Kingdom Hearts: Remnant update

I did promise one of these, so...

I was hoping to have the chapter finished already, but it's not, and I'm probably not going to find a whole lot of time to write over the next few days. I'll still try, but chances are high the next update won't be ready in time for Saturday

First time drawing digitally! (finale!)

I really thought the coloring would take me longer, but once I started I just couldn't stop. Highlights are

I used a smudge tool to try and create purple highlights on her pants

The smoke was one big swipe then I then erased peices of and then added a few extra thin wisps for flavor

It's easy to shade stuff by making a whole layer for it. Black brush and 50% opacity tints everything underneath it

You can't do the same thing with white to create lighting. That one required hand-picking a lighter shade to color in with.

I may decide to do a background in the future, but as far as this little series is concerned, I'm finished with my first ever Krita drawing! Next is digitizing existing paper pieces by attaching and tracing photo scans, some of which may or may not appear on this page. If anybody actually was following my short journey here, I hope you enjoyed!

In a new file, I inked in the proper outline. This is where things would end for me with paper, but now I get to play with colors! It will probably be a while before my next update, I think this is going to take some time.

First time drawing digitally! (part 4)

Finally finished all of her clothing. I think it may be time to start coloring... in a separate, copied file of course. I’m going to have to collapse all these layers into a single outline and erase the overlaps, and I just don’t want to lose all this work permanently. Plus it would be nice to have all the individual layers still existing somewhere to reference later, just in case.

First time drawing digitally! (part 3)

Face and hair took far less time than I thought it would, especially since I figured out how to copy to new layer, flip and move the eye, and collapsed the layers. Perfect, symmetrical eyes at last!

Designing clothing using multiple paint layers is a whole new world from character art with pencil and paper. I can fully draw out each piece as its own layer and work on the next piece without erasing the work below, maintaining a perfect frame of reference. Eventually I’ll have to erase, or at least cover up, the lower layers, but I think I’ll be hesitant to do so. I might just make a second file for coloring and collapsing and leave this one as a collection of reference layers.

First time drawing digitally! (part 2)

First think I noticed when I opened the file was that the image flipped... apparently I did half my work yesterday with horizontal flip on! I did decide to select and flip the image so I could continue from how I was working on it previously...

And finished out her other arm! Did a bit of work shifting her shoulder up as well in the process... editing is so much easier electronically. Eraser smudges are a thing of the past and undo means even what is erased is not lost forever!

And finally I used a new layer to trace a fresh outline, including breasts. Next will be sketching features and clothing!

First time drawing digitally! (Part 1)

I'm drawing using a tablet and e-pen for the first time, and decided I'd like to record the project (mostly for my own sake).

I spent several hours experimenting before I began a real project, and so far there are still explorations from time-to-time. I also think my 'copy selection to a new layer' button isn't working... but it's not been a big deal yet. I just hope I figure it out when it's time for the eyes. So far it's just doing the same stuff I do with a pencil on paper, just... digitally. Which is still making things take longer because my ability to erase lines perfectly is triggering my perfectionism.
