Prompt: In a last ditch attempt to stop pollution, the higher ups implement a new rule, now people must be careful, because any pollution they make, will come back in the same quantity to be put inside their bodies.

Things to consider:

Who exactly are the higher ups? The government? God?

Where is the protagonist in all of this? Are they an angel? A government official? A suffering citizen? Someone empathetic to the rule?

How does the pollution enter peoples’ bodies? Do we even have to know? It could end up being a mystery.

Where does one draw the line on such a controversial issue like environmental issues?

What sort of state is the world in? What are the temperatures? Are their more environmental disasters?

Is there even a specific bad guy? What if everyone is really trying their best and the real enemy is everyone’s ancestors? What would happen in a world where you can’t blame anyone?

Prompt: A mind reader goes to an insane asylum

Things to consider:

Can they read minds voluntarily? Or involuntarily? How much control do they have?

Are they the doctor? Or the patient?

Consider: the other patients’ minds

Are there handicaps when using their power? If so, what?

To what extent does mind reading effect the mentality of the mind reader? Can they be driven insane by the minds of the other patients?

How did the mind reader even get to the insane asylum?

Emotions

Red,

I saw red.

At first.

But even I knew then,

That the red was hiding something.

A small streak of blue,

In the corner of my eye,

Always.

The red was caked on top of it,

Like an artist trying to cover up their mistakes,

But, it always peeked through, saying,

“You can’t hide me forever”

And so time went on,

And the red began to change,

Red, it was strong, and fast, and temporary.

It turned a strange colour,

I could only describe it as empty.

But still, it covered the blue.

And so I continued,

A facade of emotions,

Like I was a puppet of my own mind.

It was easy, really,

No one noticed,

The blue underneath grew in size.

And then,

I saw you,

It was like a realization,

And this time,

I saw truly saw blue,

Not from the corner,

Not from underneath,

But right in front.

And the blue burst through the dam.

It was suffocating,

It was too much.

My eyes were leaking the sea,

And suddenly I understood,

Ah,

I missed you.

If you’ve read this far, first of all, thank you, you’re the best, and second of all, I just wanted to tell you a bit about what my challenge and source of this poem was, so, if you will let me:

The requirements that were set for this poem was that it had to come from colour. Specifically, l had to choose one experience that meant a lot to me and use colour to describe what l felt at that time. So, I took this experience, and l made it VERY vague, the reason for this being, that, l wanted to make it easier for everyone to relate to it. For some, it could be about loss, for others, about missing someone. It's all up to perspective.
