idea who i am. i’d never release a bad bae photo into the real world. that’s for my own collection.” and his own collection he certainly had. of course, her face never really came out horribly: eyes half-closed from blinks caught off guard, mouth slightly left ajar from transitioning in between words, form blurred from turning away far too quickly. he holds his other hand up, palm facing her with fingertips stuck together and reaching for the sky, “i’ll promise for now. scout’s honor.” both of them know it’s in vain when sehun’s never been in the boy scouts.
his feet fall into a rhythmic motion as she pushes from the back, voice projecting out in front of him. sehun likes to shoot from the hip, a tip he’s learned from the works of mark cohen to eric kim and the like. his art center teacher encouraged the street photography tidbit to the extent of creating an assignment focused on it (a quick mental side note for oh sehun: purchase more disposable film cameras and re-do the assignment). it’s also one of the easier ways to get quick snapshots of his friend.
“it’s mostly been you today, if i’m perfectly honest.”
why was t*rry richardson famous in the first place like………other than being a disgusting person he just is not a good photographer like I wanna know what’s so revolutionary about turning the flash on

MATISSE

matisse: does observing other people influence your style?
"definitely. certain people exude different... feels? different auras? and those are the people i personally look out for because they end up having characteristics that make me want to shoot in a way that embodies all of them."
the human body expresses itself in a number of varying ways, and if sehun were to try and capture all the possibilities, he would die with massive unaccomplishment. a true pity. different demographics certainly need particular criteria — children, for example, are quick, agile, lively, and the camera has to be just as swift to get a good shot. but the same mindset goes along with other subjects: nature needs time and patience, sometimes it calls for long hours to just get one good picture; while nearly every photograph should have a story, have punctum, have the third effect, fashion editorials and advertisements don't. style is sehun's, yes, in the way his photographs come out, but what good is a picture if you're only chasing after one precise aesthetic?
@vouleurs:
had she known she’d be the center of his camera lens’ attention ( yet again ), she would have refused his proposal almost immediately. joohyun recalled her first actual meeting with sehun, the tall, lanky man with the canon camera in his hands. it was back before she returned to her motherland. she had spent her elementary-school days exchanging letters with a pen pal. during that period, joohyun was ruled by the desire for less of an experience and more of a grade, but in the end, she gained far more than she could have ever asked for: a friend. a lifelong friend. though, this particular friend does get on her nerve from time to time. just like now, where he’d point his camera towards her direction and snap candid shots of her without given consent. annoyance melted into her features, palm of her hand pressed over the lens to keep him from shooting anything other than bleak nothingness.
black is what he’ll see, black is what he’ll get.
“oh sehun.” and she found it pointless to supply anything other than just that, hoping that it’d be enough to shake him off her shoulders and convince him to stop. what she wanted to say, however, was a repetition of earlier’s command. a glance around the area and she notices that people were staring at them, several pairs of curious eyes wandering over their persons. it was embarrassing, cheeks faintly reddened as she reached forward, fingers slowly coiling around his wrist to force his arm down.
but words were left unsaid, and thoughts were kept to herself.
“must you always shove your camera into my face wherever we go?”
he finds it rather interesting how some of his childhood friendships lasted for such a lengthy amount of time. adults and older sibling-like figures in his life would always mention the importance of creating companionship with people who would stay with you until the very end, but he had been in elementary school, for god’s sake. nearly everyone he befriended back in those days seemed like they would last a while, no?
but joohyun had been different. (god, how that sounded like something straight out of a romantic comedy. joohyun would swat at his arm for such a comment if said aloud.) their penpal letters started off as a means to satisfy both of their teachers’ wishes, but i’m sehun, i’m three years younger than you, my teacher says you have to be my penpal, i think that’s stupid became i can’t believe you’re moving onto middle school already, take me with you, i want to be with smarter people and later aren’t you supposed to be graduating high school soon? how’s valley high? boarding school has some weird nunchucks attending.
of course, their letters weren’t always formal: constant shut up, oh sehun, i hope people at school call you say-hoon instead of thomas’s from joohyun and just admit you love me, asshat’s from sehun. regardless of their brash words, their relationship never faltered. never falters. oh sehun lives for making bae joohyun flustered and ticked off.
click. “okay, i’ll stop for real now.” click. “…okay, now i’ll really stop.”
sehun grins. joohyun always gets embarrassed of his mundane actions (he’s just taking a picture, golly, joohyun, calm down!). “bae joohyun.” nevertheless, he drops his camera back down to hip height, strap securely crossed over his chest. his hand presses over the back of her own. “must you always complain about me shoving it in your face?”
DÜRER: Do you take a lot of selfies?

dürer: do you take a lot of selfies?
selfies. ah, selfies. the best excuse the baby boomers can muster up about how the millenials are ruining the american economy. sehun would rather not get too into that at the present time, for he knows the baby boomers are senile. but selfies! the art of selfies, proclaimed as kim kardashian's true talent.
"less than your average guy? i don't know, i don't notice."
does he really take less than the average male? he doesn't exactly know the statistics, and he does have quite a few pictures taken of him through companions. but oh sehun is not an avid selfie-taker. the concept of holding a camera up pointed towards his face has never personally warranted his attention — he'd much rather have the viewfinder at his eye.
"stop pointing your camera at me."
another click goes off as soon as joohyun's lips form a straight line, completing her me. had sehun's main camera been part of the lower-end rebel series, the shutter sound would have left a lingering whining note in the air (hell, even the model that came after his did something similar). but the mark ii is a true classic, he swears by it so don't try to have an argument with me, you know nothing about cameras, bae joohyun.
"finger slipped." another click. "again."
bae joohyun is (both annoyingly and opportunely) as photogenic as her outer beauty. the fact that she so explicitly expresses her distaste for sehun's constant attention through the lens makes it entirely too difficult to pass up a perfect chance of seeing her temporarily flustered.
a knowing raise of an eyebrow and a sly grin is hidden behind the camera. click. "even your disgust comes off well, come on."
"are you done yet?"
a low grumble buzzes against his lips at the disturbance. if there's anything sehun has figured out during the past several months of living in south korea, it's that the benches in seoul national university's jahayeon are secluded and peaceful enough for a nap. true, he still has to carry his camera embraced close to his chest — college students can't be trusted, no matter the location — but the naps are heaven-sent. cue that cherry blossom song.
but what's this? a stranger? a girl? disturbing his beloved nap? asking if he's done? sehun's eyebrows instinctively furrow in toward each other as he attempts to take a quick glance at the perpetrator. the sun is bright, curses. it takes a couple of seconds for his vision to adjust, but that still doesn't stop the unintentional, momentary sneer. be nice to strangers, keep a good image.
"i guess i am now." smooth.
